Nestled into a hidden ridge in the shadow of the sacred Nanda Devi Range, The Kumaon offers a private mountain retreat situated in the heart of nature. The Kumaon is located in Kasar Devi, a ridge above the historical city of Almora, which has attracted artists, pilgrims, scholars and seekers for centuries — Swami Vivekananda, DH Lawrence, Timothy Leary and Bob Dylan, to name but a few. The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a short 15 minute drive from the property. Jageshwar, an ancient and revered temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, is an hour's drive away. The Katarmal Surya Mandir, one of only three extant temples dedicated to the Sun, is located 30 mins away by car. Guests can walk through hamlets practising traditional agriculture; descend through forests of Oak, Cedar and Rhododendron to these ancient stone temples, or simply relax in the mountain sunshine and clean air, surrounded by birdsong and the fragrant smell of pine.

This may be the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. From the moment I arrived the staff could not do enough to ensure my stay was more than I could ever ask for. The food is delicious, local and healthy and the waiters are always a step ahead with incredible service with a smile. The housekeeping was the best Ive ever experienced, the room was spotlessly clean at all times and they even lit me a fire in the room and turned on my electric blanket in the evenings. I did complimentary yoga on the roof every morning with Nisha. Shes a fantastic teacher and she really set me up for the day, not to mention the beautiful backdrop of the Himalaya and breathing in the fresh clean mountain air. There are many hikes of all levels to go explore and I had naturists accompany me Nandan and Suraj, both a wealth of knowledge on the nature in the area, I absolutely loved these excursions exploring the beauty all around the area. The manager Abhinav and front of house Meenakshi are the dream team, they are available at all times to ensure your stay is everything you dreamed it to be. I felt like part of a family and was genuinely going to miss all the staff on leaving. This is a very special place. The energy of the location brought me into deep meditative states and I feel like my nervous system relaxed and my intuition heightened and I felt really connected to myself, the mountain, Shiva and everyone around me.

The combination of a breathtaking view of snow-capped mountains, impeccable food that satisfies both the palate and the gut, and a team of courteous and attentive staff can truly make a stay memorable. The stunning views of snow-capped mountains from both the room and the restaurant have added an extra layer of magic to your overall experience. Whether it's the tranquil beauty during the day or the awe-inspiring sight of the mountains under the night sky, such views can create lasting memories and contribute to a sense of relaxation and wonder. Acknowledging Abhinav, the General Manager, for ensuring a supremely serene experience reflects an understanding of the importance of effective management in creating a pleasant atmosphere. Such experiences are not only about the physical setting but also the dedication and efforts of the team behind the scenes. Drawbacks of property : After the first person takes a shower you need to wait for half an hour for next person. Also hot water runs just for 5 minutes. In winter we had a bad experience of this. Location drawback : Especially for guests who may find it difficult to manage a 200-meter gradual steep walk, especially those above the age of 55. Some facility should be there. Pricing quite high for external nature walks or river side tea time. The charge 3000/- per couple and you end up going for an hour drive in your own car. For tea only cookies and tea is served.

Loved the minimalist aesthetics throughout the property. The ultimate delight was the gorgeous view of snow capped mountains through the room's gigantic picture window. The food was impeccable - felt as good in the gut as to the tastebuds. The whole team - cleaning crew, servers, and attendants were extremely courteous and attentive. An applause to Abhinav, the General Manager, for ensuring a supremely serene experience.

Can't speak more highly of Abhinav and his team that helped us to experience this very special place. The food, walks, yoga, spa and views made for the most special few days to round out our brief but incredible trip to India. Can highly recommend walking with a guide to learn about Kumaoni life. You might even get to see a leopard like with did thanks to Nandan's keen eyes!

What a place - had shortlisted this a long time back but wasn't able to make and finally I did.. The view was breathtaking + the food was awesome + team - Abhinav + Meenakshi + Nandu (Guide Bhaiya) all were soo good and helpful.. Service was just a call away. Explored near by areas as well with the Guide bhaiya.. You will find details in everything and will be mesmerised overall it was like a dream which we never wanted to get up from... Pet friendly was not just for the sake of it - they took care of Bonzo - his meals were prepared as we asked for and always came in time. Would love to visit again :-)

I had an unforgettable stay at The Kumaon, Kasar Devi with my mom. The property offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan range, with Nanda Devi and Trishul dominating the horizon. The Terrace Chalet we stayed in was a gem, providing us with uninterrupted views of the snow-capped mountains and the lush green valley below. The interiors are simple yet luxurious. The culinary experience was a highlight. The Kumaoni thali served during lunch was a delightful journey through local flavors. The staff's unwavering courtesy and readiness to cater to our needs made us feel truly pampered. The property is a nature lover’s paradise and is perfect for someone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I can't recommend the property enough, and eagerly look forward to returning. Thank you to the wonderful team at The Kumaon for an unforgettable stay! This place deserves all the praise it receives.

Our stay at The Kumaon Hotel was nothing short of exceptional, leaving me with an absolutely wholesome experience that rekindled my connection with nature. From the moment I arrived, I knew I would want to return in another season to relive it all over again. 1. ROOMS: The rooms at The Kumaon Hotel were not only spacious and impeccably clean but also exuded an air of luxury. However, the real highlight was waking up to the breathtaking view of the mighty mountains right outside my window. 2. HOSPITALITY: What truly made this experience stand out was the incredible hospitality, starting with Abhinav, the General Manager. Abhinav accompanied us on our excursions, adding immeasurable value with his extensive knowledge of the area, his friendliness and his patience. As an added bonus, he took the most incredible pictures of our journey with his professional camera. The booking process was also a breeze, thanks to Neeraj from the Kumaon office, who provided us with all the necessary details instantly. What truly set The Kumaon Hotel apart was the exceptional level of service provided by every single staff member. 3. FOOD: The food at this remote location was a pleasant surprise. A huge shoutout to the chef and his team for serving up delectable dishes. I particularly loved the fresh orange salad, the warm and delicious soups, the cottage cheese steak, and the mushroom tart. 4. NATURE: The experiences offered at The Kumaon Hotel were equally exceptional. We had the privilege of witnessing a stunning sunset with a private picnic set up just 10 minutes from the property, which was flawlessly organized. Additionally, our day at Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, guided by the hotel, was an unforgettable adventure. If I had to voice a single complaint, it would be that my stay at The Kumaon Hotel was not long enough. We already miss the warmth, beauty, and tranquility of this place. My heartfelt thanks to Abhinav and the entire team at The Kumaon Hotel for creating a memorable family holiday that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

The Kumaon, nestled serenely amidst the majestic Himalayas, was an absolute revelation. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in an aura of pure serenity, a stark contrast to my bustling city life. The spa experience was nothing short of magical. Surrounded by the untamed beauty of nature, each massage and treatment felt like a sacred ritual, grounding me and reconnecting me with the earth's energy. The therapists were not just skilled but seemed to possess an innate understanding of holistic well-being. But the real adventure came with the hike. Every step felt like a conversation with nature, the mountains revealing ancient stories. The trails, winding through lush forests and opening up to panoramic vistas, offered a perfect blend of challenge and awe-inspiring beauty. It was an adventure that tested my limits and rewarded me with unforgettable views. Yet, The Kumaon offered more than just exceptional amenities. It was an ambiance that transcended the ordinary. Waking up to the sun painting the snow-capped peaks in golden hues and falling asleep under a canopy of stars—these moments felt like they existed outside of time. For those seeking an escape from the chaos of daily life, yearning to rediscover themselves amidst the wonders of nature, The Kumaon in the Himalayas is nothing short of paradise. It's an experience that lingers in your soul, a testament to the power of nature to heal and rejuvenate.
