Nestled into a hidden ridge in the shadow of the sacred Nanda Devi Range, The Kumaon offers a private mountain retreat situated in the heart of nature. The Kumaon is located in Kasar Devi, a ridge above the historical city of Almora, which has attracted artists, pilgrims, scholars and seekers for centuries — Swami Vivekananda, DH Lawrence, Timothy Leary and Bob Dylan, to name but a few. The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a short 15 minute drive from the property. Jageshwar, an ancient and revered temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, is an hour's drive away. The Katarmal Surya Mandir, one of only three extant temples dedicated to the Sun, is located 30 mins away by car. Guests can walk through hamlets practising traditional agriculture; descend through forests of Oak, Cedar and Rhododendron to these ancient stone temples, or simply relax in the mountain sunshine and clean air, surrounded by birdsong and the fragrant smell of pine.

I was looking for a perfect destination to celebrate my marriage anniversary with a comfortable stay, and generally we choose to tick off places off our bucket. This was in our bucket list as well. I’m so glad that we choose The Kumaon, the team was very cooperative and helpful in making the experience worth a while. At first we were hoping it to be a general bucket list covering for us, but thanks to Abhinav we were introduced to the wonderful side of Kumaon as a destination, his hospitality and suggestions helped us experience the time of our life, I’m sure seeing our pictures below would help you witness our experience. One of the hidden gems of this property is the location and experience it can give not only in-terms of comfort but ASTRONOMY SESSION at the property was once in a lifetime experience. Literally speaking, it had my wife overwhelmed in tears (as she loves Astronomy and was wanting to experience this. You can relate if you have seen Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Hrithik’s experience) Last but not the least, their SPA is an absolute “not-to-miss” experience. Their staff is extremely professional and very knowledgeable about the art of massage. The overall aesthetic along with essential oils being used was a cherry on the cake. We Wish The Kumaon can continue to deliver this experience to everyone who is wanting to cut from the chase away from the city chaos and look for an experience that may not be part of daily life but at the same time teach us the importance of minute things in our daily lives.

Wanted a 2-day escape into the hills, and the Kumaon has proven to be the perfect location for it. Breathtaking views, serene, and captivating - anywhere one looks! The view of the Himalayas was unprecedentedly stunning, and we were blessed with clear skies for the duration of our visit. And the clear skies gave us a dazzling view of the stars too. Away from hustle bustle of any kind, the Kumaon promises to be a highly promising retreat for anyone looking for one. — The food was very good, and fortunately, instead of menus, the chef chooses for us - and what choices. I have never felt such lack of guilt despite eating more than I planned - healthy, delicious and quite thoughtfully chosen dishes, and the desserts were absolutely amazing. Great food. — The service has been the high point of the journey. The staff members were polite, and very helpful. Having a local staff does provide a lot of insight of the area, as well as nice anecdotes of the region, people and history. It was great to interact with them, and a special shout-out to Suraj, Naveen, Meenakshi, Gajendra, Rohit, Pushkar and all the lovely team members there. Abhinav was a delight to talk with, and his company was very pleasant whenever we met him. The love for wildlife flows into the conversation, and one sees a passion, and happiness for their work in the staff members, very pleasant to experience. An excellent team awaits anyone planning a trip to the Kumaon. — The rooms were comfortable, warm, and equipped. But the view from every single room, as from the Resteraunt, was captivating. The buildings are made such that there’s ample privacy in the rooms, and not once in our stay we felt the presence of other guests, except at the meals. Commendable architecture, and quite comfortable. All in all, a trip perfect for the getaway, for peace, and for the promise of the hills.

From curated experiences to generous caretaking and support, The Kumaon offers much more than just stunning views. An intimate cliffside picnic, treks to a remote waterfall and a deep insight into the flora and fauna that surround this idyllic destination, this boutique hotel is the perfect place to escape the humdrum (and rising AQI levels) of city life and immerse yourself in a slow-paced world. PS: The best part? Juno and Elsa, the cutest dogs/guides

Incase you are looking for a weekend escape from city life, the Kumaon is the best place to be in. It is a very beautiful and magnificent property surrounded by Himalayas. The rooms are very spacious and a lot of thought is put into designing the smallest of detail. The property promotes slow and sustainable living with the best use of local art, craft and food. The staff made sure that our stay was comfortable with their best service. The food and the dogs at the property are the highlight.

The stay at the Kumaon was a blessing! The venue, the staff, the view and the food were just AMAZING. Don't bother going away from the hotel, it has the best view in Kasar Devi on the Himalayas. You can book hiking tours with the naturalists, they are knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms are clean and warm and beds have heating blankets. There is also a generator so no electricity cut and good wifi. Food is cooked by a Kumaoni chef and his team, so it's foodie and delicious. My only downside is having to leave for Kumaon at the end of the trip.

Be assured to have a beautiful and homely experience at The Kumaon. Abhinav and his team go an extraordinary way to make you feel at home. Special mention to the food prepared by the excellent chefs there, it's finger-licking good. If you take excursions, Nandan and Suraj (in-house naturalists) enrich your outdoor experience with the most wholesome tales about the culture and people of the region. Overall, it's a holiday that will remain etched in your heart and you would want to come back to The Kumaon very soon...
