Travellers' Choice
Nestled into a hidden ridge in the shadow of the sacred Nanda Devi Range, The Kumaon offers a private mountain retreat situated in the heart of nature. The Kumaon is located in Kasar Devi, a ridge above the historical city of Almora, which has attracted artists, pilgrims, scholars and seekers for centuries — Swami Vivekananda, DH Lawrence, Timothy Leary and Bob Dylan, to name but a few. The Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a short 15 minute drive from the property. Jageshwar, an ancient and revered temple complex dedicated to Lord Shiva, is an hour's drive away. The Katarmal Surya Mandir, one of only three extant temples dedicated to the Sun, is located 30 mins away by car. Guests can walk through hamlets practising traditional agriculture; descend through forests of Oak, Cedar and Rhododendron to these ancient stone temples, or simply relax in the mountain sunshine and clean air, surrounded by birdsong and the fragrant smell of pine.

The Kumaon shall be one of my most memorable stays ever. The chalets have a stunning view, the staff here is extremely courteous, and the food is to write home about. Pick a book from their tastefully stocked library, curl up around the fireplace, with endless rounds of tea at call - hog heaven! The Kumaon seems to be in sync with the vibe of Binsar -serene, hospitable and exuding positive vibes. Huge thanks to Pushkar, Neeraj, Anand ji and the whole team

We opted for Upper Chalet. Room and bathroom were quiet spacious and it has all the necessary equipment to keep it warm with good aroma in air. Balcony was equally spacious where you spend hours enjoying the breathtaking View of Nanda Devi Peak. Services are top notch with highly professional staff and a very delicious Kumaoni Food. Full Body Spa was very rejuvenating. We enjoyed our stay. Would definitely visit this place again and will surely recommend it to our friends and family. Thank You..!!

The Kumaon is a hidden gem in the hills. The property is one of a kind, very carefully and beautifully designed on the edge of a hill and gives (weather permitting) unrestricted views of the Himalayan range (including the second highest peak in India - K2) from literally every room. Their service, attention to detail, ability to cater to the guests’ needs and even odd demands, is at par with the most established five star hotel franchises in India. Can’t sing enough praises about their local food and the Kumaoni thali. It was just amazing! The staff is efficiently trained by a hands on GM (Pushkar, whom I can call a friend now). None of them know how to say no to a guest and make just about everything happen for them! I had the most amazing experience during my five day stay there and did not want to leave.
