Nilu and Kanika are two beautifully gracious, educated and friendly people. They could not do enough for us. This lovely colonial home is a real haven of peace and nothing is too much trouble. Just ask, and it happens. Above all, it's spotlessly clean, superbly equipped ( the only place I've stayed in all my visits to India with tea/coffee making facilities in the room) and just a 'home-from-home' in every way. Two friendly dogs roam freely ( one is very wary of humans - but in NO way unfriendly, just keeps out of the way ! ) Breakfast is whatever you want within reason and is eaten with the family, which is a lovely way to learn more about this incredible country, culture and people. All in all, this has to be your first choice in Payagraj. We were so lucky to book this place since our first trip had to be postponed, but we were the only couple staying there. Very convenient to the city centre ( 10-15 mins walk ) but you'd never know it. A real private haven, even our frinds in Allahabad didn't know of it !

I apologize profusely for this late response to your warm and appreciative review of our home-stay! We both were delighted to host you and interact with you, even though it was for a short while, and are glad that you visited India well in time, before the pandemic hit the entire world. We can't thank you enough for your wonderful appreciation of our hospitality and of our cherished family home. It's guests like you who continue to motivate us to maintain our heritage home and share it with guests from all over the world, who have now become our friends like both of you! You gave our dogs so much of time and affection, that I am sure both Josie and Django want you to come back to Bungalow One, as we do! We wish both of you good health and a safe tiding over the scourge of Covid-19, and look forward to hosting you again, whenever you choose to visit our beautiful city! Thank you once again! God bless you both!

Bungalow One is a real homestay, not a five-star hotel. But to those who are looking for a change from hotels I highly recommend Bungalow One. I had a lovely four-night stay. This is a characterful, colonial bungalow from the days of the Raj, set in a quiet, pretty garden in Civil Lines, with two guest rooms. My room was large and very comfortably furnished. The bathroom was satisfactory, with good hot water. Laundry was done very well. Wi-Fi was good. There was a good heater. One eats with the family (mother and daughter during my visit). I had breakfast and dinner each day, and all my meals were excellent, including the best omelettes I have had in three months in India. Mother and daughter are both well-educated, and both had perfect English. They made great efforts to make my stay a success. They were there when I needed them, but not intrusive. They arranged a visit to an obscure old British cemetery for me, and tried very hard to get me into the University campus, which unfortunately proved impossible because of current unrest. Twice they took me for a drive around the interesting colonial sights of Allahabad. There are two dogs, one of which is large and boisterous. Mother and daughter were very careful to keep this dog away from me (I am frightened of dogs), but those who are not at all keen on dogs might think twice before booking. Highly recommended!

Thankyou so much for your kind appreciation of our hospitality and compliments about our cherished home. We enjoy meeting and interacting with our guests and learn so much about the varied and interesting facts about cultures, the world over! It was fascinating to know about your Allahabad connection, but we regret not being able to show you the University, due to the ongoing unrest..we hope to be able to do so, on your next visit!

There are bed and breakfasts and then there's Bungalow One a b&b that redefines b&b expectations. The establishment is run by the most professional, warm and welcoming host Neelu Sethi. Right from our email communication with bookings to receiving us in the house, she left no stone unturned. The property itself is an impressive historical a 100+ year old mansion in the genteel Civil Lines area, with a massive lawn and attached orchard. We stayed in Champa Tree room, a stately spacious room with a dressing area and bathroom. Our room had all the necessary amenities- a large fruit basket, munchies, biscuits, an excellent tea selection and an American drip coffee maker. There were dried nuts. Our bathroom amenities were generous- from Khadi soaps, facewash, rosewater, lotions, sunscreens, wet wipes, face napkins- everything you even wanted was there. We didn't have to ask for a thing. Neelu has excellent service staff who served up the most delicious home cooked meals and were always polite and gracious. Allahabad in June was extremely hot, 45°C EVERYDAY, but the sunsets and evenings in her lawns were always pleasant and memorable. There are two adorable & friendly mutts Django and Josie, to give all residents company and entertainment We came in as guests but left feeling like we were family. If you are looking for a personalized b&b experience and experiencing Allahabad like a local but without forgoing all the creature comforts and luxuries, I will highly recommend BUNGALOW ONE. We shall definitely be coming back here again!!

We highly recommend this excellent venue. We were very fortunate to be able to get a booking in March 2019 for our trip back to Allahabad. We were travelling as a small family group, and greatly enjoyed the comfort, amenities, character, gardens, care, company and gorgeous meals we were treated to at Bungalow one. So central to all in Allahabad. Nilu and her excellent communication in local and English languages helped us enormously. We felt safe & extremely well cared for. Our privacy was respected at all times. Meals were home cooked, authentic and so delicious (we are hoping Nilu will record her recipes in a cook book!). The vegetarian and non-vegetarians in our group were seamlessly catered for. If one has an interest in local history, this is the place to stay! The library is wonderful and so many cosy spots to settle down with a book. Nilu helped us in so many ways - from great travel tips, to catering to any of our needs (e.g. laundry, sharing her hospitality when a family friend wished to visit, to simply her warm, kind and helpful manner. Dear Nilu and hosting team, thank you so much for your part in our trip of a lifetime, we have such wonderful memories. Your garden and home were like an oasis. This is a high quality, and very special venue, that we can recommend without reservation to all. Carolyn Daniels, Christine Weinert and Adrian Weinert.

My boyfriend and I were not so sure to add Allahabad in our Indian route but it was the best decision we took. After a quiet long e-mail conversation, as soon as Nilu and her daughter Kanika opened the gate of the beautiful historical villa where they live, I was able to do nothing but warmly hug them. They are living angels in an heavenly spot in the hardest country I have ever visited: a green and nice garden full of plants, a peaceful porch where we had a cup of tea with biscuits as warm welcome, three adopted and luckily dogs full of energy and lust for play, a totally amazing colonial style room with private dressing room and bathroom, armchairs, writing desk, books and a fruit basket. Sethi family goes beyond borders of hospitality becoming our indian family for two beautiful days in a city out of touristic route: Nilu and Kanika prepared delicious traditional dinner and breakfast for us and we enjoyed every meal together without the fear of getting sick for the very first time in India, chatting about travels, religion, music and different cultures, and we felt at home. I left a part of my heart there, it was really sad to leave but I am totally honored to have met this absolutely wonderful family and I hope we meet again. Knowing people like them has been one of the best part of our travel in India, and I really suggest to everyone to go and visit them in Allahabad.

We have no words to thank you and Daniele, dear Irene, for you compliments about our home and hospitality. It was our pleasure entirely to meet you both and host you. We really did not feel that we were meeting strangers, and hope that some day you shall return to Bungalow One, where you've left a part of your heart, and we shall pick up the threads of our warm association where you left them ! Django especially sends his Bow- Wow to Daniele, from whom he received so much attention and affection. We wish you both a happy Autumn and bright sunny days ahead, from all of us at Bungalow One.
