Detailed Reviews
Spending two days at Bungalow One, Prayagraj was indeed very enjoyable and relaxing. The property is awesome- a bungalow from the British era which has been really well maintained. Huge garden full of lovely flowers and also an orchard. Mrs. Sethi and her daughter are wonderful hosts. They are caring, meticulous about fulfilling needs of the guests and very warm people. The breakfast was excellent- regular fruits, cereals, toast, eggs and also some Indian delicacy. We enjoyed their library so much. So many wonderful books to read. The room we stayed in was huge and really comfortable. If you want to visit Prayagraj, do stay at this beautiful place and enjoy.

If you want an experience of quaint comfort, genuine hospitality and family-style warmth, Bungalow-One is the place to head to in Allahabad. It is an old-style colonial bungalow (think fireplace, tall ceilings, ancient wood-furniture, comfortable sofas, recliners and loungers), whose well-maintained interiors and surroundings are rarely on display these days, anywhere in the subcontinent. Placed in Civil Lines, all the closest attractions are walking distance or a few minutes by road (a mall, the old university, Nehru’s Anand Bhavan, the Sangam or confluence of the rivers Ganga/Yamuna, the excellent bakeries and the must-visit Wheeler’s bookstore, the Mughal-era Khusro-bagh garden, and the surprisingly nice city museum with a great collection of ancient and medieval sculptures, paintings and mughal-miniature artworks). I travelled there, towards the end of last year, to beat the hectic routine of big-city life. I am a wheelchair-user, and faced no hassles living in this excellent property.
Located amidst lawns, wooded trees, carefully tended blossoming flowers, and fragrant fruits and shrubs (Oranges, amla, lemons, basil, aloe-vera, etc.), this 19th century home offers unmatched and, perhaps, unmatchable, memories and experiences. The proprietors open their home to any visitor, and take the best possible care whilst one is with them. They are very helpful with suggestions for visits in the city and recommend things to do while one is with them. Breakfast is excellent and a high-point. For those mindful of the girth, an exercise-cycle and yoga mat is available! I was initially uncomfortable with the three dogs on the property, but the owners took good care to keep them away from me. The internet was slow while I was there.
The room that I stayed in is as old as the house, and offers teak-wood four-poster beds, desks, revolving book-shelves, and the choicest collection of fiction/non-fiction and travel books. There is a fire-place in the drawing room which makes for an excellent retreat in the winter evenings; days offer a chance to lounge in the sun, under a shamiana (tent) which the proprietors put up, or one can make use of the quaint little chairs, loungers, swings, etc. The choice on offer, as far as lazing is concerned, is remarkable! But the expected wares of modern life—television, wireless internet, coffee-maker—are still available, should one pine for them. There is an old, still-functioning 1962 Fiat that one can observe and request a ride in. There is a large back-area to walk in, under shaded trees and planted vegetable beds. And yet, privacy is guaranteed, given the proprietors' concern with comfort coupled with professional, hospitable conduct. If for nothing else, a night-long train journey from Delhi is highly recommended to sample the delights of Bungalow-One.

It was an out of the ordinary experience. One of the best places I have ever stayed in. The property is top class, gives a feeling of staying in and with nature, location central, the treatement royal, the food super, the people so courteous and humble .... You have no choice but to fall in love with Bungalow One. We felt very much like it was our own home, all our requests were attended to...... Mrs Sethi, you and your daughters Devika and Kanika made all the difference by not only looking into all the minute details but also giving your invaluable company and insights. God bless Bungalow One and you all. Hope we come again one more time.
The icing on the cake - the Kumbh mood and some great weather.

In a mad city where every hotel or guest house was overcharging tourists as they piled in for the Kumbh Mela 2013 (27 Jan - 25 Feb), I had almost given up hope of finding a reasonable accommodation until one of the forums recommended Bungalow One. It seemed too good to be true and I didn't think that there would any availability at an affordable price. So I emailed them without much hope and was thrilled to get a reply saying that there were rooms available for the dates we were looking for. This was the beginning of the many pleasant surprises we experienced during our three night stay at Bungalow One. The Sethi family redefine hospitality to a new level going out of their way to make their guests feel special and comfortable. They did this in a nice matter-of-fact way and other hotels or guest houses could learn a lesson or two from them. I am lost for choices in terms of what to pick as the highlight of our experience: be it the cozy rooms that are comfortably furnished, the blissful one acre site which provides a tranquil setting in an otherwise chaotic city, the wonderful daschunds (Leo and Samy) who were as eager to invite us in as the family members, the delicious meals or their ready at hand service when things went wrong (eg: our train was almost cancelled and we were lost for options). We have travelled widely through India and other parts of the world, and I must say that what they offer is unparalleled. It will be very difficult to match this memorable experience anytime soon.

We had a wonderful time in Allahabad during the Maha Kumbh Mela Event in 2013. We were very pleased with our accommodation and so happy that we met amazing people. We were impressed with the family (hosts) because they were not only extremely nice to us but they were also highly educated and their English was perfect. We had communicated with them prior to our arrival to India and they had offered us very helpful information when preparing for this trip (e.g. useful tips regarding transportation, taxi arrangements, etc.).
Upon our arrival, they took time to show us Allahabad, share its history and provide helpful information about the Kumbh Mela. Furthermore, they shared some of Indian traditions with us and prepared the most delicious and traditional Indian food for us. Thanks to them, we got to try traditional Indian food and we loved it! When preparing our food, our hosts did not use tap water to ensure our safety.
The house where we stayed at was absolutely beautiful. Our room was perfectly equipped and had everything that we could possibly need and more. Furthermore, were able to eat our meals or just relax in the garden, which was also great and had stunning flowers.
We enjoyed our stay in India more than ever before and we were sad to leave the family and their place. During our visit, we felt part of the family. We will definitely miss them and our interesting discussions.
If you are looking for a beautiful place to stay at, meet wonderful Indian people who will go out of their way to make you feel at home, look no further. India was absolutely beautiful but we believe we enjoyed it even more because of our hosts and accomodation. India is worth a visit especially when you get to stay with this family =)!
We would highly recommend this accommodation!! WE HOPE TO VISIT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE!

We very much enjoyed our stay here.
Our hosts made us feel at home and went out of there way to make sure were comfortable.
We were in town for the Kumbh Mela, including the main bathing date.
It was great to come back to this oasis after spending time in the Kumbh grounds.
It was also not far away from where everything was happening.
Set in an old British colonial building with a really large, peaceful garden, Bungalow One has a lot to offer guests. There is internet access, reasonably fast, via dongle connection.
The food is really good as well.
The Sethi family are also really nice people. We really enjoyed their company, they really made sure we were comfortable.
Ordinarily we are budget travelers, we chose to stay here as there was an accommodation shortage in Allahabad, due to the Kumbh Mela. We weren't disappointed. Overall the accommodation is great value.
We highly recommend Bungalow One.

If anyone were to think of opening a B&B,come to Bungalow one in Allahabad and see first hand how its done!! Absolutely superb attention to little details right from the time you are received at the Airport to the time you leave.
The number of hampers(all gratis) we saw,a thought would continuously cross our minds-'how do they make a profit??'
The Sethis -Devika who runs the B&B, her sister-Kanika and Mother-Mrs Sethi are lovely simple people who have perfected the art of B&B hosts in a spectacularly short time since opening . They give out the one room they have which is partially detached to the main house(which has an attached anti room for the kids) to guests. They have 3 dogs -Leo,Sammy(dachsunds) and Sheroo(who is more like a guard dog) -all have lovely temperaments once u get familiar. The lawn that the room comes with is spectacular -large and they even have their own kitchen garden to the rear of the property.
The room is from the old world with high ceilings, books and magazines and an old writing desk-all very charming. A very functional bathroom with a good hot and cold shower and a little tea/coffee maker with a rather well stocked hamper of teas, coffee and biscuits. There was even HONEY( which I have never found anywhere before-just delighted). A few words on the various hampers around- the car which transferred us to Bungalow 1 had assortment of drinks, water, cold towels, tissues, chips, biscuits etc. Our room had a hamper of biscuits, cookies,a can of wasabi chips(awesome-could not resist), and a number of other items which quite frankly I've forgotten. The bathroom had a hamper of toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving kit, soap, shampoos, conditioner, moisturizer, deodorant and much else.
The food at the B&B is good wholesome home made Indian food and they are very gracious in their helpings(for the price). However,u must tell them in advance if you will eat as they must prepare it, fresh for u! However, there is a folder filled with all the menus of the restaurants nearby and they all deliver to Bungalow 1.
Bungalow 1 is located beautifully, a ten minute walk from the famous 'Company Garden' where our famous freedom fighter-Bhagat Singh laid down his life. We went for our morning walk/jog there-lovely! There is a Catholic Church(St Mary's) just around the corner for the Catholics who want to attend mass on Sundays. And the famous El Chico restaurant is a 2 minute drive from the house. The Sangam would be a 15 minute drive. All in all,a superb stay and we will definitely be back, if for nothing else but to meet the lovely Sethis again.

This place is amazing. The Sethi family are extremely welcoming and they spoke better English than us Aussies! The staff are a delightful bunch and the food was to die for, having a background as a chef I could not fault anything. It sits on one acre of beautiful gardens and the 100 year plus British colonial building has been exquisitely maintained and has all the facilities one would need. Snacks and toiletries were complimentary which is a nice touch. They pay exceptional attention to detail. We were sad to leave and we will consider the Sethi family friends for life.

I stayed 3 nights at Bungalow one and had an absolutely lovely time there. The family was so welcoming and helpful, I felt like an honoured guest. The house and garden are lovely, the bedroom is large, really comfortable and beautifully decorated as is the rest of the house, and there were so many little thoughtful touches it felt like a home away from home. I had all my meals there and they were great and very reasonably priced. I enjoyed talking to them all about their lives in India, and answering questions about my life in Australia. I was in Allahabad to look into family history (my grandmother was born there) and all three of my hostesses were really interested in the story and were keen to help me find information. Part of this involved Devika taking me to the cemetery 3 times in 3 days, the final time I found my great-grandmother’s grave, and she was almost as pleased as I was. I unreservedly recommend staying there.

Please accept our grateful thanks for your review. We were lucky that you chose to stay at Bungalow One and shared your family's history with us -- visiting places that your grandmother would have visited a century ago brought the past alive in a very vivid way for us too, and made us view our town through new eyes. We hope you will keep your India connection alive!

Best to get in touch with Mrs Sethi direct and ask! I think it's a standard rate, but cannot give a definitive answer, sorry! Their website has contact details. I can recommend it, if what you seek is a quiet and civilised stay. Hope this helps.
