Was great to stay again after a long time and was pleased to find it just as inviting and lovely as I remember it- excellent restaurant, gorgeous grounds and beachfront, and beautifully maintained rooms. The Ideal is reasonably priced for such a nice hotel with great views, immaculately clean, spacious, and well-decorated rooms, a lovely, private stretch of beach with palm trees and many activities (including a relaxing pool), and beachside service for drinks and snacks. It is a little away from the hustle and bustle of the town, making it a relaxing resort getaway. Special mention to the absolutely amazing breakfast buffet with lots of fresh and expertly prepared offerings, including excellent appam and idiyappam, fresh pastries, omelets, and fruit plus all of the South Indian favorites and excellent local seafood at lunch and dinner.

I can’t believe that more people haven’t found this gem of resort just 50 mins out of Chennai. This 1970s style Ideal beach resort hotel, offers a stunning beach view and the best ever cooling breeze beneath the big permanent umbrellas with great beach side drinks service. You can literally look at the view, the goings on or read a book for hours without moving, the breeze just makes it perfect. Don’t let the retro look put you off, the staff are wonderful and the chefs are amazing. We choose to eat vegetarian whilst there and both the veg kebabs were excellent as were the dried cauliflower and dried potato dishes. This restaurant though has many talents we also tried noodle dishes and freshly made spring roles at dinner and beautiful kiwi or mango muffins and banana cake for breakfast along with superb normal Indian cuisine. This venue is used for conferences and there was one on whilst we were there, it didn’t cause us any issues in fact it enhanced my experience as I enjoy people watching and it was great to hear the enthusiasm for their team building exercises.
Just a 350 rupee taxi ride into town to see the 7th Century stone temples, Krishnas butterball and the Arjuna’s Penance carving. If you need a couple of nights chill away from the hassle and bustle of life and are happy to have some space, check it out, it really is Ideal and good value for money. A very special thank you to the young Nepalese lady who welcomed us to our meals and kindly phoned me of a morning to ensure our jet lag meant we didn’t miss breakfast so polite and a smile that made us feel very welcome.

This must be a go-to place for those who are looking out for a staycation nearby chennai. The resort has perfectly crafted rooms with awesome beach/ocean views, all necessary amenities and a very warm hospitality. Private beach is very well maintained and there were kids activities like real life chess, volleyball, swimming pool and they do arrange hammock for a relaxed noon. Food here is tad expensive. But it's worth the penny for richness and quality. Their white sauce pasta is a must try. Their breakfast spread is perfect and a delight for people who love idly, dosa, poori, pongal, upma and aapam. Restaurant is huge and has a very good ambience. Choose a deluxe room with room number 102. That's perfectly located with great ocean/beach view.

Beautiful construction with two-storey buildings that face inwards, or look towards the sea. Effective reception and easy check-in. The room is large and has both fans and air conditioning. But no, the bathroom has a small window to the outside with a mosquito net. They provide one large towel per day. If you then want to use the tub or take a shower there is another door that opens onto a large outdoor space. It would be pleasant and comfortable if the area wasn't densely inhabited by crows who usually perch on the wall or on the shower rod to do their business. There is a safe in the room (without instructions for use), but it is not fixed to anything, neither to the wall nor to the wardrobe, so an intruder could remove it with all its contents. The choice of the buffet is really wide and I think everyone can find something they like, the same goes for breakfast. Excellent à la carte menu. If you have any difficulty, rely on the staff, they are all kind and helpful also thanks to the head of staff V. Raja. There is also a bottle of filtered water available on the table. A plus is the really large swimming pool and the private beach, even if the sea is not that of the Maldives and no one will ever swim. The chairs made available are a truly unfortunate choice (there are no sunbeds) which are of an inconvenience bordering on criminal charges and unworthy of a hotel. They also provide beach towels for guests. Poor or non-working Wi-Fi. You need to go down to the Reception or the Restaurant to have a constant and sufficient signal. Overall I didn't mind it, but it would need, at the very least, new doors in the rooms (to keep heat and noise out) and a renovation of the bathrooms which have broken tiles and taps clogged with limescale. Note of merit for the restaurant, we had à la carte dinner one evening and it was really good; perhaps one of the places where we ate best in India.

Our stay at Ideal beach (25th May 2024) offered a mix of both delightful and disappointing experiences. On the positive side, the buggy drive around the property was enjoyable. The breakfast served was hearty and fulfilling, featuring a great variety of well-prepared dishes, including South Indian and Continental. Additionally, the room service was excellent, with prompt and courteous responses to all our requests.
Our rooms had a beautiful partial-beach view. However, several aspects of the room facilities did not meet expectations. The bathroom was inadequately lighted with no proper ventilation, save for a small dirty window covered with wire mesh that barely sufficed.The room air conditioning unit was old and lacked the potency to adequately cool the room, which was highly uncomfortable in warm weather. One of our rooms were not properly clean as we found clumps of hair under the dressing table and we also had stained bedsheets. Furthermore, the television was too small for the size of the room, which detracted from the overall enjoyment of watching.
Another significant drawback was the WiFi connectivity, which suffered from frequent drops, making it difficult to stay connected to the internet. While parts of the stay were enjoyable, the room's comfort and technology amenities made our stay discomforting. Ideal beach resort can boast beautiful landscaped gardens and pools, but careless attitude to room facilities downgrades the overall stay experience.

I went with my family to Ideal beach resort /.Mahabalipuram / Chennai. On 25/26 October 2023
The welcome and check in was very good. I had no issues with the food and service either. Mr. Raja their restaurant manager was extremely courteous. Regarding the room I have a few comments which I hope the resort owners take into consideration. Thr bathroom mats had a very stale smell There were no soap trays in the shower area. Towels were not clean.
The worst part was our room ( No. 37) was located near their party Hall. There was an event which started at 9.30 am. They started playing loud music and the anchor was announcing loudly on a Mike. This was just being very insensitive to guests occupying rooms who had come for a quiet holiday with family. I have a recording of the event too. The resort must consider guests when such loud parties with loud speakers are organised.

Mixed bag. The check in was a whammy, we had booked a triple bed room but they charged extra for the third person as we had provided names of only two, the third being our teenage daughter. This was a cheap trick. The rooms were good. Cleaning staff were prompt. Others were also cordial and helpful.
Food nice,though breakfast was needlessly repetitive on all 4 days. Food is not cheap though, ( there are many restaurants nearby which are affordable).But yes,the staff here was marvellous. Food was tasty. Bit more vegetarian choice would be ideal. The best part is the beach. the quiet seaside at night where you can relax, have even snacks was definitely a high point and refreshing.Here again an idiot of a security staff tried to stop us from entering the beach after 6 pm. This being summer, the place is hot as hell till sun goes down. I had to ask him to go and mind his business. The coast is not owned by anyone. They should at least know what is legal before imposing such restrictions. These unnecessary events mar one's mood, especially whe the idea is to be away from troubles. This sort of high handedness was repeated in the pool too where my daughter was disallowed from entering the pool as she did not look her age.. This is neither a university campus nor a private prison. The pool is badly designed with a small 4 ft deep one linked to 8 ft one with no gradient. Most important, this place teems with 'visitors' including the beach and even the pool. These are people who give a fixed amout for the day and loiter around, even playing loud music. If your idea is to have peace and quiet after a hectic life, try somewhere else. Birthday parties, office gangs etc spoil an otherwise nice atmosphere with well maintained lawns. This is not done in any other resort of this class. Pros: nice food and excellent staff, nice lawns good rooms and of course the beach. Tbe Ayurvedic treatment is good, and decently priced. Cons: Check in (be careful while booking ), badly designed pool, unnecessary restrictions at beach, and large day time gangs of boisterous 'visitors'who swarm the beach and pool, slightly expensive food.

We took ourselves off to Mahabalipuram for two nights in September 2022. Ideal Beach Resort was highly recommended by friends, and turned out to live up to expectations. Our room was huge, with a big bathroom and a balcony with a stunning partial view of the sea. Everything was neat, clean, and comfortable and everything worked. One grouse is that despite knowing we were a couple with a small child, the resort gave us a pair of single beds and not a double although the buggy driver who brought our luggage to the room called this in to housekeeping when we pointed it out. The resort has its own semi-private stretch of beach, with nice clean sand as well as volleyball etc. and two stands from which pizza and other snacks can be purchased. There are also chairs and tables available. Overall a very nice place to spend an evening. The restaurant is also worth mentioning. The food is very good, and the spread, especially at breakfast, is vast. The buffet at breakfast even had Sri Lankan dishes, including several different sambals, which were very, very good. We were slightly disappointed to find that the choice of fish and seafood was tiny. The fish that we ordered did not also seem to be from the fishermen next door and instead from a freezer. The service at the restaurant was very friendly and reasonably quick. The restaurant was extremely crowded during the time we were there. Despite this the staff were always cheerful and friendly. A big shout out to Mr. Raja and Ms. Fairy who really looked after us. A car is an essential if you want to go around Mahabalipuram. I am not aware if the resort arranges cabs, but I presume they do. All tourist places are not far from the resort, however.

I've been to IBR twice, once almost 25 years ago when I was a kid and second in August 2023 with my 2 kids, wife and parents. The stay was comfortable, the location was great.. we could walk right to the beach in 30 seconds from our villa, food was really good as well. DO NOT MISS THE BREAKFAST BUFFET!!. Raja from the dining services department made some amazing recommendations on the best sea food preparations and got us the freshest and biggest catch of the day (massive king prawns and fishy fry). Kevin who is one of the staff who works at dining is such a warm and hospitable host, the staff in general are very soft spoken and accommodating of families especially with kids. We also caught the sun rising from the horizon early morning around 5:30 AM, absolutely fantastic view. The beaches are clean and well maintained, manned by guards during day light hours. Food and beverages served right to you on the beach. Theres a great massage spa and antiques store on premises too. Baggae and luggage services on premise with electric buggys so you dont have to haul stuff around. Overall we had a blast here and Raja and Kevins hospitality was the icing on the cake.
We also had a chance to meet with Mr. Bose, a long time friend of my father and relatives in the family. We will be back again, thank you for hosting us in your resort. :)
Summary: 1) Rooms: Get the deluxe room or the garden facing room if dont care about sea facing views, the walk to the beach is at most 45 seconds from most of the rooms. 2) Food: Breakfast buffet.. don't miss this. Talk to Raja about best seafood options. 3) Beach: Find a nice spot, order food/ beverages in and theyll be delivered right to you. You could end up spending the entire day right here at the beach.

I had an opportunity to stay at the Ideal Beach Resort & Convention Center at Mahabalipuram in Jan. 2025 while I traveled in India.
The service, facilities, food, and staff (and the ocean next-door of course) were outstanding. Also, I want to take a chance to thank Sathish Kumar and his team who helped me to reach my next destination. Because my flight was canceled, they worked non-stopped (at very late hours) to arrange a taxi for me to take me to the Ayurvedic Medical center. It was about a 10-hour journey, which seemed very fast and smooth. Because of this extra effort I didn’t miss any of my treatments. That is the kind of service you can expect from Ideal Beach Resort.
