Went to Grande Bay for a weekend stay with family. We were upgraded to the studio rooms, perhaps given the lower occupancy, which was a nice touch. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Though the beach is a slight distance away from the rooms, a buggy car was always available on call so visiting the beach was not much of a hassle. The beach while small was clean. Breakfast was good, although the A la carte menu was a little light on options, specifically South Indian which was a put off for our parents. This is an area where the resort could do better. A special word about the staff, obviously well-trained, courteous, smiling and ever ready to help. Overall a good stay and we would recommend this place.

The property is well made and well organized. The staff very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is both buffet and a la carte and it's really very good. The breakfast is good and very varied. At the moment the influx of Western tourists is almost nothing and therefore the menu is typically Indian. Food is excellent. There are afternoon activities and tea snacks. There is also a SPA with good value for money and an equipped gym. The rooms are all in front of the pool and with a private garden at the back (too bad that given the amount of insects and the absence of mosquito nets is not usable). The rooms are very large but a bit crumbling. The shower is big, but very little water comes out. Although the bathroom is large, there is little room for the beauty case. The fridgebar (empty) is very noisy, we turned it off the first night and the next morning everything was flooded (because it had probably never been defrosted). The air conditioning cannot be adjusted, it is too cold and it is too hot. Fortunately, above the bed is the fan. Good wifi. The kindness of the staff and the excellence of the food, however, compensates for the defects of the room and therefore it is a recommended hotel!

Excellent service and a great experience from checkin to the stay, food as well as checkout. I had booked the chalet room, but was upgraded to the duplex room. The duplex room came with king size bed, a small private sit out at the back and the floor above too had a balcony sit out. The resort is 100 mts from the beach and is accessible from the property. Grande bay has a weeding venue at the back of the resort that has beach access, so you almost get a private beach experience. The pool was another high point. Very well maintained and accessible all through the day. But the highlight of the stay was the food at Latitude restaurant (part of the resort). I have been visiting Mahabalipuram almost every year since last 10 years and have enjoyed the fare at the local restaurants like Moonrakers for the sea food. But this time after having the sea food at the Grande bay restaurant, I can say the other local fares do not stand up to the quality and hygiene factor of the Latitude. Grande Bay has now become my default destination for stay at Mahabalipuram

Very nice hotel, the room is large. Beautiful swimming pool with lifeguard. Good restaurant and reasonable prices. Good breakfast and very kind staff. Free buggy to take you to the beach (no swimming because of dangerous currents). Spa not used due to late arrival.

Beautiful property, wonderful staff, personal touches! Vinoth, housekeeping supervisor, created a stunning floral arrangement in my room after I commented to him on the flowers I love on the property. He and his team are attentive and professional. Mr. Ghospuse, manager, is doing a great job making this a tip-notch place to stay and to experience the beauty and delights of India!

I booked the hotel looking at the reviews and the photos. I paid around Rs.14k for a night stay. I was utterly disappointed the moment I stepped in. I am wondering how these guys are maintaining a 4.5 rating. Beach access - First of all, the Beach view they show here is not accurate. Both are two separate properties connected via public road. The hotel property doesnt have a direct access to the beach. They provide you shuttle services to the other beach side property owned by the hotel via public road. This access is available on till 7:30pm in the evening. Which means no beach access after this time. The beach facing section is good but the problem is the connectivity.
Rooms - Rooms are dirty including the walls. Furniture's are old and poorly maintained. Refer to the attached photos. They dont even have proper curtains for the windows. The TV had no signal the whole time. My biggest disappontment was the bed. They put together 2 single mattress to make it a king size bed. It was not comfortable.
Staff - Most of them are Trainies. The service was average.

We spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a lovely beach on the Bay of Bengal about a five minute walk away. The staff is also available to take you to the beach in a golf cart should you not want to walk. Rooms overlooked a very large beautiful swimming pool. There is a very good spa here….I had an amazing therapeutic massage and I was told by a friend that the reflexology was also out of this world. The food was also very good. Very accommodating staff.

A very nice, large and deep pool. delicious food before dinner there is tea time with very tasty filter coffee and masala.
The beach is not far away, there is a free buggy from the hotel. There are also huge rain umbrellas throughout the hotel. The ocean is beautiful. Beach with black tide. there were cows nearby. Hammock and very warm water in the shower.
Everything is very nice. The staff is great. Thank you!

We had the great pleasure of spending the last days of our tour through India at the Grande Bay Resort, and we cannot praise this wonderful resort enough. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The entire team was incredibly courteous and friendly. Every staff member, from the reception to the restaurant staff to the housekeepers, contributed to making our stay unforgettable.
The property itself is simply stunning – clean, well-maintained, and beautifully designed. Our room was comfortable.
We would also like to highlight the excellent cuisine. The food was outstanding in taste. We had twice the catch of the day ☺️. There was also a wide variety of options, so there was something for every taste.
We would like to sincerely thank the entire team. You made our vacation an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend this resort to everyone!
Best regards, Diana & Daniel

Swim suit/swimming shorts officially, but they are don't seem to be too strictly enforced. We saw some conference delegates swimming in underpants or shorts and no one seemed to be bothered.

Certainly they don t have securities . Not sure if its true but unofficially they caution the guests about chance of being mugged.
The shore actually adjoins a local fishing hamlet settlement . No harm from them.
Probably outsiders can cause trouble - hypothetically .
There are more places to choose from in the Mahabalipuram area.
