We've always wanted to visit this place ever since it opened. We had this place in our to visit places when we planned our trip to India. So last month when we were in Chennai we visited this place for brunch. The vibe in the place is amazing. It has multiple levels and we sat on the 2nd floor where there are a few tables and its overlooking the beach. We could see a few kids playing in the water. There are a few rooms in the property as well which are good and maintained well. The staff in here are very friendly as well, giving it a very friendly atmosphere. The food in this place is really good. It's made in authentic flavours and definitely wakes up all your taste buds. If you cant handle spicy food, then you'll have to watch out and let the waiter know about it before you order. We ordered the sandwiches, Dosa, Egg dosa and the Fish curry. They were all wonderful. flipflopshack located right at the beach facing the shore is an amazing stay for a rewind from a rough month or year. The food they serve is very basic. Rooms are available in various sizes. The service was the WORST. We had opted for an ac room only for an ancient metal container that didn't work at all. There was no rectification of the situation or compensation for the cheating. The attitude of the staff wasn't hospitable at all. There are a few more properties like this next door to flipflopshack which are better. Regret paying the entire stay in advance. Make sure to pay only during check out.

Staying in the budget rooms was the best: you pay less and can enjoy the wonderful terrass that you share only with two other rooms. Perfect open to 180degrees view. We had quiet neighboors and at night, very soon, only th sound of the waves to rock you to sleep. The room os confortable for the price. No hot water (but warm enough), good electrical system, big bed (a bit aged), and rooms are very neat. It is never hot, even during day time. Terrasses and stairs are cleaned twice a day. nothing to say. The manager that runs the place is very kind, polite, and smart. It appeared to be slightly epensive for what is is, but finally, the location (and the conditions) makes it a fair price.

It's just basic room, only location is awesome- on the beach itself, but other hotels are there with similar view. Dimmed. No cupboards in room, no hot water, no pantry, not even morning tea. 2.2k/ night. Some 4-5 other hotels/ shacks are there in same line some of which has restaurant.

Room was large with good view of beach. Room was full of big hole so mossie and crawlies get in, big massive hole in bathroom with building rubbish in it.snd bathroom is open plan roof with a tarpoling covering it, The person running it was helpful This is a party all night place so expect much sleep

Very nice spot, right on the beach. Pleasant atmosphere, great staff, marvelous view. One of the staff members acoompagnied me to the pharmacy and the bicing rental shop. The owner and part time DJ is very relaxed.

The view is breathtaking and its a hop skip jump to the beach. Yes seen Dolphins from my room. Has rooms for budget travellers and AC rooms. Friendly staff and very accommodating. First time in mahabalipuram and the beach is beautiful. It can get very hot though so bring along your summer clothes and suntan.

A couple of friends and I stayed here for a night. I chose the spot because I had been here once before, and I remembered how awesome it was that the shack was right on the beach & ocean. The owner John was extremely helpful, and shifted our rooms when the electricity didn't work in the first room. It is also walking distance to a lot of restaurants, and accessible by taxi from Chennai.
