Penning my review with a conscious mind that the hospitality sector is reeling with the impact of Covid-19 and we all should extend the best possible support to the hospitality sector.

The Paradise: It is one of the large sprawling beach reports with a well maintained lawn, massive swimming pool, wonderfully designed cottages, access to the beach. Lots of open spaces for peace and quiet. Kids have a play area which is functional, there is a snooker table with some board games around. Staff is kind and helpful and wants to serve

The Purgatory: Terribly understaffed and stretched to the limits personnel. Room service in beach resorts which are spread is always a challenge but this one exceeds all patience timelines. I had to call for water over 5 times. Food is average at best and bad in some cases but what is most annoying is the non availability of dishes on the buffet, firstly there are no starters in the spread (which is acceptable), There are no counters for eggs/breads and you have to catch hold of the 3-4 waiters (which is extremely difficult) to place your order and wait for extended periods f time before you are served. Simple setting up of tables with cutlery & water is not a part of the system. Be prepared to be at the breakfast table before 8:30 to find dishes and space and dinner before 9:00 PM or you will have to make do with leftovers.

The straw that broke the camels back- When you go to a beach resort you expect seafood fresh. A fish finger dish ordered for my 10 year old came out as stale fish with mayonnaise with terrible oil smell and led my son to have a stomach infection on the way back. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Reversing the charge for the dish is not the expected outcome

So while I think the resort has potential and can be developed post the covid impact with better staffing the quality and hygiene has to improve and the buck needs to stop with someone for these incidents

We stayed in Chariot Beach Resort for two days, the stay was peaceful and worthy.
I am from Chennai and I often travel to Mahabalipuram with family for a short break and we have been in various resorts, this resort was one of the best out there. I am not going to provide a comparison with others but I am just going to express my personal view and experience with this resort.

The resort is spacious everywhere from car parking, pool, grassland, and beachside. the room we stayed was well maintained and the view from the room was so refreshing to eyes (The sea view room on the first floor) but I felt a tiny balcony would have given even more ambience to the room.
The private beach was excellent. Leisure walk from porch to the beach takes about 10 minutes but all the way to the beach is well dressed with coconut trees, garden, and grassland, etc.,

The restaurant was something we didn’t utilize much the complimentary breakfast didn’t have many varieties. We always ended up with some juice and south Indian food like idly and dosa, in short, the restaurant missing something to make us feel better. Another concern was the private party which interfered with the staying guests. I personally felt that people coming just for day-out and the private parties should be disconnected from staying guests as it disturbs the pleasing, privacy and repose.

Overall it was a great and safe stay. I had to choose 4 stars due to the concerns mentioned.

We had a wonderful stay at Chariot beach resorts. We were welcomed in a traditional way. Resorts preserves and promotes green initiatives by using battery operated vehicles inside to commute inside. Staffs were so supportive. They attended every call nicely and professionally. Especially swimming pool guard was so attentive to kids presence.

Pongal special programmes are very nice. Private beach is well maintained. Swimming pool is awesome. Indoor fun zone can be improved.

Few thing to improve from your side are

1. Plan for huge inflow of guests during vacations and long weekends. We had to wait a long time to check-in.
2. Treating 11 year old kids as adult is too much. You have to change your guest policy.
3. Taste of South Indian dishes at the restaurant needs more attention.
4. Have check-out process discreet. Don't ask to check the room stuff (check for used/missing things) in front of the guest. It felt awkward.

It was a nice stay with family and felt so safe inside the resort.

Disappointing stay. More like a 3 * property. No information given at check in about the hotel, its amenities or anything. Had to make our own list of what we needed to know and take it to Reception. Our room was disappointing, mirror and light switch in bathroom rusty, shower head crusted with limescale and not working fully as a result. Mould on ceiling. Smell of drains in bathroom.Mould on tiles in bathroom and walls and ceiling, unsightly area of shower wall with tiles missing and rough plaster applied, very poor standard of decoration. The restaurant itself was laid out like a staff canteen – tables laid together in a long row. No table settings by way of cutlery or serviettes. These were available for collection from the serving areas, together with plastic cups and saucers . The food was plentiful and buffet style and generally OK .On our first visit to the restaurant there was no acknowledgement of our arrival or guidance – complained to staff and this improved a little but overall attention and service was non-existent. The only member of staff who engaged with us was the Bar man who was friendly and smiled. It is such a shame because the hotel is in a great location with an unspoilt beach and large swimming pool. There were very few chairs/loungers on either. It is a lovely walk into the town and right next to the Five Rathas which are magnificent.

Pros
• Private beach where you can relax, have a drink / smoke, and isn’t crowded at all. For safety reasons, you can’t take a dip post 07:00 PM and is closed by 11:00 PM which is understandable
• Staff members are polite. However, the management / policies leave a lot to be desired
• Serene location, not a lot of traffic outside. Very close to Panch Rathas & Sea Museum – couple of attractions Mahabalipuram
• Electric carts are helpful and you can call them to your room

Cons
• Booked a Sea View Suite. In the advertisement it mentioned 2 beds but it was 1 bed and a mattress. This should have been made clear while booking room
• Sea View Suite is ~0.5 km from the ocean and you can’t actually see it from your room
• Room isn’t as spacious as advertised
• Limited menu between 03:00 PM to 07:00 PM. The kitchen is closed (I think) and you cannot order food during this time
• You can order drinks near the beach, however, the charges will be extra even though they have to procure it from bar which is nearby
• Room was booked for 3 people but items provisioned were for 2 people only
• Check-in is a bit late – 02:00 PM. We arrived at 02:00 PM but were made to wait till 03:30 PM. The problem wasn’t the delay but the fact that they kept saying it will take 10-15 minutes for over 90 minutes. However, I understand that this may not happen to everyone

Overall: I don’t think I’ll go there again. Will try my luck somewhere else next time

I went for a family outing to this resort and I will recommend this place to my friends and families. Spacious and clean room. Very neat and clean private beach. This private beach is one of the best around Chennai & Mahabalipuram. Large swimming pool - It was a clean and large area just for 2 feet depth where my kids enjoyed very much. Staffs are very kind and helpful. The reception (Check-in and check-out) process should be improved. Unnecessarily it takes time. I would suggest the management to introduce the queue system instead of allowing everyone to directly approach the receptionist.

We found our suite excellent and very specious . All the staff were very helpful including those who drove us on battery cars . Even we had a candle light dinner at the beach on that night . U guys offered us so many items which we unable to eat .😋 Experienced candle light dinners in other hotel chains like Taj and park in different places . When compared with quantity there menu were very limited when compared to yours . Even the cost of suite was also low when compared to other resorts at mahabalipuram .

More over we enjoyed our stay at your resort and looking frwd to be there in future .

Convey my thanks to each and every one who served us . 😁😁

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and it was overall a wonderful experience. The staff is extremely courteous and always willing to attend to requests. Its ambience is one of the best that I have been seen and the resort is very strategically located if you want to visit monuments.

An issue we faced was bad plumbing in our bathroom. We didnt expect that we will face drainage issues in a room for which we paid over 15k a night. I hope the hotel takes cognisance of these issues which can inconvenience guests.

But overall a memorable experience. Would strongly recommend to tourists visiting Mahabalipuram.

Also, the food was great!

Stayed 2days in the cottage.. had good times with kids.. they enjoyed a lot at private beach and swimming pool.. neat and not crowded.. few of my good and bad experience are here

Good
Staffs are good and friendly behaviour.. Spacious room.. big lawn.. private beach neatly maintained.. large swimming pool.. Spacious play area, kids enjoyed a lot.. Pongal events was awesome.. Speedy room Services..

Bad
No Wifi Signal and poor Mobile network.. cottage amenities are not upgraded to latest one like, TV, floor, bathroom etc which gave a old feel..Bad bathroom, doesn't even have a bathtub and Small old type of shower.. Bad water(yellow colour) was suppose to use twice or thrice(attached photo).. Floor tiles are ugly and shows the age of cottage.. Food is too costly and not worth for the spends..Just a dry dosa spends without any chutney or sambar made me to pay few hundreds(attached photo)..

Overall experience is Average and not happy for the spends rated 3/5

I would like to rate individual areas as below

Private beach - 4.5 / 5

Private beach sand colour and ambience is most beautiful. Will get a feeling like foreign beaches like Mauritius.

You need to cross greenery mini golf course to reach the beach. With beach and golf course at background will be able to take good photos

Only thing why I am rating 4.5 instead 5 out of 5 is that there is possibility general public walking down the shore from shore temple 1km may get to reach the beach. As beach is nature gift and cannot have borders.

Swimming pool - 4/5

It is good in size with variant depths 2ft 4ft 5.5 ft. Towels with safe guard person was available to monitor and support

Food 3.5/5

I am vegetarian and tried veg foods like dal makhani, paratha, roti and veg biriyani

Taste is good. Veg biryani is less spicy and more flavoured.

Breakfast buffet costing Rs.600( if not booked during reservation )was adequate with varieties. Juice , salads , bread, corn flakes , idly, dosa, pongal, upma, vadai, poori , sidedish - sambar, 2 variety chutney, potato , Omelette, coffee, tea

Tea and coffee price taking separately during morning or evening is very expensive. Rs. 200 per cup. May be tea and coffee to be brought down like Rs.125.

Welcome drink could be little better.

Room 3/5

Rooms are good and spacious with wardrobes.

Window instead transparent , black glass or light shaded glass could have been provided as unable to open screen always.

Toileteries kit are ok.

Rest room floor colour may be changed it to light colors.

Entertainment or Games 1/5

Very disappointed with games part. Not provided shuttle bats when requested. Unable to see even one person playing.

Indoor games like billiards, carom, chess placed near reception. Could have placed games inside rooms to make family members to play inside privacy

Outdoor courts like tennis , beach volleyball, badminton and basketball are available. But not even seen 1 person playing. May be playing kits and maintainence not being maintained well by the hotel.

Overall

I will rate 4 out of 5 as you can get picturesque photos from this venue.

Thank you for trip advisor for enabling me to write detailed review

Thank you chariots team.
