I have to say that the price was unbeatable (400 Rp. for double room). The garden is nice and has a shady chill-out place and the bath was one of the cleanest I have seen in Indian ho(s)tells, Room No. 32. BUT all this was ruined by the fact that, even though we had some extra sheets and precautiously put our clothes on (during dry period heat), we got bitten all night long by whateveritwas. And it wasn't only mosquitoes. Unless you have skin like an elephant, don't go there, you will be regretting it. The only way of changing this place into a really nice one would be hygiene and a radical "bug cure". The manager doesn"t seem to care. He just shrugged his shoulders to my feedback. Well, just make your own experience...or better avoid it.
Lakshmi cottage is a simple but adequate stay for backpackers especially. The rooms are not clean and there is quite a lot of wildlife but, if you can put up with that, it is extremely close to the beach (less than 1 minute walk), staff are friendly, there is free WiFi, TV and fan, and the surrounding area is lovely and peaceful, full of restaurants, cafes and lovely shops. (Much more peaceful than the other side of town where the shore temple is, which can get extremely busy especially at weekends.) The swimming pool, if it exists, is almost definitely never open. We were told it was wrecked by drunk new year visitors, but have read other reviews from several years ago who also say it is not available. Cant comment on the restaurant as we prefer cheaper street food. Overall, this is a cheap place to stay and you get what you pay for, simple and quite dirty but big (had enough space for 2 of us to do yoga!) and in a great location.…
Stayed in the Lakshmi cottage for two days. First they gave the room which smelled badly and wash basin broken, Mosquito are coming from the Broken window. After request they have changed the room it was bit okay when compared to the other room. room size is big and the whole building is very old, so it looks not gud. If we get a deal for less than 300 then its gud otherwise not gud for money. AC rooms will be gud as its a newly constructed building not the non AC.
Very bad Hotel...we booked it online for less amount in some offer of cleartrip ..after reaching hotel, manager asked us extra 400 rupees because what room we booked was not available ..we went from Bangaloreand was full tied with kids..so we paid extra 400 and took the room. It was at all not clean...lots of mosquitoes in day time also..seeing Bed and Bathroom we felt like not cleaned from last 1 month, Plz see photos you can make out everything..no need to explain anything. one more thing when we asked where is swimming pool, manager told per person 500 rupees extra you have to pay. after arguing lot with manager we told ok we will pay..show swimming pool then he started making excuses - water is not there, In January month customer dont ask for pool..no water now sir....but he dint show the swimming pool....So, I feel this Hotel not have swimming pool only.…
I think I would have given a better quote if we hadn't been brought there by a tout. I am sure we would have paid less. The room was huge. The staff was correct. The bathroom was not super clean. The fan was way too strong to be practical at night even on the lowest number. It's not far from the beach and is fairly central. Wifi signal weak in our room and anyway very slow. There probably used to be a pool but it's completely destroyed. So only average but not bad.
as described by other reviewers, this hotel building is old and maintenance is poor, all things considered. dirty curtains, sheets, etc. and what swimming pool? non-existent one. pretty sure i can get better hotel in Mahab if i had the strength to walk in scorching Indian heat then, but I didn't. and the hotel manager approached me in the street to show this place. i took the bait and there i was. moved to more luxurious hotel the next day (wish I would have done that earlier).
If you are visiting Mahabalipuram on a backpack journey than you can stay at this place. The place offers you a decent room with AC and it's very economical. Not recommended to family. The place doesn't offer any food.
This place is amazing. They have AC rooms and less than 100m from the beach. If you take the rooms on the first flooe it comes with a balcony from which you can see the beach. The best part is they allow you to bring your pets/dogs with you. Pet have to be well behaved and not howl and be a nuisance of course. They provide a mat for pets to sleep on. And pets are not allowed on the furniture/bed. Great place. Staff arelaid back and very accomodating. Calling and prior booking with intimation regarding pets is recommended. Speak to murali 😊
BAD SMELL all over the room. When asked they replied that IT MAY BE FROM NEAR rooms...AC serves as the place for INSECTS and NESTS......No power in morning......No FANS, ROOMS not clean......WORST atmosphere...VERY WORST HOSPITALITY and ROOM SERVICE.....! Neither BEDSPREADS NOT PILLOWS are OK...... These type of hotels SURELY SPOIL the name of TRIPADVISOR......I am terribly upset and frustrated.....PLEASE AVOID staying in LAKSHMI COTTAGE MAHABALIPURAM...! They care for money....They have given as SWIMMING POOL is avialable.....Currently there is no such amenities......WIFI was made available only in night...in morning, it was also not available.....! THE WORST HOTEL.....I SHOULD GIVE NEGATIVE MARKS out of 100......BE CAREFUL PEOPLE.
