The bungalow is a heritage property and the caretakers were simply amazing people i.e. Mr and Mrs. Shastri. The food that was served was also up to the mark, thus we never felt the need for ordering food from outside. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. It's easily accessible to the main road and still away from the hustle of the city. The property overlooks a tea estate. It's the worth the money and would highly recommend it.

Sunshine bungalow was once a residential house of a European family of Swedish origin, I was told. Kottagiri is near Ooty in Tamilnadu, South India - and of course a Hill Station. The bungalow is situated in a calm and quite area in more than 1 Acre of land on a slop near Kottagiri Town by the Club Road. The bungalow was christened by its European owners as Sunshine - not just as a name for its sake sans any meaning. It was with a definite contemplation. The location and the construction of the bungalow were so chosen by its original owners so that the sun rays - a rare commodity in hill stations - freely enter into its rooms giving it a nice and excellent warmth in the coldness - a magical and mysterious fusion of different elements of climate in a synchronous manner. My two year old boy survived three days and two nights there without a sweater as he persistently refused to take one. It doesn't mean the climate was not cold. It was very cold. But he was just enjoying the rare occasion of the confluence of two opposite climatic perceptions - coldness and warmth.

The original and traditional Indo-European style of architecture of the building is well preserved without compromising the needs of modern facilities of a tourist (vacation) accommodation. Selectively chosen antique furniture of hardwoods do only add to the antiqueness of the main component - the building.

Artificial way of landscaping is avoided, probably purposefully. Avoided most of the artificialities doesn't mean that everything is let go wild. A nice balance is maintained. Nothing is there so roughly wild and nothing is there fully artificial to make us sick. The side yard of the bungalow has a small patch of tea garden. It has also some fruit plants. A beautiful flower garden blesses with full bloomed flowers of endemic varieties. Apparently it was not molested by a landscapist. A miniature of a hairpin bend of downward gradient from the public road leads to the front yard and portico. A small tea garden bounds the front yard gives a very nice overview to the surroundings. Herds of bisons from the nearby forest area will give occasional appearance in the tea garden. They are harmless (if no harm is offered to them).

Nigiri Hills is the part of the Western Ghats - a hotspot of biodiversity. The Hills are known for the richness of its avifauna. The mystique musics of a large chorus of birds will naturally wake you up in the morning to show how the Sun rising from hide in the hill ranges showers its rays in abundance into the building. Bright colours of fully bloomed flowers precipitated with morning dew and reflected in sun rays will rejuvenate anyone saturated by the over stress of work and monotonous urban life. If vacation is to recharge your spirit Nilgiri Hills is an ideal location and Kottagiri is a preferable place for the availability of essential facilities in the least commercialised manner.

My experience in the Sunshine Bungalow was superb. The foods served were excellent. The Chef is not a university graduated man clad in uniform. He is native man who knows how to cook healthy and tasty foods. The kitchen is open and you can see cooking. Or else, involve in it too. We can vouch ourselves no rotten stuffs are used for cooking. Foods here are tarsier than anything served in the multinational branded outlets of our urban centres - and obviously healthier.
The manager - Mr Sastri - is residing in an outhouse in the same premises with his family. Two security personnel are also on duty day and night and you need no further guarantee for your sense of security. All staffs, especially, the Manager Mr Sastri, will surprise you with their courteous, polite and respectful behaviour.
If you are for a vacation with your family to escape from the urban stresses Sunshine Bungalow will give you a homely stay with full sense of security, of course, without any intrusion into your privacy. The Bungalow has two units. Each unit has two bath attached big bed rooms, living room and a dining area. They are separated by a reception-cum-office room. The entire dispensation is like truly a beautiful aristocratic lady not fallen into the hands of a modern beautician. You can truly enjoy your vacation in that destination as if you are in a temporarily translocated your own house.

My wife and I went to Kotagiri in connection with my 40th year reunion of my college friends with family. We got to stay in this beautiful British styled Bungalow. This is not a hotel but a Home stay or can be called an Estate Bungalow.

Located at 1900 meters above sea level and overlooking the tea estate and greenery of the valley. Absolutely breathtaking view from the Bungalow. The staff also maintain a very lovely garden and the flowers were in full bloom when we visited.

The Bungalow has two wings and each wing has two bedrooms and a common living room. One bedroom in each wing is in the front with the valley view. The rooms are spacious, clean and have a big bathroom. Wooden flooring and typical British high-cieling.

They have a separate dining room. The Manager Sasthri and the staff are very nice and courteous. The food quality was excellent. Breakfast is included as part of the package.

This is an excellent place to go to and relax for a couple of days and forget about everything else. Kotagiri is totally unspoiled and is pristine. The Bungalow is very well maintained and i would recommend this to any traveller who would love a quiet couple of days of bliss.

We stayed at the Sunshine Bungalow for 2 nights for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and we enjoyed it thoroughly. This place is ideal for a quiet and relaxing holiday. Thanks to Shasthry, the manager and Thangaraj who went out of their way to make our stay special. We had booked all four rooms in the bungalow so that we could have the place to ourselves. All the rooms have been tastefully decorated and well maintained. The food, mainly South Indian was cooked to our taste and we enjoyed it. Our overall experience was excellent and we will definitely return for a special occasion. Thanks and keep the good work going, you have one happy customer :)

Went with my extended family (6 adults + 2 children) and booked the full bungalow -- 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, attached baths. House is very comfortable and staff are attentive. Stunning views from garden/gazebo.
Manager Sastri helpful in planning sightseeing itinerary.
But be prepared for a rude shock wjhen you get the bill. It was cold in the evenings, and Manger asked us if we anted a fir in the living rooms and heaters in the bedrooms, to which we agreed. Were never told that this was extra. We got a bill of Rs.4,900/- for the "fireplace" and a bill of Rs.4800/- for the heaters i.e. Rs.9700/- for heating !!
Reg food -- you can order and they cook it but there is no menu wiotjh prices. Again got a very high bill like a four star restaurant for food.
Spoils the staying experience

Sunshine bungalows. A place that turns Gold in the morning and located over looking a valley! The place is consists of antique furniture and the finest of fittings in the region! I just felt like I lived in Scotland for a weekend! Highly recommend Sunshine bungalows to everyone. And special mention to the person in charge there, he cooks the best meals! I didn't want to visit a restaurant during my stay! 😃 Would rate it 10/10.

Brilliant stay, the place was always clean, the staff is very efficient, warm, and welcoming.
The house is in the quieter parts of town, and has a lovely garden and a stupendous scenic view. They have an adorably sized activity room which keeps you rather warm and fuzzy during the cold weathers. All their facilities are spectacular.
One of the best parts of this stay was the deliciously delectable food that the cooks made.
Every meal was absolutely sinful.
Also, they have a DOG! <3
The whole experience was indubitably fabulous, highly recommend.

Few kilometers away from the kotagiri town, this place guarantees an enjoyable stay. The staff are nice to the guests. The property is surrounded by gardens with dazzling rooms. The food is sumptuous especially the morning breakfast. If its not freezing, you can make use of the huts as your lounge.
