hotel garuda in pelling scores highly for its location, food, ambience.the hotel is located at the main cross road of pelling, yet its not at all crowded or congested. all the monasteries and helipad area are equidistant for a walk.all the varieties of food are very tasty. the room i stayed in was PEMA. it has 2 rooms, both with two beds.the bigger room has an amazing view of kanchenjunga from the bed.the other connected smaller room has a balcony overlooking the road and square. the room is tastefully minimal and clean. the hotel started in 1989, and thus has an old world feel to it. i loved the reception and dining areas, with lots of books and photos and mementos.it has got a vibrant bhutia feel to it. tshering ji and sumitra ji are very warm and interactive.
the flip side is the service. the guy who took care of our food orders,JADHAV , messes and confuses the orders all the time. the food takes hell lot of a time, even if you order 4-5 hours before.eg. one extra glass of plain milk took 30 mins during breakfast.
but one can overlook that problem for everything else that the hotel provides. there are other eating options galore close by.

I am strange to see some negative remarks about this hotel. i stayed there on 27th and 28th of Dec. 2014. I stayed in PEMA room and can assure you cannot find better hotel in this rate in pelling. Location, cleanliness, staff and proprietor behaviour is unquestionable unless you make small issues big one. They were very soft spoken, helpful. We got up in the morning, removed the curtains and saw the awesome view of Mt. Kanchanzonga. The ambiance of the reception is quite amazing and feels like as if we are within our own home. Though the food is quite costly, it is obvious in tourist place. To be honest, they provided me a suite room in the rate of deluxe room. What else you can ask for.

This is one of the worst place to stay, We were given a normal room(My Travel agent to blame). the sheets were stinking and so was the room, to add to our problems there was huge gap in the window making the room colder. The power was out in the morning and there were no other option to get hot water. The hotel was out of sheets and blankets to even replace the dirty one's that were provided to us.

The front desk lady was very rude, next day the owner came in and sorted things out for us. He was courteous and good. The first day of stay was a nightmare. The super deluxe upgrade was given to us for free. they were quite good. But would not recommend this place to any one..

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in October 2012 in ‘Nima’ room with my family (2 Adults + 2 Children). This room offers the best view of Mount Kanchenjunga. No doubt.

This hotel is one of the best in Upper Pelling run by a local educated family. They are warm, well behaved and helpful people. All the stuff members are courteous and try their best to serve you better. Specially the man called ‘Krishna’. They server good food; hot and freshly prepared. If you are not looking for a resort; this is the place you should be in Pelling.

Some Tips:
=================
1. While ordering for food; ask the waiter what is available than looking at the menu card. All the items in menu card are not available. If you have visited in mountains; you already know this as resource is scarce there. Also order well in advance. Like order for Lunch after breakfast and evening snacks after lunch. Otherwise waiting time could be more than you have expected.

2. In case of sightseeing book your car well in advance. There are plenty of travel agents in Pelling. Booking through ‘Krishna’ is also a good option. In that case he himself does the follow-up.

3. You don’t need to book car for half day local sightseeing. You can do that by taking a walk (We did that).

4. This hotel doesn’t have Bengali Cook. So don’t expect Bengali style food. If this is your requirements; there are plenty of other hotels. They do server very good Tibetan food.

The hotel is a very good option in Upper Peelling with wonderful view of Kanchenjunga from the rooms with view. The rooms are quite cheap but surprisingly clean. The food was also good. They always asked for 30-45 mins to serve your order as they made everything after you order and so you know that the food is fresh. The rooms had a very good feel and were spacious.

We are family of 4 adults( including senior citizen and handicap person) and Mr. Bhutia gave us best 4 bedded room(Norbhu). We stayed from 1-3 April 2017. Room was very huge and spacious..it had balcony on one side and on other side we could view Mt.Kachenjunga from our bed.
Service n staff were so sweet n good.Almost home stay experience.
Recommend for senior citizen as not on slope.
Mr.Bhutia even arranged for us Pelling day tour and car for Gangtok.
Food is nice and reasonable.
Best room with best view at reasonable amount☺

Stayed in the wonderful Dechen room (900r per night). View of Kanchendzonga from window (weather permitting).

Lovely spacious wood lined room with attached bathroom (excellent shower & hot water 24/7) & cable TV. Balcony with table & chairs with the same wonderful view.

The great view was a highlight. And I would highly recommend this room.

Food in the restaurant was delicious but the service was a bit slow (thus a 4/5 rating).

Awesome view from the top floor suite, The entire range could be seen during sunrise.Food was hygienic, tasty .A little limited in choice but good.Service was quick friendly. The bell boys were very helpful.Rooms are simple but the views make up for it.The first day we had gotten the road facing first floor rooms .But the flowers make up for the lack of mountain view.Nice couple who own the place.Always have fresh fruits in the lobby for guests to buy if needed.I travelled with family 4 adults and a with year old.Extra amnesties for baby.Like boiling baby bottles were done wet either no grumble.Wonderful place , wonderful hospitality. But don't expect any frills.

We had the worst meal experience in Garuda ..We were kept waiting for over two hours on a rainy day with absolutely no forthcoming intent of being helpful.
They refused to serve even 10% off their so called exhaustive menu card.
Pls dont go there,if you are in a group of more than two, they cant manage it.
Average food and not worth your time or money.

Booked one view room with veranda. Had a great view of the mountains next morning from inside the room. Running hot and cold water helps in winter season.

Staffs are very helpful. Very clean and spacious. The idea of having dining table in each floor is very good.

Overall nice experience.

1. Economy and Standard rooms don't always guarantee good views. I'd rather suggest you to contact Mr. Bhutia (Manager) directly, have a conversation and book accordingly. He is a cordial man. No.: 09733076484. 2. I wouldn't suggest you to go for the meal plan as I personally didn't find the food extraordinary. There are a few restaurants in upper Pelling who serve good food. Kabur restaurant is 1min walk from Garuda. Though the food-situation will have to be managed on spot as per need. Happy journey.
