Magpie chestnut Retreat & Resort is a nice and cozy place to stay in Pelling, Sikkim...We stayed there for 2 days. Very friendly management staff and other kitchen and house keeping staff too were very helpful, friendly and polite. Mr. Chandra, Ms. Indu, Mr. Udeshya, Ms. Babita, Sujan and everyone else were all very nice. Really had a nice stay and a good experience. Food was also good. Except for the unexpected rains and thick fog we could not view the Kanchenjunga mountain peak (which also disrupted our sight seeing and travel to Namchi too). I loved the dog Lapata who kept coming outside our cottage. Above all the staff had safely kept my friends finger ring which she had misplaced and when asked about it later in the evening, it was handed over to us. Ms. Indu took efforts to even print our flight boarding pass for us.

The hotel was run by manager Mr. Udeshya Gurung and his staff. Commendable that in a post Quarantine situation the Manager has single handedly managed everything with a small staff.
The location is beautiful over looking the valley and the mountains absolutely stunning. The food was really good and ofcourse freshly made
I loved my time there

I really want to again praise the Manger Udeshya young guy managing a hotel on his own . Cheers

I visited pelling with my wife and kid. The approach road to this hotel is in bad shape. However you won't regret it after reaching this beautiful resort. After all there is no point staying close to main road/market in a hotel which doesn't offer magnificent view of kanchanjungha.
The hotel has got good private parking facility unlike many others which generally is an issue at hill stations. The hotel staff specially "Uddeshya" was generous enough to offer us the best possible cottage room as we were first one to check in on that day and rest all cottage rooms were not yet occupied. The room balcony opens a mesmerizing view of Mt kanchenjungha. The one man army "Wangden" cheerfully takes care of all your house keeping stuff.
The breakfast spread is not lavish but delicious and basic. After all the luxury of buffet spread at urban hotels should not be expected at pelling. The market is little far from hotel , but you can always ask reception staff to arrange a taxi.
Moreover it's better to book it through hotel reservations. You might get some good deals.
Overall for me the highlight of pelling was this calm, peaceful and scenic stay at Magpie chestnut retreat.

I stayed with my family for 2 nights and 3 days at the Cottages in Magpie Chestnut
We paid 36K for two days inclusive of the pathetic breakfast they served.
The rooms are below average. Linen was not clean. The pillows had moulds.

We ordered lunch which was extremely salty and the curry was burnt . The food was replaced three times by the kitchen staff and was still not edible. We made the manager taste the food and he agreed that it's salty and burnt but did nothing to improve.
Not to forget we were charged for the food despite it not being edible at all.

The chef refused to meet us in person despite several calls. Dinner was again full of salt
The next day at the breakfast table we were again given the same treatment.
They served the left over Dum Aloo and Plain parathas and upma and pasta which was half cooked.
We didn't eat any other meal at the property because of the sheer mismanagement and denial of the staff to make any improvement
Despite paying for the breakfast we didn't eat it the next day and left the property.
I am attaching the pictures of the property and don't recommend this to anyone in future. They are just taking advantage of the location and charging exorbitant amount and zero service.

I would not recommend this place to anyone, the hotel was terrible in services. We booked an opulent room with an extra bed, visited the place on 29th Dec 2019. The room's bed had a used bed sheet over it with human hairs spread all over the pillows and the bed sheet. When we tried to call the reception, we found that the phone supply was cut, the reception was locked. We had to roam around to find a housekeeping staff to change the bedsheet at 11 in the night at almost freezing temperatures. They replied they did not have a spare bed sheet for a double bed, when asked for a blanket instead to spread over the dirty bedsheet, the person went to check and never came back. we waited till around 12 in the night, and when nobody came , removed the bedsheet and had to sleep like that.
In the morning also, nobody including their manager deepak even cared to check or even apologise for the problem. only the hotel location is good but that does not work when everything else is extremely bad. The food was also tasteless. Please don't waste your money by booking this hotel.

We stayed at this resort during out recent trip to Pelling. This is an absolutely beautiful property and very well maintained. Rooms are spacious with clean bed linens, spotless bathroom and a room heater (Note; I am very paticular about the cleanliess of the bathroom and bed linen) . Each room has a balcony which gives spendid view of the landscape and the mighty kanchanjengha. Yes, the kanchanjengha range is clearly visible from this resort. We booked the attic room. Our stay was delightful. The hotel staffs are polite and welcomed us warmly. The hotel offered tastey food, though the choice was limited ( no complain for that). It this resort is about 5kms away from the main pelling town at a hill top which gives an unhindered view of the nature. This place is now added to our list of favourites and we will definitely stay at this resort next time we visit Pelling again.

I visited this hotel with my family for 2 nights. This is a very small property of 13 rooms and cottages which are spacious and have a nice view.
Staff is also friendly. One need to have breakfast and dinner in hotel only as there is nothing nearby. Worst part is the food. Chef has no idea how to cater to all guests staying in the hotel. My experience with this hotel only gets bad because I didn't relished food at all. We all only had it to survive.

The view from the room was splendid. We stayed from 11 - 14 March and we were very happy with kind of service provided. Staff was friendly, food was good. Buffet breakfast had a lot of choices. Also the room and bathroom were both neat and clean. Hotel manager was very friendly.

Magpie has 2 properties in Pelling. I was more inclined towards Chestnut… Rooms are with balcony and without balcony and both can give you a beautiful view of the mighty Kanchenjunga range… checkin was very smooth and they have complimentary room heaters to keep you warm at lower temperatures. My stay had breakfast and dinner both included and I found the dinner spread selection better than the breakfast. Location and wooden interiors you will fall in love with

I visited Pelling in August (1st week) 2021 with my family and had stayed at this property and stayed for 5 days. The resort is fantastic, a little heaven on earth. It is surrounded by forest on one side and the magnificent view of the mountain on the other. We were lucky to snap the views of Kanchanjanga early morning each day. One would see different sheds of green all across the property, very carefully maintained. Foods were delicious. A perfect stay for vacation with family or even solo.
The stay was made memorable by the staffs, especially to name Mr. Sagar and Ms. Indu, who manages the property with love, commitment and a lot of passion, always ready to keep the promise.
A big thanks to all the staffs for doing everything necessary.
I am sure I will come back again here very soon.

Hi. You can either book Magpie Chestnut online, or you may even call the hotel and book directly. Good part is that you may get some discount over the online price if you call them directly.however, that depends on deman-supply prevailing today.
