We stayed at the Modern Residency, Lachung during our trip to Sikkim and it was easily the best among the hotels at Gangtok, Lachen or Darjeeling. Between the scenic view from the hotel and the hospitality, we were bowled over.
There was a power outage when we landed there and before we could settle down in our rooms, hot water was arranged. Chai was served with hot pakoras and the dinner spread was good - complete with dessert. They also provided rental snow gear and also have a cute little gift shop within their premises. Though we stayed just for a night, the place left a lasting impression on us. Will definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Lachung.

The hotel has cozy attic type rooms which gives you all the ambience you need to experience living in small cities amidst the mountains.
As we reached, we asked if we can get an upgrade and since they had the room available they happily upgraded the room for us. Despite being at a small place like lachung, they offer a decent menu including good number of food options for vegetarians as well as non vegetarians.
Though their was a power cut in the area for some time during our stay, they provided us all the necessary facilities and generator provided the supply.
The view of mountain from the big windows of this room in morning is unparalleled.
The lobby and other common areas were also well lit and clean.
Worth for money and personally recommend u to try their coffee for sure.
We are thankful to this property owner and our travel agent mr. Pempa Bhutia for making our honeymoon comfortable and memorable by providing us such a beautiful stay.

So our travel agent had arranged us a one day stay at Taagsing Retreat aka Modern Residency in Lachung North Sikkim. We reached this hotel in the afternoon after travelling 112 Km from Gangtok. Mind you city dwellers; 112 Km in Mountain roads is no joke.
Anyways, we were greeted by very hospitable staff Avi and Doma and Palden. Even in a village remote like Lachung , they provided us with a sumptuous Indian dinner and lunch.
We went in midst of December where the temperature was touching 6 degree Celsius. The staff was kind enough to provide us two hot water bags to keep near our feet. Big relief that was !
And we left for Yumthang Valley next day early morning at 06:00 am. Avi had packed us Breakfast for our day trip.
Although the weather was too extreme for us especially when we come from a place like Chennai , the people at Modern Residency made us feel home.

We stayed here for one night in December. The property looks more like a monastery from the outside. The rooms are small and decent enough for a nights stay. When we stayed unfortunately there was no power however we still had a wonderful time. The staff are absolutely courteous and helpful all times, they set us up the room heater as we were all feeling terribly cold riding in the rain and snow.
The food was specially served for us at the table in reception area and though the power was not there, we still managed to enjoy a quiet candle light dinner with our group.
Thank you team for making our stay a memorable one
Please note there are no room heaters here so be prepared to take the chill of the nights

It's made like a heritage hotel. Serves veg food. Rooms are a bit small but really clean. The staff is just awesome. They are very polite and hard working. During our stay, the entire north sikiim had a major power cut. But the staff would carry buckets of hot water heated on wood fire up the stairs to each room. They are doing a really good job under such circumstances. We had moved here after checking out from another hotel within 2 hours as that hotel was dirty.

The hotel is beautifully designed and good atmosphere.Staff behaviour is very polite.More importantly foods are all veg but excellent. Room is also good. Some charges are high like I have ordered extra 2 cup of tea and it costs 80 rupees.
Drivers accomodation is not there. It is a minus point of this hotel.

I visited this property in August vacation and it was an unforgettable experience for me. The hotel staff was courteous and helpful in every possible way. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were neat and clean. Coming to food quality, it was delicious. The chefs are fantabulous. The manager allowed us late check out as well.
Will definitely check in again.
Special mention to Titus Rai for recommending me Modern Residency Lachung.

yes they had a geyser and the staff offered extra hot water if the geyser ran out of it.
