We stayed here as part of a trip around some of India's key sites. The hotel is a wonderful glimpse of India's colourful history. Our room was huge with the bathroom down a corridor. There was no tv which we quite enjoyed but some may find a problem. The grounds and pool are stunning and we celebrated St Valentines Day...

Walked from our Haveli through Mandawa to this hotel for a meal. The approach in the evening dusk is magical when you enter the courtyard. That evening there was only a buffet as they find it easier dealing with large parties of oversees tourist residents. However it was good and the ambience in the dining area was enjoyable. The staff...

The whole old town is an experience with unoccupied, grand, old havelis by the dozen. You arrive at the castle by driving through a guarded gate into a sandy courtyard. The building is owned by two brothers, one of whom converted his share into the hotel and the other seems to have just walked away! Not luxurious but tremendously authentic...

We were visiting the Shekawati region of Rajasthan to see the painted hawelis and stopped at Mamdawa. The castle hotel is in a fort and worth visiting to see the artefacts on display. There is a cover charge for the visit which entitles you to a drink at the cafe

The Castle Mandawa is an old castle turned into a hotel. A very large structure with rooms located on various levels. Long stone corridors, marble arches, steep staircases, terraces, very thick walls, marble canopies, stone ramparts and a real cannon in the lawn give a feel of living like royalty. The staff dresses up in old Rajput royal style with...

Place has lots of interest but rooms aren't very comfortable or clean. Food is mediocre at best. There are a lot of steep stairs to get everywhere and virtually no banisters. Linens were gray (and not on purpose); bed was terrible. Room was large but no comfortable chairs.

Our room was large but a little tired. We ate at the hotel and the waiter was delightful. The food was fine ( after 2 weeks of curry our palate was a little jaded) . Most of these heritage hotels are an experience we enjoy but the bathrooms can be jaded. This was no exception and the water was cold...

Overall good place to stay (due to all that heritage and culturally rich history) but, not so good food topped with average services and greedy inexperienced staff. One might be even forced to buy water even if RO water is available for free !!! Lack of warm hospitality (especially for domestic tourists) !!!

The hotel is a mix of beautiful and "unique". On the down side, the shower in our room was so tiny it was impossible for anyone but a child to shower. It was also possible to accidentally turn the hot water off!! I did it!! On the plus side, the public rooms lovely and the food and staff In the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Like many historic homes, Castle Mandawa is a curious mixture of the old and the new. Medieval turreted towers, palanquin-roofed balconies, blend with modern comforts in old-world rooms. Family portraits, antique cannons and arms add to the charm of this family-run resort where tradition still runs strong. Today, the world comes to this storybook town to see its colourful frescoes on every subject under the sun, that is, ranging from the religious to the erotic; from copies of popular English prints to witty social satire, rendered in the inimitable style of the local artist. And perhaps the best place to discover the legacy of Shekhawati is from the comfort of Castle Mandawa, a fortress, now converted into a luxurious heritage hotel. Explore Castle Mandawa at your own pace. Spend a leisurely hour over a drink in the colonial verandah that accommodates the bar, or relax in the cosy comfort of the Diwankhana, the formal drawing room decorated with family portraits and an array of antique armour. ... more   less
