Having stayed in Delhi for two nights I travelled to Phagwara, Punjab. My uncle who lives locally had booked my family including 3 children into the Grand Ambasador - and I was worried. I had for many years stayed at the Cabbana Resort and Spa in Phagwara at a cost of near 80 - 100 pounds per night. My booking was for 7 nights including breakfast, we had an interconnecting room. Upon arrival the hotel stands at odds as it is quite a busy area by the railway station and there is limited parking unlike other large resort hotels. However that is where the oddity stops. This is a clean, purposeful hotel, with great service and in room dining options that do not break the bank, and the food is spot on. There is western, Indian and Chinese food to opt for and the staff are attentive. The en suite was clean, with a glass enclosure, the shower head was limescale free and loo roll replenished daily and complimentary mineral water. Minibar had all western treats (crisps, chocolates and drinks), free Wi-Fi and a led tv with local channels. Do not get me wrong it is not a leading hotel of the world 5 star but when you pay 32 pound per night it punches way above its weight. For any NRI who wants access to shopping, banking and the surrounding villages to visit family then this is a great place. Only downside was loud music till midnight but hey it was around Christmas and New Year. We enjoyed the roof too party for new years and met many families there and one was staying for 6 weeks for a wedding. Spot on.

I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service at this hotel. When you look at the location on the internet, it looks like it is located in a not so pleasant area, which might turn you off from booking it. We took a chance and stayed here and was glad we did.
Starting with the service. Everyone in the hotel from the security guards, to door men, bell service, reception, house keeping were very nice and helpful. Even when there was a language barrier, since I dont speak the native language, we were still able to figure out a way to communicate. Although there are a few workers in the hotel who speak English, so nothing to worry there.
The onsite restaurant is really good. We had dinner there every night, tried different meals and everything was delicious. The chef, who we got to meet was very accommodating when we asked for something special that was not on the dinner menu. The restaurant staff was great, all the waiters were great as well. The restaurant manager (Mr. Kumar) was wonderful and would check on us to make sure we were taken care of.
The rooms were clean and house keeping was provided daily. Free bottle of water provided daily. The one concern is that there was a slight smell in the bathroom drainage. It will typically smell when you flush the toilet and then it goes away. I would ask the hotel to look into that. This is for room 307. The other concern is that on one of the night we were there, there was a group having a party in the hotel. The party was in one of the rooms across from 307 and they partied past 4am in the morning, which made it difficult to sleep with all the noise from the music, people talking loud and the continual opening and closing of doors all night long. Would be nice if guests consider the wellbeing of fellow guests and the hotel staff should check on those types of activities. They provide laundry services. Our laundry was picked up before 9am and delivered back by 3pm. The laundry was washed and pressed and for a reasonable amount.
I started this review mentioning the location of the hotel. The location would not be considered great or very clean, but it is in a safe area. We walked around the area at night and felt safe. Overall, I was happy with the hotel. I think for the low price, it was pretty good value for the money. I would consider staying there on my next visit to the area. Even if you are not staying at this hotel, I would recommend their restaurant for dinner. It is that good.

I came to Phagwara for 2 reasons. Firstly to close down my late father's bank account at The Punjab National Bank and to open a new account for myself. I also came to visit my family at a village called Jadli near Nawanshar which is about 45 minutes to 1 hour drive away. We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. If I had not stayed at The Grand Ambassador I would not have been able to get the banking done in time. The Punjab National Bank are a very difficult and bureacratic bank! Rajat on the front desk has excellent English and could not have been more helpful. He is quick thinking and always came up with a solution and always with a smile. He managed with the help of Simranjeet to sort out many issues and advise on some things that we didn't understand. I am very grateful to Rajat. The restaurant is really good. We ate there many times. The Punjabi Fish Curry was so good that I asked to see the chef so that he could explain how it was made. The young lady who served us ( I can't remember her name) in the restaurant was very good, kind and polite. I finished most evenings in the excellent bar where Matbar made brilliant Margharitas, they were as good as you would find in any top London hotel. My husband is English and everyone was very kind to him and took extra care that he was welcome. The hotel organised cars multiple times to the village near Nawanshar at pre-arranged good prices. The driver would wait for as many hours as we needed so that he could bring us back. It is customary if you do this to make sure that the driver is cared for and has refreshments and food at your destination in the village. The hotel is very well appointed for banking and shopping. You can get a Tuk Tuk outside the hotel easily as the hotel is by the train station. It is a short work to the banks and market which are on the other side of the GT road. It is very safe and we were not hassled. Crossing the road isn't easy but you get used to it. The market is good, has clothes shops, jewelry shops, shoe shops and was a fun place to spend an afternoon or 2. The hotel has wifi, is clean and comfortable and great value for what you get. The best feature of this hotel is the staff. Everyone could not have been more pleasnat and helpful. We left very happy and would certainly come again.

The Grand Ambassador is well located, close to the railway station, bus terminal, shops and main National road. When we arrived, the staff parked our car in a safe secure location. The entrance to amazing and not what you would expect from Phagwara. Very high standard. The bar was well stocked with a wide range of beers and spirits. The bar staff very friendly and attentive. The Restaurant was very pleasant again with great staff who interact with the bar staff. Very good choice of dishes and very tasty. Would definately go again with friends, family and business.

I’ve been coming to Phagwara for over 40 years and have seen the transformation over this time. The grand ambassador hotel is a much needed addition to this city. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and managed to experience it for the first time. My visit was for a drink and snack in the evening. When sitting in the terrace bar, it’s hard to believe you are in Phagwara! Lovely setting indeed, highly recommended in the evening. They’ve a huge screen showing live sports events. Good variety of food and drink, very reasonably priced.

Visited India after 16 years and decided to stay in the hotel. We chose the Grand Ambassador based on the reviews and were not disappointed. It was a great hotel, staff were very helpful and polite. Bedrooms were very clean and tidy and serviced every day. The hotel reception manger Rajant was very helpful and is an asset to the hotel. Will definitely be going back
