Detailed Reviews
The most luxurious yet most rustic combination of hospitality in real rural Punjab. Gracious hosts Harki and Jasveen have a fabulous place nestled in the heart of a beautiful citrus orchard offering exquisite cuisine and super hospitality. It's going to be a regular place for us to visit in time to come.

Right from the very gracious hosts, their two delightful sons, their Labrador and the staff - Citrus county makes your holiday what it should be. A must see for all of us 'city folks'. One gets to see rural Punjab, a citrus farm, a village - doing it all while be pampered by the luxury the property offers.

As part of planning our tour of India, my wife found Citrus County on tripadvisor and having read the reviews we decided to book for 7 nights. There were 4 adults and two children (both 6) in our party and we had arranged to meet some friends (another 10people) there for two nights who were in Punjab for a family wedding. Hoshiarpur was the last leg of our journey having visited Mumbai, Jaipur, Agra, Delhi and Amritsar already.
From the moment we turned off the main road and drove along side the citrus orchard we knew we had found somewhere special. Having found the gateway into the residency we were greeted by a big warm smile and welcome one expects from old friends. As we walked around to the main area we saw a very large lawn with several large semi permanent tents positioned in a semi circle on the perimeter. These were the kind of tents you would see on safari in West Africa, with a large double bed, cupboard space, separate bathroom and toilet with hot running water, kitted out with electricity and a heater and A/C unit.
Harkirat, his family and all the staff were the ultimate hosts, ensuring that whatever needs we had were satisfied, giving advice on the local area as well as where to shop and visit. Harkirat is very hands on and took great pride in showcasing his cooking skills (by torchlight!) producing a chicken curry to die for and a saroon da saag (mustard leaf saag) that was just out of this world. In fact, all the dishes we were served were made fresh and were extremely good, not surprising since they gave Rick Stein a few lessons whilst he resided here during the filming of his around India series. Harkirat's team were very accommodating and were happy to cook any dish we fancied.
We were treated as family during our stay and Harkirat even took time out to take us out for an afternoon on a wild boar safari up in the foothills of the Himalayas where we saw a variety of wildlife even the illusive Blue Bull. Also, it was a pleasure spending time with his wife and son whom my daughters adored, as well as his parents who were visiting from Chandighar.
Having stayed here for a week gave us a great appreciation of how Harkirat has developed a mellow, relaxed and old style colonial atmosphere at Citrus County, which was in stark contrast to ANY of the rest of India that we experienced.
Well done Harkirat and if we ever visit the Punjab again we will be sure to return! Definitely a 5*plus resort.

What a lovely experience! everything was wonderful - the place, the food, the room and most of all the outstanding hospitality of the owner and his family. Harkirat went out of his way to ensure that we experienced it all---the trip to Sri Anandpur sahib , his brother"s book launch in Chandigarh, the after party...we started feeling as if we were a part of the family ......the staff is extremely well trained too. A perfect getaway. Highly recommended.....

This was my second visit here and I have to say its quite amazing how much the place has grown in 4 years. The first thing which strikes you is the sheer beauty of the establishment. State of the are tents nestled in amongst manicured plants bordering a huge lawn - for city dwellers its like a little slice of heaven when you first take it in. Run by two lovely people the food and service are excellent. I just wanted to chill and relax with a book but there are numerous activities available for the more adventurously inclined. Overall a five star stay with five star people. Great going Citrus Farms!

This is my first review on TripAdvisor. Whist I travel frequently on holidays and have enjoyed myself, I have never really got around to writing a review. However, our experience (2 families with 3 kids in total) at Citrus County has simply been amazing. The place is wonderful and though we could have picked a better month to go there in (June is fairly hot and muggy), it made no difference because what sets this place apart is the hospitality of the owner, Harkirat. He did everything he could to make us feel very welcome and special. From packing a picnic basket for when we we were going on a local sight seeing trip to making sure a cake was prepared for our friend's birthday and wedding anniversary - it's his big heart that sets this place apart. The food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was excellent and the one advantage of travelling in this hot month was that we had plenty of fresh mangoes from their farm to eat. Absolutely heaven for a mango lover like me. Note this is not a place to come if you want a rushed and hectic sight seeing agenda. But it's the best place for a relaxed holiday. Living in the tents was a nice experience for all of us as these were very comfortable. (How many tents have their own airconditioning and attached toilet!) The pool also helped to cool us off and morning tea under the tent's canopy was just bliss. Spending the evening listening to Harkirat's dad telling us of their family's history was also interesting. The kids enjoyed playing in the lawn, seeing the farm and the company of the two Labradors, Rufus and Simba. One thing is for sure, we will be back to experience this warm hospitality in the cooler months.

We stayed in Citrus county for 2 nights in early June 2013. huge property! Location is great with no noise. perfect for that early morning meditation. The cottage was like a five star marquee tent. It was very clean & equipped with all the necessary basic appliances. Our cottage/tent room opened to lush green garden. Our experience of tractor ride was super fun so was Jungle Safari. its not the best jungles of the world but it was good fun. We had another group of 8 people staying at the time. at night we had gala time meeting new people, drinking, dancing to the abba music and eating indian tandoori bbq. Lastly, Hosts were gracious& hospitable making it overall a fantastic experience. I am sure we will stay again!
Highly recommended.

My first suggestion will be to loosen your belt n dig in to the authentic punjabi treats on offer.
We took the full board & bevereges option for our 2-night stay and found later it was a wise choice. Harkirat & his gracious wife made us feel at home in every way...from tranquil walks in their kinoo orchards...to the cozy comfort of the luxury tents..from chatting with his dad over drinks by the bonfire..to playing with their very naughty son & his 2lovely dogs Rufus-Simba.
Other recommendations -- must try their slow-fire grilled meats at the adjacent poplar plantation; get up early and take a long walk along rustic roads to the river bed; lunch on makki-di-roti & sarson-ka-saag (local food-made like the good ol days)
Overall -- Citrus County is a must-try :)

I didn't know the surprise which awaited me on a overnight trip to visit India Tractors at Hoshairpur . I arrived around 9:30 PM by Shatabadi , the late moonsoon rains added a sense of curiousity to the route and soon I was transported to an absolutely exotic yet homely experience at Citrus County a forty minute drive from Jalandhar / Phugwara station .
Harkirat was ever the gracious host and made sure personally that I was comfortable even at the later hour. The rain at night added to the mystery of the place and finally when I did get the chance to look at the manicured lawns and the greenery early next morning it was breakthtaking in the drizzle .
My only regret is that I had to leave early and could not soak in the experience enough , am sure to return with family soon and try the swizz tents the next time.
