For my wife's 40th birthday,we decided not to celebrate by doing the run-of-the-mill Goa or Dubai holiday with a bunch of friends, but instead booked ourselves a weekend stay at the Citrus County, a Homestay near Hoshiarpur. I was nervous about the quality of our experience especially since Punjab is not particularly known for its Homestays. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! Citrus County is a delightful gem. This charming Homestay, having nine well equipped and comfortable tents, is very well-run by the husband wife team of Harkirat and Jasween. Harkirat, the quentissential gregarious and fun loving Punjabi, organises wonderful experiences that makes your experience truly memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks with Harkirat in his Orchards, where he described in detail, the…
Having enjoyed a 3 day stay just over a week ago, I have to say , this was the highlight of out entire India trip . I was travelling with my elderly father who enjoyed the company of Harkirat's father- recounting precious memories of Patiala while sipping the sweet tangerine juice from the farm . I am missing this juice even now as we were spoiled with some countless times a day . My 14 year old son was in heaven with the tractor ride through the village and farm where we picked and ate heaps more tangerines . Milking the cows , watching Saag being made in the open courtyard and feeding the happy chickens was all part of our wonderful village experience and Harkitat , Anup with the rest of the team couldn't do enough for us . They organised a great driver ,a wonderful local…
We were on a family vacation from 3rd November to 5th November 2018 at Citrus county. We arrived a bit late, having stopped over at Ludhiana for shopping for woollens. All along Harkirat was in touch with us to ensure our well being and that we didn't have any problem navigating our way. Harkirat, Beeya and his entire family n friends including the lovable labbies Simba the Saint and Kaiser the rogue are the perfect company for the citrus county setting. We were welcomed with a bonfire to Ward off the chill. We stayed in the tents which are very comfortable with clean bathrooms and a spacious bedroom. The food is cooked as per your requirement and was delicious. We enjoyed the fresh fruit juices. We went for an early morning walk next day to the citrus orchard laden with…
This very professionally run Farm Stay amongst Citrus orchards in Hoshiarpur district is a treat to be in. The personal attention and care given by the owners make all the difference. The tented accommodation with all modern amenities around the well maintained lawns are very nice and the food is really good. It is value for money.
Our two families received the warmest of welcomes (literally!) with a bonfire and a wonderful dinner. Harkirat, his family and team are great hosts and looked after us like family... our afternoon at their other farm was so memorable. And the fresh orange juice at every meal was a treat! The tents are very spacious and comfortable. Highly recommended :)
We went there in early March this year, a couple of families with young kids. Wanted to get a feel of the countryside, and more importantly get our kids to understand living beyond the city. Right from the start, where we reached at 4 pm, but still had a delicious lunch along with a very gracious host, Harkirat waiting for us. Thumbs up to all the thoughtful experiences (visit to the nearby village, bonfire dinner in the forest, tractor ride, etc.) that made the visit all the more memorable. Add to this, the impromptu potato harvesting that we encountered one afternoon at a close by field, which for us as well as our kids was a unique experience. The quality and thought behind the menu for each meal, meant that even though the cuisine was essentially North Indian, we never…
We were warmly welcomed by our host who insisted on serving a delicious lunch even though it was about 3pm. The lovely garden setting surrounded by tented accommodation was a real oasis from the village surrounding the home which is set in farmland. Our host had many interesting suggestions of things to do including tours of the farms and surrounding countryside. The tents have everything you need for a very comfortable stay and the meals were excellent. When we were there it was wedding season so it can be noisy at times but well worth a visit.
I got to know of this place through a friend who stayed here. We contacted the owner Mr harkirat who himself is a bike enthusiast. We went on a Sunday day trip and around 12.30 pm and you can reach easily through google maps here. The place is spacious and most importantly peaceful with a lot of greenery around. There a decently sized swimming pool in which you can enjoy yourself. The service and the hospitality are amazing and food here is delicious too. We had chicken tikka, malai tikka and tandoori chicken for the snacks which were good. There are cottages if you plan to stay overnight but it is advised to book beforehand. The lunch was also pretty and the kheer in the dessert is amazing. You would definitely want to visit again.
The owner host makes quite sure that you are comfortable and cared for in this charming oasis of fruit trees and flowering borders. A trip by tractor around the estate, followed by a sun downer and dinner + digestif by a log fire makes for the perfect day. The en suite ‘tents’ are well appointed albeit permitting the sounds of the night from dusk ‘til dawn. Recommended
So we are back in citrus county And like good malts the years gone by have added their patina of charm The greenery is more abundant The evening s recital of the homecoming dance of the birds adds to the allure The warmth of the tent in the cold winter night so comforting the verandah awning hidden in the bushes The ever gracious Harkirat now greyed even so distinguished country lord The warm of the hearth in the lounge the superlative quality of cuisine All adds to the event and the place To top it all the midnight sojourn to the forest glimpses fleeting they may be of the wildlife The dam bathed ethereal in silver moonlight the challenge of the barkin deer And how I want to return
