We stayed here for one night, while on our way back from Dalhousie. We were too tired from a long journey and just wanted a decent to crash for the night. Hoshiarpur is a small place and we spent about an hour searching for a hotel, and finally landed at this place after asking some local people. The place looked nice from outside and even reception area was well decorated, so we fell for it.

Pros:
1. Located in the middle of the town

Cons
1. They claim to have central air conditioning, but the room was barely cool.
2. Beds were old, one of my friend got bad rashes
3. Food is average and very costly. On top of that they charged 25% tax, etc. on everything, even overpriced bottled water.
4. No lift
5. Waiters asking for tip after carrying the luggage to/from room was annoying

My son and I stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in November of this year.'

Once again it was a pleasant stay. The hotel has changed quite a lot since I was last year. Previously, I had to walk across to an internet cafe to pick up emails. Now the hotel has Wi-Fi and it does actually work - though it was a bit slow at times. They will try and charge you 300 rupees a day for the Wi-Fi but haggle. I did and got it down to 100 rupees a day :)

The rooms now have western style thick comfy mattresses - previously, they had the thin India style ones. I am cold blooded and had ordered a heater. Also wanted a fridge to keep drinks cold. On my arrival both were in the room and were working. My room was immaculate and I couldn't complain.

The food was quite nice. We always had breakfast in our room. Being boring we always had aloo parothas with dehi - found them to be really yummy.

In the evenings we ate in the restaurant downstairs and found the service very good. On the one time I had a complaint - my Naan hadn't been cooked thoroughly - they apologised profusely and very quickly brought me a replacement. The food was always piping hot - something I always insist on.

They do have a marriage hall downstairs. This year it was very quiet something that disappointed me as I love witching Indian weddings with all the pomp and traditional ceremonies that surround them.

When eating in the restaurant I would always advise that people check their bills and sign them before paying. I did notice - when I got back to the UK - that some dishes had been added to my bill that I had not ordered.

They are now also building rooms downstairs next to the marriage hall. I went inside to have a look at these new rooms and found them on a par with hotels in the UK. The bathrooms were in particular very pleasantly designed with wall to wall times. Next time I shall stay in one of these rooms.

I really enjoyed my trip to India and the Maharaja hotel was the icing on the cake as far as my trip was concerned.

Overall ros are well lot and spacious and the location of hotel is perfectly close to major shopping joints and bus terminals.
But the are a couple of points which need to be addressed.
1) No security camera in the hotel allows misuse and is a safety concern for the guests
2) the breakfast is pathetic with no improvisation on menu options
3) bathrooms were quite often found with coakdroaches
4) bar is so dingy you don't want to sit and enjoy anything there
5) mostly the hotel is used as a wedding place so forget sound sleep

Worst place ever seen. Hotel room was not properly clean and their staff was also rude. Further no complementary water bottles or any ting was there. Hotel breakfast was almost finished at 09:30 am when I had reached. Not much variety in food. In one of my rooms instead of room ac newspaper was fixed to cover space. Wall clock was not working. I had booked 3 rooms. One of them was not having bath tubs which reflect a lower category room was given despite charging for higher category.

I, along with my family and some relatives, went from USA to Hoshiarpur attend the wedding reception on January 6, 2013 of one of our relatives in this hotel. The banquet hall looked quite impressive. The service was also good in the beginning. However we noticed the hygiene no where in sight. The waiters were servicing snacks, ice and other eatable stuff with their bare hands. Most embarrassing was their requesting for money from guests whenever they brought any eatables or drinks. Some of my relatives felt very frustrated. I was told that this is their very common practice and they request money or tips routinely. I have been to many countries in the world starting from very poor countries in Africa, South America, Asia and the most developed countries in Europe and North America, I have not been embarrassed by any waiters or serving staff in a hotel or restaurant. This is true in India as well as I have been to many reputed hotels in Delhi. This kind of requests from hotel waiters, I will rather call it “begging”, is not only spoiling the name of this hotel but also the India as a whole. I feel that the hotel management needs to look into it and provide proper training to its service staff. It is for a guest to give tips voluntarily if he so wishes. And my advice to all those who plan to stay in this hotel or attend to any functions there, keep this in mind so that you don't face a situation of embarrassment there in this hotel

You don't get much of a choice if you want a hotel to stay in Hoshiarpur, but of the 3 this one is the best. The hotel is clean but the decor is dated. It is no way upto a standard you would expect from a British hotel but this is India. All the floors are marble - looks good but soon becomes very slippery so care needs to taken within rooms. The location is excellent with a cyber cafe and doctor across the road. Most major banks (with ATMs) are situated within a 5 minute walk. The hotel has a very good restaurant and it was really good to eat there in the evenings. Many of the times it was not open for breakfast in the morning as the guy doing the breakfast had not bothered to turn up. Sleeping can sometimes be a problem as there are always weddings on and music is played till 23:00 at nights - not that that bothered me. One good thing that I really enjoyed was that whenever the electricity went - and it does quite regularly - then the hotel very quickly switched on it's own generator. I always have found the people friendly - but that may be that I have been staying there for the last 5 years on every trip to India. There is a really good bar in the basement which serves western beers (Fosters, Kingfisher etc) and serves delicious kebabs and tandoori chicken. In summary, good hotel, decent price (rooms around 1800 rupees per night) and very friendly staff.

We had a wedding reception there earlier this year. The place looks lovely, it styled (obviously) with Maharaja type architecture and decor. There is plenty of parking, the site is very large and looks quite nice. The positives, however, stop there. When we first approached the management about booking the venue, we raised a few issues with regards to the hygiene and cleanliness of the main hall / facilties etc. The main hall has an awful stench which is hard to avoid, and although it may have looked nice when first fitted, there has been no upkeep, and it is already starting to look run-down in parts. There are bird droppings around the outside of the building, especially near the front entrance of the hall, which we were assured would be cleaned before the day of the wedding (they weren't!). However, all of this aside, the biggest issue we had was the management. Being from the abroad, we tried to obtain a receipt for the booking/cutlery for the Reception. We were denied one on numerous occasions, once we did get one, it was for less than half the amount we paid. The whole running/managment of the place reeks of corruption. I would heavily advice against bookin this venue for a large event.

This hotel has the best food in the town. No doubt about it. I have stayed there many times.the rooms are reasonable but the toilets need to be updated. The room services are good. The location too is good. There is a lot of space for parking.

Very nice and comfy rooms, was more like staying in a 4 star hotel, staff was extremely helpful and supportive, very near to railway station. 24 hrs security with parking facility. Food was definitely good and enough for 2 persons, only Chinese food not that great.
