Detailed Reviews
The ambiance and the food are superb. For city folks like me, the silence was welcome. One could hear the caller if the person with the mobile is standing at least 15-metres away. Frequently you can hear the langur monkey howling, occasionally even the peacock. Food was top class. But the rooms need cleanliness, its maintenance leaves lot to be desired. Small things are missing. The bathroom door in my cottage was lose, luckily we were a family. The bathroom did not have a hook or rod to hang dry clothes. Roof and wall has too many holes for creepy crawlies to sneak in. They could add a geyser and kill the wait for hot water for bathing. The washbasin was yuck, it was so unclean. The room had a TV but it was only for decorative purpose. Luckily, we did not need a TV. We had booked for four days, even paid the advance but the management had some misunderstanding and requested us to vacate the room because they had double-booked it. We went in winter so weather was pleasant. throughout the day.

Main attraction here is Masai Pathar, ten times bigger than famous Panchgani Table land. View from Pathar & climate on pathar is a lifetime experience. But you have to trek & prepare yourself for out of A/c & ready made bedroom service.Prepare yourself for some kind of inconvenience but it is not troublesome.
The hotel is good , but do not compare it with so called Executive, deluxe standard. Food is also homely & service is not artificial but real gharguti gramin maharashtrain.
You can wander panhala, pavankhind(bajiprabhu sangram), jotiba. Mouth watering Kolhapuri Mutton is available @Pahala , as per pre-order.
You will have Memorable experience out of stereo type routine.

I Travelled to Masai with my Wife. As other reviewers mentioned, you must have a Vehicle to reach the place but Drive thru small road that leads to this place was nice experience, The most colour you see on both sides of road is green, the weather is cool, just shut the car AC off and roll the windows down...
Place is calm that makes you forget all city Noise and Hectic Life
Your Morning alarm is birds chirping..
Plus-
> Accommodation is offered at very reasonable rates where other Hotels in Panhala charge you ridiculous just because it is long weekend.
> Place is on route to Masai Pathar which is a very Beautiful place.
> Veg Food is Basic with Limited options but staff serves it with Smile. We Enjoyed Missal in the breakfast.
Dinner had similar options on both the days. (Thali)
Needs Improvement on Cleanliness of rooms and do some thing to keep Insects and Mice out from the accommodation.
Overall a relaxing experience.

We were two families and were all excited from the photos on the website. Also the contact person was very enthusiastic and positive. But to our disappointment, when we reached the resort at 8 in the night there was just 1person to attend to us, not at all professional, rooms were smelling of moisture with lizards all over and at first glace it did not show comfort. Still we were contemplating on staying on but then insects and creepy crawlies took over and we instantly had to move out of the resort ...within 15 minutes of our reaching there!! Those who are used to trekking and similar experiences may like to stay but those who wish to relax in comfort will not like it.

The Luxury at Masai Resort is ephemeral, as short as its name itself. 5 KM away from Budhwar Peth, with no transportation available. Only perhaps if u hire a rickshaw from Panhala (will cost somewhere about Rs 150-200) or from Kolahpur itself, the walk to the resort can be killing.
Date: 30th Dec 2011 - 1st Jan 2012
Rooms:
- (Standard Rooms) have no AC,
- Toilet has no faucet.
- Room was cleaned in a hurry and balcony up above was dirty.
- No geyser
+ Well spaced room with high ceiling.
+ Cozy with door opening to a valley
Amenities
- None
- Had to ask for both towel and soap.
- TV receiving pathetic with not much option
- Poor room service (no bell, no intercom, no telephone, had to go out every time when there was a need for tea or food, had asked for tea TWICE-Nothing was delivered)
Location:
- 5KM away from Budhwar Peth, with no public transportation available.
- Since it is in remote area, it is bit difficult to ask for direction in Hindi or English. Only Marathi is the preferred language. That does not mean that Hindi doesn't work at all.
Food:
+ Veg thali was good and not much spicy (Rs 100)
+ Including Tea, tasted good.
My Overall View:
Perfect for economical/solo traveler(s) as well as if you are looking for a peaceful time with no sound pollution. During season (e.x new-Year) the standard room costed Rs 1000, else its below Rs 700. You can not expect any lesser then this specially during new year where price shoot upto 3K. The owner also arranged a new year bash with Rs 300 K entry fee. Food was average during the party but once you have a good company, nothing matters.
Ownership has just got changed of this resort and the new owner is humble and understanding, if you have any issues you can speak up to him and he tries to resolve your issue.
If planning for off-season stay or monsoon, just pack you bags with some necessary stuff such as soap shampoo handtowel etc. and Enjoy the place, weather and food.

the resort is at an isolated place and hence book the hotel only if you have a car at your disposal or arrange a transfer from Kolhpaur from the resort. The room has very basic and limited ammenities ( I was unlucky of not even being provided a Lock for the door.) The rooms are clean and the overall ambience of the resort is good.
The food is out of the world and a typcial Maharashtrian food made on chula. In case if you are travelling in a group and understand marathi the resort can arrange for entertainment and pavada which is also extremely good.

This place is just 21 kms from Kolhapur city. It is situated in close vicinity of Fort Panhala & Masai Plateau. Lush greenery surrounds this resort which caters excellent veg/non veg cuisine(Pandhra-Tamda Rassa is a hit) Its a full private destination for a party. Also its very convenient for boarders & trekers. Its an ideal spot for residential family/batch get togethers.

This year after Diwali we decided to have a road trip to Konkan from pune. A stop at Kolhapur was must due to all its historical background. Rather than spending a night at Kolhapur itself we had planned to stay at Masai resort, near Panhala fort.
Masai Plateau is the largest plateau of Asia, and it’s worth visiting. Anytime in the year would be good time, but the preferable would be the winters and just ending rainy seasons, considering the roads. Early morning visit to Masai plateau is must thing and should be in your list if you are visiting here. This plateau and the surrounding is especially famous among bird watchers and lovers, also the photographers in the search of marvellous natural light. If that’s the plan then you are left with no other option than staying at the base of this plateau. Masai resort is actually an ideal place for that (That’s what we thought..!). But the resort is a big flop show. We reached there around 9.30 or so, with prior calling and booking. It was a family trip with 2 elderly persons and 2 kids. The vegetarian food options were limited or I can say we didn’t have any. Had to settle with whatever was offered. Very routine food. Dal-rice, roti etc. There was nothing specially made less spicy for the kids. The food that we kept for ‘just in case’, proven to be ‘that case!’(We had clearly informed and asked for it on phone and while booking on phone.)
The rooms here are constructed beautifully, again a disappointment when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene. We were placed in a cottage with 2 separate sleeping spaces at upstairs and at ground, enough spacious for the family like us, but very shabby and dirty. Same thing for bed-spreads and coverings. All stuff stinky and absolutely not touchable. No measures taken for the in house mosquitoes so we were partying with them! The bed spreads actually had stains and after complaining they just turned it over like out of the sight is out of the mind..!
Bathrooms and toilets were leaking. With no hot water off-course! We actually had to take shower in some other bathrooms, which were not occupied. Food thing repeated for the breakfast, but yes they provided at least with hot meals and two options which was like getting a treat..! all in all total zero marks for hospitality and maintenance!
All of it was healed by the serene beauty, the road leading to the plateau and the plateau itself! Amazing experience of sunrise, birds singing and no other sound. I would advice, please select wisely for the stay, or you can actually ask and stay at the native houses. Instead of spoiling the mood and money at Masai Resort.
