This is a fantastic place, especially in an underserved region. The place is accessible by personal vehicle as well as via bus and small hike. Food is of excellent quality. Note that the food is not fancy and may not meet the expectations of a resort going, a-la-carte / buffet spread, but it is delicious, home-style, true to Malenadu cuisine food without any fanfare. The staff and the property owners Vikram Udupa and his father Raman Udupa are all very friendly. The place has some good games like carrom, table tennis, cricket, badminton etc. Rooms are spacious, clean, well ventilated. I loved the place. We went there on a Sunday morning and found less crowd, most likely the place gets crowded on other days.
This is a must visit property..Our family stayed here during 26th to 28th Dec 2022 , we enjoyed our stay at this property, it was really a good experience , Right from the moment we entered and till the time we checked out, the experience was great. From welcoming and cheerful staffs to the location of the resort, Great location, great place for birding enthusiasts, really pleasant and clean rooms, property owner udupa and staff makes our stay really great, All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. Food is very delicious, they serve veg "satvik" food 3 times along with coffee tea and evening snacks. this was one of the nicest places we stayed in our recent trips. Rooms are very spacious and bathroom are very clean. Five star for the property ..definitely recommended.…
Hai all, This is Santhosh from Karimnagar,Telangana Region. We had been to a trip to visit the Shimoga and Udupi in last week i.e. 11.12.2022 to 16.12.2022. With lots of Doubts regarding the amenities we went into the Farmstay. But the very first step into the farmstay flushed out the all the doubts and worries. The Farmstay was beautiful with lush green forest ambience and is superbly maintained by the property owner Mr.Vikram Udupa. All the Staff at this property were really helpful, friendly and their hospitality is really amazing. Due to my tight scheduled itinerary, we stayed only one day but this Farmstay experience impressed me a lot and i'm sure enough that my next visit to Karnataka will be exclusively for this Barekal farmstay. The rooms were beautiful and named five elements of Vastu like Water,Fire,Earth,Air and Akasha, My little Kids enjoyed a lot in the play area. The Boat ride is hardly few Kilometres away from this Farmstay. SaveHaklu Reservoir,Nagara fort (This fort was built in 16th century by Shivappa Nayaka ),Kodachadri Trekking spot,Hanging Bridge at Nittur, and so many other beautiful locationsa re very nearby for visit. This property is also having a small but worthful museum containing antiques, coins pertaining to Nizam period and even older. In short, "The Barekal farmstay experience was fantastic, peaceful and relaxing"…
Great place for a time off. Great food. Spacious stay in the mid of a jungle. Kids will also enjoy the boating nearby lake. Overall a great experience. Must visit place. Do try to visit and plan stay.

Visited this place in the month of June.Approximately 70 KMs from Shimoga town railway station well connected by roads. Lush greenery everywhere!A beautiful homestay ,the interiors are eye catching. Rooms are large and spacious.Food traditional ,homely and delicious . The place keeps you occupied with their indoor activity options.Special thanks to Ashok, Anil and team amazing hospitality! Enjoyed the farm walk. Thank you Vikram for the wonderful experience and being one of best hosts!Looking forward to many more visits!
My wife and I had a wonderful 5-day stay at Barekal. Mr Vikram and his team were very warm and welcoming during our trip. Ashoka, was always available to meet any requests we had. The food was healthy, hearty and close to nature. We loved the delicious filter coffee and the kashayam the staff provided on cold evenings. The various payasams at the end of the meal were a treat. It was a wonderful surprise when the staff arranged a bonfire dinner for us, not once but twice during our stay. The hotel is about an hour away from Shimoga town, and about an hour and a half from Jog falls, but there are many places to visit close by as well. We were taken on a guided walk around the farm and we visited Nagara Fort, Devagange, Aghoreshwara temple in Ikkeri and several dams. Don't miss the boat ride in the Saravati backwaters. I forget the name of the person who took us on the ride, but it is a wonderful experience. Enquire at the hotel for information about this.…
Very accommodating and kind. We were treated to some great food. Due to COVID we had to change our plans last minute but both Vikram and Ashok made sure that there was nothing compromised in our treatment. About the property, the rooms are very spacious and clean. Very well maintained. There is a lot of space for kids to play and the place is a beauty in the mornings.
Had been to this place in December' 21 with family. Calm Place surrounded by Greenery, Neat Spacious Rooms and Excellent Hospitality!. We visited Sigandur, Lion Safari , Boating etc. during our stay. Had a wonderful relaxing time at the farm with delicious malnad cuisine. We all enjoyed the stay very much. Thanks to Mr. Vikram ( Owner) and Ashok for making our trip worthwhile. Looking forward to visit again!
Easy to reach place , surrounded by lush green foliage. Spacious rooms: various options for casual sports: very helpful and courteous manager (Ashok). Even owner Vikram dropped in to ensure that stay is comfortable. Tasty, simple homely Malnad food available throughout the day. Very good place to stay with family or friends for 3-4 days. Will definitely visit again.
