What makes a homestay experience an unforgettable one ? Warm friendly hosts, welcoming atmosphere and staff, clean and comfortable rooms, cozy bed, tasty nutritious healthy meals, beautiful green surroundings, elegant interiors.........Devangi atithya homestay has all these and many more. The hosts Manudev and Parinita couple are adept at making the guests feel at home, not only by offering excellent standard homestay services , but going beyond it by way of making guests feel special and valued, sharing their stories, family history , showing us their collection of books, letters, photographs and home decor , telling us about their hobbies and interests.
Mr Manudev , son of freedom fighter Devangi Manappa (a close associate of kuvempu) has compiled into a book all the interesting letters written by kuvempu and other wellknown personalities to Devangi Manappa during the freedom movement and others pieces of historical information and photographs about the place and people of Devangi, reading and discussing which made our evenings well spent.
The home stay is very quiet and the surroundings very beautiful with colourful flowers and small statues and other installed objects. The arecanut and coconut plantation can be viewed from the balcony of the room, the attic in the room also offers wonderful views of the area. One can take a morning walk and be recharged by the positive vibes of the place or sit on the porch at night absorbing deep silence, soothing darkness and cool breeze and let the mind and body relax.
Food here is very good and satisfying, made out of fresh ingredients , adding a lot of veggies and sprouts to encourage guiltfree eating !
The rooms are spacious ,clean and well maintained though bathrooms are a bit small compared to the size of the room. The overall maintenance of the homestay can still be improved though it's understandable that supervising maids and workers is not an easy job. Many places around this area can be explored, provided you have your own vehicle as taxis here are very expensive. Overall I would rate this homestay a five star and strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a couple of days in peace away from city hassle.

Had a good experience of homestay @Devangi. Mr Manudev was very hospitable, food was simple (suited us after 3 days of eating out), rooms & compound was nice, enough parking space, dining and sitting area. Added attraction was viewing betelnut/arecanut process. Visited Kavimane and kavi shaila (based on Mr Manudev suggestion) nearby which was not in our itinerary but a pleasant sight.

Fantastic vacation at Devangi Athithya - a homestay hosted by Manudev and Parinitha - absolutely gracious hosts. Greenery all around. Clean and spacious rooms, good food. Lots of sightseeing spots within a 100 km range.

We visited devangi in the early part of jan 2015 and we stayed there for 4 days. We were a group of 15 (with 2 infants and 1 small kid). We had visited Bananki earlier and wanted to try out a new place. We had set a mental benchmark for the quality and hospitality. We were extremely satisfied with the service levels and also the literary enrichment. Details are as under :
Positives :
A) rooms - we took all the rooms (outside the main house) and also one room within the house. The rooms are neat and clean. The attic room is something the kids will like. Little uncomfortable for people who haven't experienced this / who have phobia. The bathrooms are clean and hot water is not an issue
B) food - we were served variety of items and were by and large between good and excellent. We had a good mix of malnad and old Mysore cuisine ...... Would be great if more emphasis is on malnad and other rural Karnataka cuisine.
C) walk around the property - the stretch (2/3 kms radius) is a great place to have early morning walks ......we were taken on a 30 / 45 min walk into the wooded area right behind devangi by Mr Manudev and a black dog (can't recollect the name). The area is really thickly covered and gives the feel of a forest ! The dog was an amazing guide and the walk itself was refreshing. Mr Manu, you should make this activity a regular feature in your offering.
D) history of the devangi family - Mr Manudev and his wife Pranita take pride in their family past and are excellent people to give insights about Kuvempu's life. They showed us a lot of photos, letters exchanged between Kuvempu and Manudev's father, etc. It was very interesting to know about the contribution of freedom fighters of shimoga pre independence. It would be a good program for government and Kuvempu pratishthana (Manudev is one of the trustee) to come up with a cultural tourism tour package involving kuppali, devangi and other places associated with Kuvempu. The essence and relevance of Karnataka's rashtrakavi should reach today's generation also
E) rubber mats production and arecanut dehusking - within the property they manufacture rubber mats. The process starts at around 4.30 am and we went through the entire process from collection of milk to producing the mats. We also get to see the dehusking of arecanuts. For people who have always lived in the city, this is a new experience and welcome change
F) lot of places to do half / full day trip - this time we visited sringeri, jain basadi at kundadri, thirthalli, kuppali and other places
G) the open area in front of the rooms serves as a good place to play games like cricket / shuttle badminton, etc and camp fire was also set up in same area
To be improved :
Nothing that needs to be written about
All in all, this was a trip which we not only enjoyed staying with our great hosts, but it also made us learn more about Kuvempu and also the contribution of devangi family during the freedom struggle. We will definitely visit devangi again !

Stayed here from 24th to 26th Jan 2015 with my wife.
Pros:
1. Rooms are BIG and can accommodate up to 5 ppl per room. The property has atleast 5+ rooms and some of them can be comfortable for a big group on 10+ atleast. There is a small dining area with facility of a driniking water, gas stove, utensils, cutlery and a fridge for the guests.
2. Well maintained rooms and the surrounding. Very spacious courtyard and parking space. Roads leading to homestay and around the places are good and well maintained.
3. No problems with Hot water and electricity. Safe surrounding.
4. Centrally located between koppa and thirthahlli. Also close to Kuppali, Chiballugudde which are around 8 kms away. Easy travel to sringeri, agumbe, kundadri
5. Hosts are friendly and impressive couple. They are atleast 50+ in age but are energetic and enthusiastic about managing the homestay and in general.
6. Food and facilities provided were adequate and tasty.
7. Tatasky connection with good TV.
8. Good furniture inside rooms.
Cons (possible ones):
1. Pricey, probably 10-20% more than other home stay near the areas (based on quick survey from website).
2. Dogs can be noisy during the night times due to stray dogs trespassing the area.
3. Not a big issue but note that the road leading to Chiballugudde is broken for a few meters. I think work is in progress.
