When my travel agent Mr Rajdan suggested this place for two nights at Kaza, I was in two minds. There were not many reviews, altitude is pretty high and a little far from the nearest hospital at Kaza in case of AMS. But then I started doing my research in social media and the more I read the more I was impressed. If you have slightest sense of adventure and prefer peace and solitude to hustle bustle then this is the place for you. I stayed one night at Kaza and then two nights here and had no major problems with AMS. The drive from Kaza to Chicham over the bridge is wonderful, even better is the drive from Chicham to Kyoto and Losar. I have had very good experience with Banjara travels and I was pleased to learn that this property has tie up with them. Practicalities : reaching the place was not difficult at all in May. It is one of the last houses in the small village and the last section is a bit steep. Small car may struggle in the winter. There are various types of rooms so make it clear what type of room you have booked. I was given a standard corner room in the upper floor with wonderful views and some lovely donkeys and cows as neighbours. I was a solo traveler and there was plenty of space for me. I think for a couple space should not be an issue. You should leave the shoes near the entrance to the long corridor and use the slippers provided. If you are hesitant to use other people's slippers just go barefoot or with socks for a few feet. Bed and pillows were fine, had electric blanket. Toilet was small but adequate with plenty of hot water on demand. The eating is typical Spiti style, sitting on the floor in the common area. I am a vegetarian and liked the meals offered very much. Amazing to find such good food in the remote area. Plenty of tea and coffee on offer. Absolutely top marks got to the manager Faizullah and the other staff. Faizullah is ever so helpful and willing to go the extra mile. One of my goals was to see an Ibex but in two days I did not mange to get a decent shot. Some from very far. Dusty, tired and dejected I returned and went straight to the dining area looking for some hot tea. Faizulla asked me, “ Sir, Ibex dekhna hai ?” (Want to see Ibex?). I was gobsmacked and told him, “Is that even a question?” Faizulla then proceed to tell me that while I was away he was scoping the horizon from his kitchen with his binocular and he had spotted a large herd of Ibex not too far from our homestay. Encouragingly the Ibices were moving up the slope while grazing and he was hopeful they would stay in that place for some time. I snatched the binocular from him. Lo and behold, there were the unmistakable scimitar horns, easily visible. So there we went. Faizulla in lead, me following. I was really surprised to see how tolerant the herd was. They could easily spot us but paid no attention and I could get within 30-50 metres. One big box ticked. I'm aware of their tie up with Snow Leopard and one of my friends is going soon to their place on a snow leopard trip. I also hope to go one day. Trust me, I have travelled far and wide and this was truly a wonderful place to stay. Kudos to Mr Mohit Gulati.…
In Chicham, beyond the highest bridge in the world, in the realm of the Snow Leopard, is this hidden gem. The warmth of the rooms, the freshness of the food, even the hot water, is a testimony to the love and effort of the staff and the owner. Every room is a room with a view. Every detail is thought of and taken care of. A truly remarkable place in a truly remarkable place. The food, Spitian and otherwise, was delicious. The rooms were spotless and clean. Mohit, thank you for making our stay so special. Wish we had a few more days to spend at THD. Hoping to be there again.
We stayed at Tethy's den for a day, among all the stays across our Spiti Circuit (including homestay, guesthouses and hotels), Tethy's was the least engaging, impractical, stay we had. The host of the property was almost hidden or not available.. we expected to have conversations with the host similar to other properties.. + We were charged obnoxiously high charges for lunch without informing the charges. 2stars for Faizanul and his hospitality (else would rated 1), rest suggest travellers to explore other places at Chicham
I lead wildlife photography expeditions, and I have been in a couple of places in Kibber earlier. Most of my clients are from outside India, and hence, I always made sure that even the smallest things are taken care of, so I Would write it all down to make sure we dont miss anything... even small things like time for cleaning the room every day. This year, being 2022, I went to Tethys and was pleasantly and unequivocally surprised to see a place which fit my requirement to the last detail. Those large clear glass windows showcasing the beautiful snow covered mountains and also some wildlife like the Red Fox and Ibex, warm and spacious sit-out/eating area, nice and spacious and clean rooms with appropriate heating... it was all heaven sent. I did need to call the resident manager - Faizuallah one evening for lighting the fire as it had died out, but other than that, he made sure my participants and me, are all taken care of, rather pampered, fed with all the best food that you can get in -30DegC as we were there in Jan-Feb for the Snow Leopards, our rooms were regularly cleaned and kept warm. He was also available through the day in case we needed some more coffee, some snacks or something to munch on, and was ever ready to try different cuisines. By far the best pizza, pasta, local Spitian food, and the other common Indian dishes, all were on point; not too spicy and not too bland, just about right. Frankly, Im super impressed with this place, its people and their hospitality. Shoutout to Mohit, who was there through out our trip and made sure we were made to feel at home. All the best!!!…
Stayed: March 2022 Cleanliness: 5/5 Staff: 100/5 Food: 5/5 this was our last stop in Spiti valley and we were ready to accept what ever we got as you cant wish for much during winter in spiti, BUT this place blew our mind it is very aesthetically set up, and the staff especially Faiz are too good to be praised in words. They took care of each and everything we needed and went beyond what was required when 2 in our group fell to altitude sickness. This place is really a gem in Spiti and would strongly suggest everyone doing spiti to stay here at least for a night. You can make this place as home base and take 2-3 days to visit kibber, chicham, Kee, langza etc. they were also sweet enough to send help when one of our expedition vehicles got badly stuck in snow after we checked out. Now that GOLD STANDARD IN CUSTOMER SATISFACTION…
When I first stumbled upon Tethys Himalayan Den on TripAdvisor, it seemed almost too good to be true. But once I reached out to them I was so impressed that I planned our entire Spiti trip though their partner brand banjara trails. Everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Mohit is the most thoughtful & gracious host. He provided us with all the information we needed. Not only we enjoyed his place but the chats and amazing stories he had to share. His passion for mountains is very thoughtfully translated in his home stay & is just perfect! And of-course I have to mention Faizullah who was of great help. He went way beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. And of-course his love for fashion and ever shining personality won our hearts. Rooms were extremely clean and beds super comfortable!!! The views from all the rooms are stunning and my favourite place was where we had our delicious meals. We had a great stay & I can’t wait to go back!!! Thank you and see you soon Mohit!…
The place was great. Had a beautiful view. Rooms were amazing and food was too tasty. The staff was hospitable and kind. It's location in chicham is scenic and breathtaking. Absolutely loved my visit.
I came to know about Tethys from someone earlier this year. And the next thing I know is, I am stalking them on Instagram and drooling over their interiors and the views from the homestay. So glad to have visited the most coveted homestay of Chicham.
A trip to Spiti valley is incomplete without visiting Tethys Himalayan Den in Chicham. From the simplicity of the village town and grandeur views from our cozy and beautiful rooms to the ever smiling helpful host of the homestay (Mohit ), we couldn't have asked for more . Its a must visit for a relaxing, rejuvenating and adventurous experience. The views from the rooms are breathtaking. The staff is friendly and food is on point.
A great place with delicious food. The rooms were amazing and each of them had a top view. Moreover, Mohit’s a v friendly host. He even took us on a trek when we requested. If you’re going to Chicham, do stay at Tethys. 10/10 recommended.
