There is something about the air that changes the mindset at Desert Coursers.... The earthiness of the place and people is infectious and immediately transports us to our real inner being... Shedding away the layers of synthetic urban life. While the primary purpose of our stay was to visit the wild ass sanctuary, this place is a destination in itself. The naturally built bhungas/ cottages keep the interiors cool and pleasant in all seasons. Since there were three of us they had added a cot (khaat) in the room with cotton blankets.... Slept like log. Memory foam mattresses have a long way to go to give this any form of competition. Food is par excellence.. simple local food but full of flavour and texture. The open dining area with decorated clay sofas gives a comunity feel and encourages interaction with fellow guests. The people are warm and will help in every manner possible. Most memorable of all was the interaction with the owner Mr. Dhanraj Malik... Right from time of booking to the actual stay and the safari, his company provided a wealth of information and insights into the region, the people and wildlife. Thanks to his intuitiveness we go sighting of a huge herd of wild asses, short eared owl and other fauna. Leave all your safari formalities in their capable hands. We stayed one night but are surely coming back to this jewel in Gujarat. Note.. it's a shame that the final approach road is through the village and is strewn with plastic due to negligence of local authorities but what awaits at the end is sheer bliss.…
The camp location was a little bit time taker for us to search as we reached there post sunset. Mr. Dhanraj is always on his toes to welcome and make guests comfortable with his warm hospitality. His wife is equally at taking care of guests. They do serve a authentic food for dinner and lunch. The taste is completely like homely food. The huts are designed to get a feel of local houses in kutch. They have clean washrooms and do have 24x7 running hot water. We have done transit stay of of just one night. Actually one full day needs to be given here as the owner provide Safaris which will take you to witness wild life in LROK. The safaris takes minimum 3 hours. Will definitely visit this property again when i come to explore White Rann
We stayed this place it’s really and good place to stay with cottages and rooms with a very good home taste food with good hospitality specially thanks to Dhanraj Ji the owner of the resort taking very good care of the guests and also a friendly staff always happy to help and can also spot good birds around the place Thank you Dhanraj Ji
We stayed here in Dec,'20. Despite the fact that we reached the hotel at almost 1 in the morning (our flight had landed at Ahmedabad quite late), the staff along with the management had stayed full awake to receive us and provide us with an excellent dinner. I have travelled considerably, and there is not a single place that I can think of where I have experienced this. The bhungas where we stayed were basic but quite comfortable. The owner himself took us to get the permit for Little Rann, and you could see the respect he enjoys from the people of the small locality. He is a very interesting and a very very knowledgeable person when it comes to wildlife in the area.
We are travelling on our bike from Rishikesh to south India and decided to make a stop in Zainabad. We feel blessed to have met the whole family and the staff in Desert Coursers. The safaris to the little Rann of Kutch are a must. We enjoyed learning about the animals but even more sharing time with everybody there! Hope to come back soon ✨
I was travelling as part of a small wildlife photography tour which as part of our itinerary were to be visiting the Little Rann of Kutch where we would be staying at Desert Coursers and from the moment we arrived and met Dhanraj you just knew it was going to be a great couple of days,as others have said his passion and knowledge of the local wildlife as well as of the Little Rann is second to none,he is possibly the finest host/owner/guide I have met,a little bit crazy but in a good way!! He has spotters and people out looking for activity for wildlife and sometimes it doesn`t quite pay off but the effort he and his staff put in to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one is second to none.would highly recommend if you are planning a trip to the Little Rann to book Desert Coursers.Comfortable rooms with Mosquito Nets and hot water showers aswell as plenty electric points to charge those laptops and camera batteries.Food was very healthy and well presented in a lovely outdoor communal eating/lounge area with views of Spotted Owlet sitting in a tree next to you.My stay was March 2019…
We have visited visiting Desert Coursers many times over the last 11 years. Each time we love it more.Dhanraj Malik is the best of hosts. Amazingly, he makes time for all his guests. His passion and knowledge of wildlife, shared with his team, means that the safaris are deeply rewarding. But even if you stay in camp. you'll be surrounded by birds. We like the accommodation: simple well-furnished huts with showers with constant hot water and a/c if needed. The food is very good and healthy. One of the joys is meeting other people from all over the world who have discovered Desert Coursers – it is a very special club. Good to know: Dhanraj is a mine of information about what else to see in the area from Mount Abu to the Great Rann, the Sun Temple and how to organise your travelling.…
The experience for me started even before I was there. The booking had some issue and the owner Dhanraj called me to sort it out. He was very helpful in getting this set and also a super host at the resort. The resort itself is quite unique including the way the rooms are structured and the area. The food was great and there is lot of personalised service. The safari was great, our guide was good, we did find some raptors, wild ass and cranes. I was able to make some good pictures at the LRK.
It's been 18 years since I first went there....burst in tears when came the time to leave...and still, nowadays...same old story. Danraj is a man of exception, a truly gently soul and such a great and humble human being....the place, the attention, the service, the environment...always looking forward to go back and always feel like finally arriving home each time I enter the place.
Desert Coursers usp are their safaris. One safari per day is included in the tariff. The first days evening safari took us to the Little Rann. Apart from the stunning brown black stretching into horizon, we got to see the wild ass & visit a salt pan, whére the process of making salt was on. Our driver Ayub Bhai had amazing eyesight and pointed out every bird. The next days morning safari took us to a water body where we saw thousands of flamingos, hundreds of pelicans, cranes, geese & waders, nilgai etc.we spent about 4 hrs there. The next ride - a paid safari, was with Dhanraj at the wheel, we were looking for hyenas. We didnt sight hyneas but saw the various types of topography of the Little Rann. The staff at Desert Coursers were superb. Obliging and helpful. The food was simple & tasty.Dhanraj & his wife were perfect hosts. Our bunga was comfortable, and since 3 of us ladies were travelling & staying together, dhanraj promptly gave us the key to a spare bunga ( rondavel) so we would be comfortable. The bunga, though comfortable, could have done with a few extra hooks in the loo & dressing room. Perhaps if the height of the taps had been a little higher it would have helped. All in all a great & comfortable stay…
