Located in huge complex of fruit orchards, lawns and gardens, the Orchard palace is a wing of the Huzoor palace(the present royal residence) where the ruling family of Gondal entertained personal guests including relatives from other princely states of Gujarat. The 7 doubles are beautifully furnished and have modern tiled bathrooms with western toilet fixtures. The ‘room of miniatures’ is a splendid sitting room with a collection of miniature paintings, brass and antique furniture.

The hotel is a “heritage hotel” and used to serve as a palace. It is located in a large and well-kept garden. The reception is friendly, our room right next to the reception and dining room.
Our room, called “Mango”, consists of a huge living room with a huge bed, a dressing room where there is also a kettle with tea/coffee and a fridge. There is also an AC and a fan. The decoration has stood the test of time. Typical English steel engravings with hunting scenes, old colonial furniture takes you back to colonial times, when local rulers liked to “indulge” in the style of the English. This is also evident in the floor above.
Also our bathroom large dimensions. Our living area with dressing room and bathroom has at least 80 square meters of floor space. There is a problem with charging devices. The sockets are completely jumbled here at about two meters height.
Breakfast is typical and fine. You can also have lunch or dinner here. This is recommended as there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
If you like historic hotels with a bit of flair and a lot of kitsch, you are in very good hands here.

Oh to live royally for a night! Huge rooms, staff who look and act as courtiers and food which is served in style. The facilities could be spruced up a little especially in the washrooms where certain basic amenities are lacking or have not been repaired, viz., soap dish in the shower area etc.

Royal palace in Gondal, small property but great hospitality. Can also visit navlakha palace ( movie ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Padyo’ fame) and river bank palace owned by same royal family. Great collection of antique cars in the same palace. Food is like home made food, and staff is courteous. Rooms need maintenance, bathroom fittings and water flow etc needs to be better and cleaning and hygiene could be better.
Can stay here in way to Gir or Somnath or Dwarka or other places in Saurashtra circuit.
This was my second visit and I like this place for its vibes and hospitality.

We stayed last night in this structure which was once the palace where the maharaja stayed his guests. Currently it hosts tourists in the same rooms, furnished as then. The furnishings are those befitting a princely palace, tastefully mixing Western and Indian styles. The seven rooms of the structure are very comfortable and equipped with everything. The wifi is fast, the television is large, the water is hot. In the park there is the train carriage that the maharaja used to travel and a hangar with the maharaja's cars, who in the meantime had a building built in the park. For dinner and breakfast you can opt for the Indian or international menu. Despite having opted for the international one, we also tasted the Indian one and the same was done by the Indian couple who had chosen the Indian one and tasted ours. The food was all delicious and prepared with care and attention to detail. The service is overall impeccable, characterized by refined and attentive friendliness.

The palace and attached grounds were beautiful, the room we were allotted was huge with high ceilings, antique furniture so typical of heritage properties. The vintage car museum & the Navlakha palace are absolutely worth a visit. There is a scenic garden that provides good photo ops. From the staff, Jeetuji was very helpful.
The thing is that the museum, the palaces etc can all be visited by non residents so you don't really need to stay there. What we stayed there for was the food & the dining experience and both were disappointing. This wasn't even a fraction of what was shown on Curly Tales ( a popular travel vlog ). The write up in Conde Nast should also be taken with a 'pinch of salt' ( forgive the pun ) because the food spread, cutlery used, the overall experience was very ordinary & not worth the price.
The other disconcerting aspect was the attitude - Indifferent with a very visible lack of hospitality...no check on time of arrival / menu options, no welcome drink ( they reserve it only for guests of the king it seems ). There was hardly a smile & everyone ( other than Jeetuji ) made us feel awkward, unwelcomed.
On to the bill - they charge for every bottle of water consumed. Even Taj offers a couple of bottles complimentary in every room! The tea served in breakfast was watery, flavor less and obviously different from the one we paid for separately. I felt shortchanged and am not alone. Some reviewers in the past echoed these thoughts. I had asked for a discount on the food because it wasn't worth the price we paid and in fact we would have been happier to pay more only if the experience was worth it.
To summarise, i WILL NOT recommend staying the night here...visit the palaces and museum and move on. The staff needs to get over their colonial hangover and earn the patronage of their customers!

What a delightful place! Do not miss the exotic organic food from their own farm. The amazing vintage car collection, decor, lifestyle is a trip back in history. The train fitted in with the classy royal pleasures of yesteryears us not to be missed either. What with the peacoks around, just needed the rain clouds to see their full glory.
Just need the WiFi connectivity in the room and satellite TV. Dining room needs the coolness to enjoy the scrumptious food even more.
Excellent staff, professional and easy. Generous service.
Overall, a must visit.

A palace converted into a Resort, a wonderful experience. The management had taken great care while renovating the palace. They have combined ,modern facilities while retaining the palace ambiance as far as possible. Rooms are very spacious with a huge anteroom and toilet.Very good for families with kids.
Great ambiance with Peacocks moving all around. The collection of vintage cars 🚘 is an added attraction. Please don’t miss it. I have never seen such a collection under one roof. All the vehicles are in workable condition and very well maintained. Should be recommended for Geneses book of records .
Food served is excellent with special emphasis on local cuisine. The staff members are very friendly and well behaved.
Keep it up.

When we arrived there was not a soul in sight. When I dared to explore inside after waiting for some time, desk manager Parth who was inside apologised that all staff was busy attending the prince in his diwali party at home. We were kept waiting. Inspite of advance booking they did not bother to make any arrangements for our arrival. No welcome drink. Nothing. One guy who came after 30 mins repeated the same story of party…. No option to take lunch as he said you have to inform in advance…. Lunch or dinner is charged at 850 plus taxes.we did not try. The rooms are big and tastefully decorated. The fan was not working though.
The complimentary breakfast was average. When we asked for more fresh juice, they said we made only one glass per person😂.
The vintage car collection is one of the best… stay only if you want to feel the grandeur of the place…. Else avoid…. Not value for money… and stay if you want to be royally ignored😂

We did not stay at Orchard Palace. But went to see the palaces and had lunch there. We had a wonderful experience at their restaurant. The staff was kind enough to accommodate us though we did not have a prior booking. All dishes were delicious and were informed how the food is prepared in the main palace kitchen under instructions from the Rajmata herself. Staff were very courteous and warm.
There is vintage car collection to see at Orchard palace and Naulakha palace has lots of other collections which can easily take 3 hrs to see. Palaces are closed between 1 to 3 pm for visitors.

One of our best "hotels" ever - it`s a real palace and you can see and feel it. Enormous rooms, common rooms full with precious furniture and objects of art. A walk through the garden and to the car collection is absolutely necessary. The staff declares you everything - even the food for us foreigners!
