Sawai Madhopur Lodge – IHCL SeleQtions is the only heritage retreat amidst the wilderness of Ranthambore, one of India’s most renowned national parks and kingdom of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Spread over 16 lush green acres, it was built in 1930 as a hunting lodge for the Royal Family of Jaipur. Guests are ushered into this glamorous abode, with the promise of jungle adventures and princely legends. The crescent-shaped Art Deco mansion is a treat for period architecture fans, with vibrant colors, geometric lines, chequered floors and verandas. From the Jaipur coat of arms, royal portraits in the rooms and taxidermic wild animals on the walls, every detail evokes a majestic past, with the added luxury of modern amenities. The lush green grounds – home to a 100-year old banyan tree - have a swimming pool, fitness centre, spa, an organic garden and three state-of-the-art conference and banquet venues. The lodge is uniquely positioned to offer an authentic slice of local culture. Gourmands can savour the robust simplicity of khadmurg, a whole chicken smoked for hours in a coal pit, once the staple meal of royal hunting parties. Local musicians enthrall diners on the lush lawns each evening as anecdotes of Queen Elizabeth II & the Duke of Edinburg – former guests at the lodge – circulate. An unforgettable high tea awaits families/couples at Awanki Chowki, a former hunting post now converted into a spectacular dining spot overlooking the forest. The Ranthambore Safari is an opportunity to explore a fascinating forest ecosystem with trails, lakes, pre-historic ruins, ravines and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ranthambore Fort. The resident tigers are diurnal which assures more day sightings of these magnificent beasts than anywhere else in India. Another outstanding experience is a boat safari on the legendary Chambal River, from where guests can safely observe sunbathing gharials (native Indian crocodiles). Sawai Madhopur Lodge offers a safari vacation steeped in royal charm, where legends of adventure and indulgence come alive in a truly splendid setting.

I visited in February 2020 with my family (including two small kids - 5 year old and 2 year old). The hotel is five minutes drive from the railway station and hotel transfers are available on extra cost. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of the way to make us comfortable and fulfill our needs (which were often untimely). Special mention of Mr Babu Lal from restaurant/room service, who made sure that a box of snacks was ready everytime we went for safari or to catch the early morning train. We stayed in deluxe allure suite. The room was spacious and looked upon a sprawling garden with a hammock. The bathroom was huge which is always helpful with little kids. WiFi speed and connection in rooms was very good. We could also connect the amazon fire stick to the Hotel TV and Wifi (which is not possible in many hotels). The restaurant offered limited but delicious north Indian and Rajasthani cuisine along with regular continental numbers. Evenings were very soothing with stellar Rajasthani Folk music.

Strongly recommend the property which has a rich and royal history, glimpses of which can be seen in numerous antiquitous photographs on its walls.

The Vivanta Sawai Madhopur Lodge represents the very best of Taj hospitaliy. The property takes one back in time with its old world charm and immaculate grounds. At the same time it offers the best of modern amenities for wildlife enthusiasts to unwind after an exciting safari. The check-in experience was very smooth and efficient. Mr Gajendra Singh and Robinson at the front desk deserve special thanks for making our entire stay extremely comfortable. I was on a special restricted diet during my stay and I am very grateful to Chef Sanjeev Kr. Suman and Chef Murari who went out of their way to curate all of my meals as per the diet plan. Not only was the food wholesome but also delicious. Their efforts were superbly complemented by the care and attention of the F&B team, especially Deepak Singh, Rajendra Singh, Noman and Karanveer. Their cheerful attitude and personal attention to each and every guest are hallmarks of Taj Group's exceptional hospitality. The security personnel deserve special applause. They were immaculate in systematically recording each guest's entry and exit for the safaris. Their internal communication was impeccable and they ensured that they knew which guests were travelling in which vehicle beforehand. They took special care to ensure that each safari vehicle was stocked with water-bottles and blankets. Their system and coordination is truly commendable and I would heartily recommend that the Taj Group should consider replicating this system at all properties that operate close to wildlife sanctuaries. I look forward to visiting the Vivanta Sawai Madhopur Lodge again soon!

We stayed in this property for 7 nights. It is the same Taj experience whenever we stay with IHCL. The care, comfort and personal attention that we got at your property is unparalleled.

We were traveling with family and friends. Because of holiday season and late reservation by some, few friends were booked at other properties. We never felt like we were staying separately. Tejas (GM) went out of the way to arrange a wonderful get-together for us, which I am sure that all of us will remember.

I have to call out Deepak, who ensured that all of us have a memorable time. He truly was on outstanding host. Our balcony on the Maharani suite (room 2) was converted into a meeting zone every evening.
The dining staff led by Noman ensured that we are properly fed and in the best of health. They checked on our wellbeing every time we met and arranged everything starting from the morning coffee to the late night desserts.

We drove from Kolkata to Sawai Madhopur, stopping at some locations on the way. Sharif at the gate made sure that the car was cleaned and ensured that we carry enough water bottles to keep ourselves hydrated every time we went on a safari drive. You can also trust his team to make sure that you don't leave anything back in the safari vehicles after the drive, when you are tired.

Please do not forget to enquire about the bat colony on the trees along the western boundary of the property; and the cute spotted owlets that nest on the tree beside the main gate.

Nandini, Nityanand and Robin at the reception were very accommodating and always helped out with every request that we made.

Leaving aside the experience and hospitality, you can always count on the safety and hygiene at the property. From the staff wearing masks - to the linens, towels, cleanliness... it was impeccable.

Being spread across a large area of 16 acres and having relatively less number of guest rooms and suites, the property offers a level of privacy to all the guests. The spa was very clean and great experience as always. The pool was very clean and inviting.

Overall we had a great time with family and friends and will definitely come back at the earliest !

We visited Vivanta Sawai Madhopur Lodge for our 20th wedding anniversary. As it was a milestone, we wanted to do something special. Although we are in the midst of Covid season, we did not feel any concern upon our arrival. We were immediately taken to our room and the check in formalities were done there itself. There were hygiene essentials placed at the entrance, key points of the property as well as in our room (gloves, masks, sanitisers). The seating in the dining and lounge areas were socially distanced. The staff all wore masks.

On our anniversary, we were lucky to experience a private dinner on an elegantly decorated machaan, with a specially curated menu designed by the chef.

There were numerous other thoughtful gestures such as providing us water and warm blankets for our early morning safaris, cycles and golf carts to roam around the property, etc.It was a wonderful experience that will stay with us forever.

It is a place that bring back memories of living in rest houses in small towns of India many years ago. The resort has managed to peacefully coexist with nature. Lush green lawns and thoughtfully labelled old trees with fruit bats hanging from many of them and young owls peeping out of a few gives one a sense of bliss.

Indian cuisine is their other strength. The meat and vegetable dishes are equally lip smacking but can’t say the same about a few Asian or Continental dishes we tried. The major problem here is in getting a cup of good coffee and tea .. which is a bare minimum in today’s day and age available even in no star hotels.

The room was luxurious but I don’t understand why they keep their mini bars empty .. a ridiculous step taken by Taj group to control the spread of pandemic. The washrooms were large and reasonably well appointed.

People of the hotel was very friendly and always stepping up to help. Their mail communication however leaves a lot unsaid and creates confusion and delay. I asked several times before the trip whether they have received all the fund sent to them. The answer I received was always vague without numbers and that added to confusion while checking out. Aadhar cards and vaccine certificates were mailed before the trip but still they asked for copies before check in.

It has got a lot going for it but it also needs to fill some important gaps!! I would recommend the place.

Being located just a few kilometers away from the Ranthambore National Park, enjoyed my stay thoroughly at the Sawai Madhopur Lodge.
The place has an old world charm with all the rooms being on one level with long stretches of verandahs. The room where I stayed in was excellent with a sitting area besides the bedroom and to my pleasant surprise there were two bathrooms! The lawns are well kept where one can sit on the tables and chairs laid out and spend a lazy morning/afternoon/evening. Birds such as parakeets and lapwings visit these areas and being surrounded by them bring additional pleasure.
For the health conscious people, a well equipped gym is available and also cycles are kept near the entrance where one can cycle around the property.
The food served was delicious with the mutton dishes being the 'icing on the cake' and cooked to perfection.
All my requests were taken care of and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend an easy time on the property.

As a family with three sons (20, 17 and 15 years old) we had the best time in Sawai Madhopur Lodge. A beautiful historical setting that puts you immediately in the safari vibe with large and light, very clean rooms, beautiful floors, wooden furniture and historical pictures on the wall. Very large garden, well maintained, with beautiful flowers, lots of birds and a nice swimming pool. Really nice to have, especially for our boys, were also the pool table, ping pong table and the volleybal court. The staff is very service oriented and went out of their way to give us the best stay possible. Attending to all of our needs sometimes even before we would think of it with small attentions like cold water bottles before we left for the safari. The food was really great and Chef Sanjeev Suman made the most delicious meals for us. Truly exceptional was when we mentioned that our son would have his birthday the next day. The staff surprised us with a small celebration with traditional music, a freshly baked delightful birthday cake, flowers, balloons and a turban and traditional sword to cut the cake for our son. Also we got a special very delicious birthday dinner and before we left as a memory we got a beautiful picture frame with pictures of the celebration. It was really a big surprise and our son (and we all:)) loved it! Thank you so much to all the staff for our great stay with the exceptional good service and food and especially for putting this unforgettable birthday together that our son will remember all his life!

We stayed at this hotel only for one night while we did safari drives in Ranthambore National Park; it was so comfortable I wish we could have stayed longer. The website does not do this property justice. It is an old hunting lodge that must have been build during the period that England governed India; it feels very British. The service is top notch. The property is an oasis in an otherwise hectic outside town. The rooms were large and comfortable. The restaurant offered a wide selection of delicious food and made great fresh dosa's for breakfast. If you are in this are I can't imagine there is a better choice for lodging.

This is a great resort if you are going for a tiger safari. The booking and reservation experience was a breeze thats to Mr Ajai and Mr Jitendra. They even booked the open gypsy safari for us (please make sure you book a month in advance).

We had booked a triple occupancy room. The room was quite spacious and had a lovely old time feel to it like a bungalow. The room has a backyard and a front porch where you can sit in the morning and enjoy your tea. All rooms are overlooking the central lawns. You can hear the chirping of birds all day long. Manmeet was very helpful in guiding us with the check-in process.

The food at the restaurant is really good. Since we had gone to celebrate my birthday, the staff made it special by decorating our room as well as organizing a special birthday dinner. Special care was taken for preparing our food (no onion, garlic, mushroom) by Chef Murari and his team comprising of Rajendra, Noman, Kunj and Neha.

The lodge has plenty of activities for kids like stargazing, cycling, badminton, table tennis, swimming, etc. The lawns are very big so you can carry a football, cricket set, etc to play. There are hammocks in the lawn area so you can relax if its not too hot outside.

Tips:
1. If you are obsessed with seeing a tiger, you may miss out on the otherwise beautiful jungle and its many creatures.
2. Visiting Ranthambore Fort with a guide is highly recommended. Its a live history lesson for kids.
3. For devotees, darshan of Trinetra Ganesh Ji Mandir is quite an experience. Do not miss.
4. For shopping, there are a lot of handicrafts shops on the road that leads to the fort. Stop for shopping clothes, jewellry, bedsheets, etc

Hello Rahul, For safari booking you can contact booking desk at Taj sawai madhopur lodge (SML), sooner is better as the month in which you are planning is the pick season so getting safari might be a problem, so I advice, plan it now. There are many, plenty in fact private safari booking agents in ranthambore but my experience with Taj SML safaris were unique. They have experienced drivers and guides. Secondly, there are several dining options at Taj SML 4 different venues where you can enjoy your liking of food you prefer. I know through and through about the property as I am visiting since many years and it's my second home. Go enjoy your stay buddy and all the best for your safaries and tiger sighting experience.
