An impulse, a call to Sunando,a spontaneous, serendipitous decision & we were on our way to Tanhau from Pangot. A beautiful drive with varied landscape & breathtking views we were met by 3 lovely dogs as soon as we got out of the jeep. After the initial flurry of dogs, bags & arrival the first thing that hits you is the perfect Silence ! Tanhau is a place to just "Be"..... in harmony with nature , a slower pace of life, stunning views of the two rivers valleys forests & mountains, the constant chirping of birds in the ancient mango trees outside our spacious room, the three gentle placid dogs, Wolfie,Neo & Mojo, simple village folk & their picturesque villages dotting the mountains, the nearby Corbett's hunting lodge although in dismal ruins gives a thrill & stands as a reminder of an earlier time as described in his books. A place where we saw the mountain slopes completely covered with little white flowers ; call it Spring & at the same time discovered the beauty of fall colours in the millons of dry Sal leaves under our feet on our hikes..... Interesting conversations with the very knowledgeable host formed the backbone of our trip, his passion for wildlife & tiger tales kept us enthralled, sitting under the tree in the sun listening to the twitter of birds & watching the dogs play & Dollar( the visiting village dog) flirt was so restful & entertaining. Hats off to Sunando for creating Tanhau on barren, inhospitable mountain slopes so that people like us can enjoy a slice of tranquility. Our constant companions on the long walks, Wolfie (responding to cries of' Kulfi' by the village kids), Neo & the very frisky Dollar through rough, thorny jungle & slippery slopes are the memories we carried back to the city making us smile & yearning to go back !…
Tanhau has given me memories to hold for a lifetime! I would rather call it a home than a homestay. The best part was the delicious home cooked food and the view from our cottage. The property is beautiful and secluded which makes it perfect if you love to be in the lap of nature. We went for a walk to the historical places which you will find in the book “Maneater of Mohan” by Jim Corbett. We also went for a safari and were lucky enough to spot a Leopard. It was an experience which cannot be really described in words. Sunando is a great host and so is his team. They’ll leave no stone unturned in providing the best hospitality. The kids Wolfy, Neo, Bolt and Mojo made our stay more memorable.
Authentic Food, Top Notch Hospitality, Fantastic Birding and trekking around and excellent company of all the dogs and Sunando summed up our experience here. Everything is very tastefully done. The rooms are more than comfortable and well equipped, with great views of the valley. You hear alarm calls, almost everyday and some of the trekking allows you to see tracks and signs and if lucky mammals as well. Great Birding within the property itself. Tanhau is meant for longer stays and is a great place to do nothing! 10/10
if you love nature you must must visit this place...a paradise in the hills. When I write any reviews I typically focus on the negatives first so that fellow travellers can get the real drift. Of course I do highlight the pros as well. With Tanhau I just cannot think of any negative at all. Had one of the best outings of my life, made more special by the fact that it was my child's very first outing...he is all of 14 months old. We also had two senior citizens traveling with us. Sunando and his staff ensured curated service for all of us. The place in itself is so mesmerising that one would forget all of life's stress by just being there and looking out. The food, the views, the activities and also the option of doing nothing but just chill, made it a perfect holiday destination for all of us...the first one post lockdown. The clear blue skies, the fresh air, the sights, the conversations ...all stitched together to make that perfect (and more ) holiday for us. Recommend this to all those who would like to take a break from the hustle bustle of daily life and nest for a few days in the lap of nature, while enjoying all the amenities of modern day living. Sunando, thank you is a small word to express our deep gratitude for hosting us in your paradise. Hope and want to be back soon.…
After a short and comfortable drive from Delhi arrived at the location to be picked up by Sunando, who was welcoming and warm from the beginning. After reaching the property we were properly impressed with the rooms. All of them nicely decorated with pictures of birds and wildlife taken by the owner(Sunando). The property has amazing views from all its cottages. Moving on to the food it was way more than what you would expect being in a homestay! The food was amazing and the staff was also very accommodating with our meal preferences. The highlight of our trip was definitely a hike through the forest early in the morning. Accompanied by Sunando and ........ It was one of the most interesting hikes I have done! Hearing calls from Samhars, Barking Deers just a few feet away. Then encountering a half eaten tiger kill. That one definitely got the excitement going. Being on foot in a jungle is a completely different experience. Especially with the knowledge Sunando has about the wild animals and birds. All in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful quiet spot away form the all the commercial things.…
