Tanhau is a homestay born out of my desire to find peace away from the concrete jungles our cities are. It is an exclusive haven to enjoy nature & wildlife in a way few others can. Located on top of a hill at an altitude of ~4,300 feet, Tanhau overlooks the reserve forests of Corbett Tiger Reserve & the winding Kosi river & has arguably the best views in the Corbett area. We think of Tanhau not just as a place or property, but really more as a way of life - simple, peaceful & in harmony with nature. To reach Tanhau, the last four kilometers are along a jungle dirt track, of which the last kilometer was not even motorable till a few years ago. Is Tanhau everyone's cup of tea? No. If you're looking for a regular family holiday with manicured lawns, swimming pool, spa & loud music in the evenings, then Tanhau would disappoint you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a chance to experience nature & wildlife in a way few others can, then look no further. We are blessed to enjoy a huge variety of bird & animal life, some of them otherwise unrecorded in the Corbett area, and enjoy sharing our experiences with interested people. Tanhau is a destination like no other in the Corbett area. You could take a thrilling walk through prime tiger habitat during the day, enjoy sundowners while listening to sambar deer alarm calls from the thick forest below, dine al fresco while counting shooting stars in the night sky; or you could choose instead to simply enjoy the peace & spectacular view with a book & wholesome soul food instead. The options we can offer are myriad, and some are ones that are truly unique.

Tanhau proved to be a delightful retreat, boasting a picturesque landscape with expansive forest views and majestic views of the sunrise and sunset. The room ambiance is impeccable, marked by meticulous attention to detail and a delightful collection of books. A walking safari led by the friendly staff member Umaid unveiled a diverse array of birdlife nearby. Mr. Sunando Sen, a passionate wildlife enthusiast, was a welcoming host.

The food was a highlight, with delectable flavors that added to the overall experience. Despite its remote location, Tanhau Resort is easily accessible via a motorable path, and the unexpected availability of WiFi adds a convenient touch. I would definitely love to visit the place again.

After a short and comfortable drive from Delhi arrived at the location to be picked up by Sunando, who was welcoming and warm from the beginning. After reaching the property we were properly impressed with the rooms. All of them nicely decorated with pictures of birds and wildlife taken by the owner(Sunando). The property has amazing views from all its cottages. Moving on to the food it was way more than what you would expect being in a homestay! The food was amazing and the staff was also very accommodating with our meal preferences. The highlight of our trip was definitely a hike through the forest early in the morning. Accompanied by Sunando and ........ It was one of the most interesting hikes I have done! Hearing calls from Samhars, Barking Deers just a few feet away. Then encountering a half eaten tiger kill. That one definitely got the excitement going. Being on foot in a jungle is a completely different experience. Especially with the knowledge Sunando has about the wild animals and birds. All in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful quiet spot away form the all the commercial things.

Located in the buffer area of the Jim Corbett, this is a great place, away from the maddening crowds near the tourist areas of the park. On the flip side, if you want to go for a safari or some place nearby the 4-5 kilometer drive from the property to the main road takes a good 30 minutes because of the treacherous approach road. If you are driving your own vehicle then make sure you get a 4 wheel drive with high ground clearance. Two wheel drives will struggle on some of the slippery inclines. Or you can get to the property on their vehicles easily.
We booked their 2 room cottage “Chukar” for 4 nights for our family. This cottage is very well done with a large sit-out area with great views of the Kosi river valley and has a very well stocked library. We wanted to just chill, hence we did just one safari and one trip to the river in 4 days. We went on morning walks and small hikes around the property. Never felt bored even for a moment. There is no TV but their internet was decent. Airtel/Jio mobile connectivity was patchy.

The owner, Sunando, is prompt in response, very helpful and knowledgeable. The staff are also polite and provide great service. The food is decent and varied.
One of the highlights for us was the gang 5 dogs they have, they are very friendly and quite playful during the morning walk.

This is a place worth going back again and again.

This homestay is beyond Corbett on the mountain top with fabulous views of the Corbett reserve and the Kosi River on one side. And you can spot the snow covered Himalayas on the other side on a clear day a short walk away. It was a 6.5-7 hour drive (not including any stops) from Gurgaon to Tanhau for us. We stayed for 3 nights and left wishing we had planned for more! It's simple, very comfortable, located well inside from the main road and surrounded only by mountains and wilderness. Beautifully made overall and a lot of focus on sustainability (e.g. solar panels). Absolutely quiet at night and you can hear calls from the forest! We stayed at Bagh and I recommend a minimum stay of 3 nights for sure, ideally 4 to 5 :)

What to do: walks and hikes around during the day and early evening; Tapu, choti and godi (I hope I got the names right!) Some of the best views I've experienced in a while and the 5 dogs give you company throughout. Read a book, enjoy the dogs company, play board/card games and enjoy the sunset from the front courtyard of Bagh.

Food: All meals are home cooked since there is nothing around. Excellent food; not oily or overly spicy and yummm! Indian and continental options by Bhagat, the cook.

Thank you Sunando for your hospitality :) and thanks to the rest of the team; Subhash, Bhagat and the doggos; Neo, Wolfie, Bolt, Karma and Dollar. We'll hopefully be back soon!

Tanhau has created memories that will stay with us forever! The property is located in the middle of jungle, where you can trek for the joy of it and fill your lungs with pure oxygen. The sky was always beautiful, blue during the day and star-filled at night. We saw many constellations with naked eye. My parents loved the serene, green location, the roomy cottages and the food (they offer indian, asian, continental et al), the staff is extremely helpful.

Tanhau is a great place to be if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway in the mountains. It has amazing views overlooking Corbett and the river Kosi that flows through it. The owner Sunando is very welcoming and helpful, and his staff including Umaid and Panchi provided great service and told us fascinating stories about the place. The cook (sorry can’t recall his name) prepared delicious meals, while Sunando was kind enough to ask us about our food preferences well before we arrived. Overall we enjoyed it thoroughly and look forward to visiting again.

We travelled to Tanhau in Dec 2021, with a family of 4 adults including 2 senior citizens and one 9 yo child. We were looking for a relaxed, quite holiday and we were very happy with our choice.
We stayed in the Chukar cottage, which has 2 rooms and a beautiful sit out. This is a great place for relaxing, and taking long walks in the nearby forests and villages. The property is personally managed by Sunando along with a very able staff of 3. There are 5 very friendly dogs on the property, and we had a great time playing with them. They will accompany you on the walks and even come to your room to play.
From youngest to oldest, every one enjoyed this property, with the major drivers of enjoyment being as below (cannot let go of corporate speak can we 😊)
1. Personal attention by the host – Sunando is a great host, with encyclopedic knowledge of Corbett’s wildlife and environs. He is a very engaging conversationalist and joined us for many meals, regaling us with his anecdotes !
2. The sheer isolation – no other touristy places nearby, so you really enjoy the solitude
3. Great food – the cook was very good, and we had great Kumaoni as well as continental and Asian food. He had made some Khao Swe, which was some of the best Burmese, I have had ever
4. Walks and trails nearby
There are no major drawbacks to this place, except if you are expecting a regular touristy experience, this is not for you. And we are thankful for that 😊

The more I want to write about Tanhau the less it will be. A stay here transports you to serene, untamed surrounding preserved in its natural bounty. This is a place for people who look no further than nature as their companion. Beautiful aesthetically and ecofriendly cottages set in a canvas of the Almora hills just above Corbett with the forest around, mesmerizing sunrise and sunsets, changing colours of the hills and the sky, calls of the wild and occasional sighting of the jungle folk weaves an unforgettable experience. Not to mention the amazing hospitality of Sunondo and his team wraps you in the feeling of homely comfort that is difficult to shake of when it is time to leave. Balmy evenings with stories from the jungles, amazing collection of books, games and photographs captured by Sunondo in his numerous visits to the jungle is fascinating. The cuisine offered is considering it slocations and kudos to The stars of the stay i

The drive on the way to Tanhau, on winding hill roads, already gives you the feeling that good things are ahead. Sure enough, at my first glimpse of Tanhau, I felt as though I'd died and woken up in heaven. It is actually your own private wilderness. We took a short trek during our stay there, and spent most of the time lazing around in the winter sun, reading from the big collection of books that Sunando has, and chatting with Chaitali, the amazing host
tess and chef extraordinaire. She served delicious and healthy meals, and made us feel right at home with her friendliness. Harry and Umaidji are the other staff, who are always looking after your comfort and are full of tales of their encounters with tigers and leopards. All in all, if far from the madding crowd is where you want to spend your time, book it.

This homestay is for people who like to be close to nature. If you are a party person and wishes to listen loud music very late in the night then avoid staying here as this is in the close vicinity of wild life.

The owners and staff are exempt friendly and helpful. They were always available for any inconvenience. They serve home cooked, scrumptious meals with love.

The property is well maintained and clean. Rooms are huge and can accommodate a family. They have tried to keep nature friendly. Ample spaces for kids to play in the sunlight and we also did our workout.
