Placid mornings, still afternoons and star-studded nights make the recipe for rejuvenating, reinventing or simply taking a break.Tucked away between the North-East periphery of Corbett National Park and the Foothills of Nainital, lies the less traveled area of Kotabagh where the private Foothills nestles. This delightful and refreshing enclave is, so as to speak cradled by the jungle on one sideand the hills on the other. With its gravity fed irrigation channels and bountiful climate, Kotabagh is a paradise for cereals and fruits.Splendid farm patches and orchards dot the undulating landscape. With its proximity to the last great Sal forest of the Himalayan foothills in the bhabar, one can indulge in the gentle but beautiful countryside with long walks and for those wanting more adventure, take day trips along with a local guide into the neighbouring jungles that harbours diverse wildlife. The jungles surrounding Foothills makes it unique as these were the very jungles where Jim Corbett learnt “Jungle Lore” and hunted down dreaded man-eaters and passed on his wisdom through his immortal work.Foothills-Ideal as a retreat, for relaxing, meditating, getting away and perfecting the art of doing Nothing. So when the business of life calls for getting away, from the crowds, the noise, the glamour and its hectic pace … Then its time to Getaway to Foothills.

Staying at Foothills Himalaya is an experience like no other. The owner (Rushil Shergill) took us on treks in the neighboring areas and explained to us in great detail about the birds, trees, and animals. The property is extremely well-maintained. With its lawns, trees, cute pets (Simba and Elsa, the two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, who are so friendly with humans), and the maintenance staff, it really felt that I was staying in my own home. That said, the thing that impressed me the most about my stay at Foothills Himalaya is the food. I have some digestive issues and my nutritionist has advised me to not have chillies, garam masala, wheat, excess amount of daal, and milky products. I've been a journalist and have stayed at many 5-stars and noticed that even they struggle with such dietary restrictions. However, Rushil and his team handled all my diet-related requests so professionally that I was really impressed. They serve their guests local and organic grains, vegetables, daals, eggs, and fruits. As a result, I did not feel bloated at all. I had maa-rajma ki daal there, which I was avoiding in Delhi for years. Much to my surprise, I did not feel bloated after having it. Rushil's dad told me it was because the daal was organic. Their staff cooked delicacies like local mushroom and local soyabean, which I had never had until then. My digestion improved so much there that I managed to have kadi-pakoda with a bit of red chilli. The kadi-pakoda and rice made by their chefs were mouth-watering, and they did not affect my digestion at all. Apart from it, Rushil’s dad made us taste several types of home-made vinegars, jams, etc. And, the food was consistently excellent. I'd certainly recommend Foothills Himalaya to those who want to stay in sync with nature and at a place, which is so home-like.

This was our second stay at Foothills. And like wine, the experience only gets better with time. It was like going back to visit friends and family who looked after you, indulged and pampered you everywhich way. We stayed at the “Zenden” - warm, cosy and with outstanding views of the lush fields and with friendly visits from many birds. Delicious meals were had sitting and laughing away around the fireplace - biryanis, burgers, pizza, or a hearty rajma-chawal - the food was at par with the best I’ve had. Our fave meal was of course the “Bonnet Breakfast!” Lots of gorgeous walks all around for you to burn off those calories, and you can go for longer hikes too if you so please. Then there is Simba and Rani - guaranteed to steal your hearts away. But the best part of a stay at Foothills are its hosts - Deepa aunty, uncle, and Rushil who is the heart and soul of this place. Coolest and warmest bunch of people you will ever meet ❤️ Trust me, you will keep going back for more.

We left at 7.30am from Delhi and got to the Foothills by 1.30pm. The drive was super. The location was right where it should be with the weather being ideal. The food was yummy. It was the perfect birthday gift from my better half. Just what I needed to recharge my battery and get back to the grind for the week ahead. I will be back and expect me to recommend many of my loved ones. PS - Rushil, the owner, has a bucket load of stories to share, from passing a Tiger on his walk to stitching up his dog who got attacked by a leopard. Just talking to him is worth the trip. In the photo below you can see him with his falcon, who was injured and is now being rehabilitated.

My friend and I booked 2 nights at Foohills Himalaya. We loved it so much we stayed for 5 nights! The property is absolutely beautiful, and the whole vibe is so refreshing after the hustle and bustle of Delhi and elsewhere. This is exactly what we needed after several weeks traveling around the country. The room is lovely, the food was amazing, and we absolutely loved the dogs on site! Super cute. The hosts, Rushil and his father, were extremely gracious, and their team always made sure we never wanted for anything. Rushil is also an expert naturalist and can take you on beautiful safari-type rides, pointing out birds, plants and more. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Rushil’s homestay was just what we needed to relax after a few weeks in India. The food and atmosphere was amazing, Simba & Rani (cute dogs) were super friendly, the property was so green and lush, and Rushil made us feel right at home. He took us around and was a great guide, especially with the birds! The room we stayed in had such a nice breeze, the bed was comfy, and we had everything we needed. Thank you so much for having us!

From the moment you step into Foothills, you feel like you've been transported to paradise. Even though I've visited Corbett countless times before, there is nothing like the landscape of Kotabagh. There's a beautiful drive through the jungle (towards Foothills)...it lasts only a couple of minutes, but every time we drove through I knew it would lead to paradise! I can't put that feeling into words... The rooms are beautiful, spacious and clean with lots of natural light. Very quickly you feel at home. Rushil is a gracious host, who can cook up a storm and is happy to take into account all your dietary needs/restrictions. I'd recommend Foothills to anyone with an adventurous spirit, looking to slow down and to connect with nature and themselves. I can't wait to go back!

The place is nestled a lil outside the city and amazingly peaceful. You can gaze the stars play with pets and retreat into your cottage room never wanting to get out except for the delicious meals rushil makes . As a host rushil makes sure your comfortable , also takes you to nearby treks and fishing in season. This place is a gem both in summers and winters for a much needed break .

Our family needed a quick getaway out of Delhi in pandemic times and Foothills was an absolutely beautiful refuge. We arrived as guests and left as family. Our nearly 5-year-old son was swept up and pampered by the team, all meals were excellent and if there's anyone you want to explore this part of Uttarakhand with, it's Rushil. Foothills is now home for us and we can't wait to go back.

Foothills Himalaya was a breath of fresh air. There is so much to love about the property: the hosts are extremely hospitable and friendly, the food is delicious (made mostly with homegrown ingredients), the rooms are comfortable and one feels like they've been transported into a space of tranquillity and peace. It is a great place to land up with a group of friends and from walks, to a swim in the waterfall, to a wildlife safari, to just lying under a sky full of stars, there's something for everyone! If you are a pet lover, you will go back having made some lovely furry friends.
