Placid mornings, still afternoons and star-studded nights make the recipe for rejuvenating, reinventing or simply taking a break.Tucked away between the North-East periphery of Corbett National Park and the Foothills of Nainital, lies the less traveled area of Kotabagh where the private Foothills nestles. This delightful and refreshing enclave is, so as to speak cradled by the jungle on one sideand the hills on the other. With its gravity fed irrigation channels and bountiful climate, Kotabagh is a paradise for cereals and fruits.Splendid farm patches and orchards dot the undulating landscape. With its proximity to the last great Sal forest of the Himalayan foothills in the bhabar, one can indulge in the gentle but beautiful countryside with long walks and for those wanting more adventure, take day trips along with a local guide into the neighbouring jungles that harbours diverse wildlife. The jungles surrounding Foothills makes it unique as these were the very jungles where Jim Corbett learnt “Jungle Lore” and hunted down dreaded man-eaters and passed on his wisdom through his immortal work.Foothills-Ideal as a retreat, for relaxing, meditating, getting away and perfecting the art of doing Nothing. So when the business of life calls for getting away, from the crowds, the noise, the glamour and its hectic pace … Then its time to Getaway to Foothills.

If you're looking for a 'home'stay, then this is it. Think Gerald Durrell meets Enid Blyton meets James Herriot.
A vast tree-surrounded garden, in which a rescued falcon, a rescued owl, dozens of hens, four rescued dogs of the most amazing friendliness, one of whom is going to (and did!) deliver a litter, and at least 25 species of birds, bounded by the forest on one side (albeit a bit of a stroll away), abundant cultivated farmlands on the other, and a great view of the relatively unspoilt parts of the Kumaon ranges, is the sylvan setting for FH.
Add a madcap family of four with astounding individual personalities, all great raconteurs and conversationalists with multiple interests, and a kitchen that turns out filling repasts including home-made jams, preserves and other condiments, and a bonfire in the evening (winters, of course), and you have, as they say in poker, a full house.
The rooms are basic but comfortable, built in the local style with local materials, and the meals in the convivial , rustically set dining room, are like meals at home, informal and full of chatter.
The scion of the household, Rushil, genially took us for walks and rambles, into the hills and down to the riverbed, and the paterfamilias Sherry (ne'er was there a truer name), his wife Deepa, and their daughter Amrita made us feel like we had been inducted into their menagerie.
There cannot be a more lovely feeling on a holiday if you're looking for a home away from home.

Their hospitality was unparalleled, and their warmth truly made the stay exceptional.
The accommodation itself was not only comfortable but also immaculate, reflecting the care and effort put into maintaining it. The hosts' attention to detail was evident in every corner, ensuring a cozy and inviting atmosphere throughout.

The food was excellent! From the delightful breakfast spreads to the delicious homemade lunch and dinners, every bite was a true delight. The flavors were exquisite, and the meals were made with such thoughtfulness, catering to various tastes and preferences.

Moreover, the hosts went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. They took out time to show us around that added a special touch to our overall experience.

I highly recommend Foothills Himalaya to anyone seeking not just accommodation but an enriching and heartwarming experience. Thank you to the hosts and his family for going way beyond to make our stay truy exceptional and creating such a memorable stay. Can't wait to be back again!

We had a lovely stay at the The Foothills Himalaya property. Our team was in India to create a fly fishing documentary on the Golden Mahseer. Our filming was in Uttarakhand but closer to the Nepal border. Hearing about Jim Corbett National Park, we couldn't resist adding a few days to explore this beautiful park, and maybe even see a tiger. Foothills Himalaya was recommended to us for its comfortable rooms, immaculate grounds and knowledgeable host Rushil, who would also serve as our safari host in addition to the safari driver and park guide. Rushil is highly knowledgeable about the local flora & fauna. He was very helpful in spotting some rare birds we were able to capture on film as well as teaching us about animal warning calls which led to our eventual tiger sighting.

The property itself was like a little retreat. We were initially greeted with a refreshing lemonade drink. The rooms were stunningly beautiful. The shower had nice, hot water and the beds were comfortable. The grounds were well kept and were had a nice tour of all the beautiful trees and gardens, which produced some of the foods that was prepared for us. The food was very tasty. We were given of choice of various cuisines from around the world. We chose local Indian for the most part it was delicious.

One of my favorite aspects of the property was the various sitting areas. From the comfortable couches and chairs in our suite to the beautiful relaxing area just outside our guest house, there was always a new place to chill and chat about the day and plan for the next. Very relaxing.

If I could have my way, I would pick the whole place up and move it closer to Jim Corbett National Park. The commute each way to the NP was the only downside.

Foothills Himalaya was a breath of fresh air. There is so much to love about the property: the hosts are extremely hospitable and friendly, the food is delicious (made mostly with homegrown ingredients), the rooms are comfortable and one feels like they've been transported into a space of tranquillity and peace. It is a great place to land up with a group of friends and from walks, to a swim in the waterfall, to a wildlife safari, to just lying under a sky full of stars, there's something for everyone! If you are a pet lover, you will go back having made some lovely furry friends.

They all said he was the lucky mascot for tigers. That going with Rushil to the forest would ensure you would spot them. We were yet to find out. As we entered the place, we felt like we had reached Uncle Tom's Log cabin. Only it was Uncle Sherry instead.A humorous and handsome man, quoting frequently from his many interesting episodes in that beautiful haven of adventure they called home.

Deepa Aunty, the ever so charming hostess, with all her vibrance and caring ways, would always ensure you had all the amenities and comforts to make you feel at home.

Amy, was just as lovely as the rest of her family. The dog mother as we later referred to her, beautiful, walking like a cloud with impeccable make up in the evenings, was always there to talk, chat, share a cuppa with.

Foothills Himalays, with all its flora and unforgettable fauna will carve such a place in your heart that you would want to go back to this place every time, every holiday.A holiday like no other, you are at home, yet away from home, you are with family, inspite of being away from family.

And about the tigers and the lucky mascot, try going with Rushil! One of the few falconeers of the Country, it is amazing to see his interaction with the beautiful birds whom he rescues and take care of, like family.

It is as if he can sense the forest, he even thinks like the tigers and its prey!!He knows the names of the birds, the tigers, the elephants and their cubs..and knows the forest like the back of his hand!!Going in the forest with him is like going with Tarzan who is of course more fun!!! And btw...we saw tigers on 4 out of 6 safaris! Thank you lucky mascot for a forest experience like no other!!

The place is nestled a lil outside the city and amazingly peaceful. You can gaze the stars play with pets and retreat into your cottage room never wanting to get out except for the delicious meals rushil makes .
As a host rushil makes sure your comfortable , also takes you to nearby treks and fishing in season.

This place is a gem both in summers and winters for a much needed break .

...and felt like family while with Sherry, Deepa, Amy and our wholly talented host Rushil. The warmth and welcome we recieved by the family and their staff should be enough reason for you to drop all options and head straight to kotabagh. Do you still need functional reasons to come to these cool and clean climes under a sky of full of stars and surrounding fields of tomato plantation and bouganvillea flowers and marigolds growing wild, and a campus filled with Rushils love for nature and her beings including chickens an owl and his most handsome dogs? Okay so here is one. The kitchen. When I say the food is good enough for the Gods I am saying this is indian cuisine in its full opera. Flavour. Flavour. Flavour. At least 10 dishes that I will want to feed Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay. If the mutton, the biryani and the pahari khana and the chutneys can possibly be patented than Rushil and his cook Himanshu can apply for food IP. Go for it guys. Have fun.

Had the best time with Rushil and his home stay. Rushil has been the best host, making sure to take us on treks, drives to gorgeous hidden spots, sharing the history + knowledge about the hills that he's been living in forever. He has 2 of the most friendly dogs ever who will ask you for cuddles and snacks. I spent most of the time either exploring the area with Rushil just hanging around in the garden, getting some nice winter sun while the dogs were napping. I also got a chance to feed the chickens which was pretty cool.
Rushil is also very good at spotting tiger/leopard poop 🤣

I also met Rushils parents who were really friendly and had great conversations. The food was another level with most of the ingredients grown on their own farm or locally picked. I ate freshly made pasta, yummy eggs, fried chicken, rajma chawal and much more!!

I would recommend visiting this homestay as everything is taken care of for you.

This home stay is the best one I have ever been to. The very friendly hosts and their even friendlier dogs were great company. Every day, you can go for long relaxing walks through the mountains and take in the lovely scenery and fresh air. The food there is heavenly and the essence of home-made, with love poured into it. Rushil, the host, is a wildlife expert from everything from being a master at falconry to knowing every animal and bird you see. This place really is the best and I really recommend it.

This was our second time here.
Warm hospitality at a homestay on the border of tiger country. Rushill and his dad are amazing hosts, with lots of knowledge about the ecosystem and terrain of the area. Rushill is a fabulous chef and his handi mutton is just perfect!
Their gentle giant dog Simba and the ever playful Rani were a great hit with the kids.
Rushill took us to a beautiful river side setting and recommended a secluded waterfall nearby which were memorable experiences for the family!
