We didn't stay here but we were 'saved' by the wonderful manager, Divya Pant, when our plans went astray. Our resort booking elsewhere was cancelled when we were already en route and we had to make a much longer journey. When you are near Nagarhole there aren't many places to stop! We pulled in at Kaav to see if we could get lunch. They were too busy with their own residents to manage a lunch for us but the wonderful Manager, Divya, generously said we were welcome to use the washroom, have a rest and have a drink to restore ourselves. We were so grateful. We sat in a very comfortable shady area, with soft drinks, and we even got roasted masala peanuts which was a great snack to keep us going. We are keen bird watchers and were soon attracted to activity around the pool and saw 3 new species. We had a look around the accommodation as well. The bedrooms are a decent size (without being capacious) and the shower and wash area look lovely. It all looks fresh and new and modern. The staff must be excellent if Divya's hospitality is anything to go by. We were very lucky to happen upon Kaav Kabini as a haven for a rest, especially when we were feeling bitterly disappointed by our enforced change of plan.

It is lovely!

Just 4 rooms and 2 tents but a lot of common space for you to move around. It is intimate without being claustrophobic. It is on a 6 acre lot.

The rooms are sumptuous in size . there is a large balcony attached to it. Additionally, there are two common lounges, one each on the I and II Floors. There is also a lounge on the ground floor.

The food is outstanding. Lots of choice for vegetarians too. Remember to leave space for the dessert which is served with both lunch and dinner. Over our 3 days, we had chocolate pudding, cheese cake, carrot payasam, and kiwi with cream

Service is outstanding: rooms and common areas are kept sparkling clean, meals are always served on time, and they are prepared to adjust their schedules to your needs.

The naturalist is very good- he accompanies you on most trips and also conducts a Spider walk on the premises.

This was our second visit as we prefer small places to stay & it is very near the safari park. The bedrooms are very comfortable with individual patios overlooking parkland. Morning & afternoon you have the opportunity to do either land or water safari. The guide we had was very good & we were very lucky to see 5 tigers amongst other very interesting mammals & birds! Staff were very welcoming & food good.

I recently visited this location which was very good staying in one of the tents. Every facility was provided in the tents a truly good experience. The food was good the staff most helpful. However upon approach to the location it is very uninspiring not a flower or plant pot in sight and a bit unkept. There is no communal area for after dinner no opportunity to sit and meet other guests. The area to the "tents" is extremely uneven and we had to ask for torches to see the path at night. A little more attention paid to making the reception area and a lounge would enhance this establishment immensely. Boat Safari ok but a bit far from the waters edge to get a good look at the wild life. Land Safari very good.

Wow, wow, wow!!! What an experience.. Kaav is the heart of Kabini in true sense. The property is a small boutique property with just 6 rooms, which means you have your own calm in every corner of the resort.
We stayed in the tent and it was an experience in its own. The room was spic and span. Every basic essential was provided.. the bathtub added to the aesthetics of the room. Direct view to the forest within few meters from the room was the highlight..
DIVYA!! Well she is the shining star of Kaav. She was constantly in touch with us right from the time we booked the resort. Always running on her toes and trying her best to fulfil every smallest demand. She definitely made our stay super comfortable and relaxing. She was always ready to politely answer every doubt and has abundant knowledge of wildlife in and around the resort. We kept nagging her to join us on a Safari and she did and provided abundant information of the reserve and wildlife therein.
The resort offers all inclusive plan which meant all meals were included. But the resort staff didnt limit to just that. They were always happy to serve additional beverages/ fruits and snacks whenever we asked for at no added costs. The food was amazing though the variety was tad limited and became repetitive. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, the staff made special arrangements for breakfast and the cake was a delish.
Coming to the staff. Every member of the 16 person team is amazing. They are always there to help with a smile and have a warm behaviour always. We had a mouse visiting our room at 2am and Divya and the staff were just super helpful escorting him out even in middle of the night.
We would want to thank Divya, Sujeet and every member of the staff to help us through our stay and make it a memorable one.

Our room was "Tiger" in the main block of 4 rooms. The room was very well furnished with a nice balcony. Staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and the food was good - they even baked a special cake for the guests with "Happy Christmas" on it! A wonderful stay capped off with a lengthly sighting of a female tiger.

The pictures on the site map out and are misleading. Very spacious and comfortable room, as is the bathroom and bathroom. The place is in modern design. The place environment is not inviting, although the place is in the heart of the grove. The air conditioning in the room does not work the next morning which is really unpleasant, we turned on the ceiling fan, the problem that it operates at one high speed - noisy and too loud. In the safari we came to, we saw nothing but elephant, 2 peacocks, some deer and 2 nebrans, the safari car ride was really unpleasant and lasted about three hours. We did evening safaris and friends who did morning safaris experienced the same "experience". You can definitely give up the place as part of a trip to India.

Lovely safari resort in the reserve about 20 minutes drive from where all the jeeps/vehicles start from. The staff, bedrooms, food, extra activities were all excellent - couldn't fault anyone. Even the resident dogs were a lovely bonus.
Only comment would be that you had to request a hairdryer if you wanted one, which was provided, but with not too many rooms on the resort it would be easier to provide a hairdryer for each room rather than guests having to request one.
I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone and their staff were all excellent. We had a wonderful stay. Make sure you have some warm clothing for the early game drives or boat rides as it's v windy and cold until later in the day. The afternoon drives are much warmer.

We stayed here for 3 nights as a base for visiting Nagarhole National Park. It's a fabulous small lodge with all of the modern comforts of a luxury hotel in a rural location. We had a lovely welcome from Vaanya and the dogs.
Our room was large and modern with a big comfortable bed. We had a large terrace overlooking the park. There are two washbasins and a separate shower, all spotlessly clean. The food was delicious, all served on an open terrace overlooked by the kitchen. Every need was catered for, if you were going on an early morning safari, tea or coffee and snacks were delivered to your room.
There were plenty of communal areas for sitting and looking over the park. There was also a swimming pool.
The safaris were well organised. Warm shawls were offered for the chilly early mornings. The lodge jeeps were used to take guests to a meeting point where we were transferred to official park jeeps or boats. The best safaris by far were those where we were accompanied by the Kaav resident naturalist, Sujith. His passion for nature and his determination to find wildlife for guests really made the trip special. We saw so many animals and did finally see a tiger thanks to his efforts.
I'm looking for an excuse to return!

This place has all you can ask for if you are looking for a peaceful hideaway with a unique atmosphere and location. Situated right at the border of the national park and with only 7 rooms it offers a perfect spot for complete relaxation. Staff is amazing and the naturalist is even better. Safaris in the forest as well as on the river is obviously a must and very addictive. Food is great and rooms are very well designed and maintained.

Yes, safaris should be booked in advance, and they are available to book upon arrival (though not recommended, safer to pre-book) The booking is through the lodge, they organize everything for you (Trip from the lodge to the safari, the tour and the trip back to the lodge)
Answer from Divya Pant

To get to KAAV using public transportation, one can do so by bus/train. 1) Buses and trains ply between Bangalore (from the Airport/ Majestic Bus Stand/ Satellite Bus Stand) and Mysore. 2) From Mysore, one has to change over to buses (from the same bus station that you alight) that move towards Mananthavady, Kerala. Ask for the Malalli Cross that lies between the Malalli and N Belathur Bus Stands : this will drop you off right outside the Lodge. Happy travels!
