#1 of 5 B&Bs / Inns in Bandipur
Travellers' Choice
Dhole's Den offers 5 living spaces (2 Habitats, 2 Garden Mansions and 1 Mountain Paradise (Junior Suite). Aptly termed Habitat these are spacious each with a large bedroom, a bath with a shower and access to the balcony that offers a commanding view of the Nilgiris and the landscape of Bandipur Large glass sliding doors offer a panoramic and unhindered view of the landscape and the Niligiri Mountains. The two separate Garden Mansions offer a spacious living and bed area and are about 1200 sq.ft in area. The living, bed and the bath are placed in such a way so as to offer privacy even without too many walls or doors. These mansions can accommodate a maximum of 4 adults. The bright and friendly bath area offers a shower open to the sky and even a view to the mountains both giving a special touch of freedom. The large balcony is separated from the bed room by sliding glass shutters allowing enough light and sight from the moment you wake up. Mountain Paradise is the newest addition to our homestay. This semi-detached mansion offers the most exclusive views that Dhole's Den has to offer. It overlooks our rain water pond and has a large balcony and a set of terraces that complement the setting to offer the guest spots to stay and pause while they walk to or away from this space. The bath is connected to an outdoor area that offers again a space to not just view the landscape but provides that feeling of adventure as one steps out and is at the border of our property and enjoy more than just a window to the forest. Dhole's Den is an eco-friendly safari lodge in the true sense of the word. We were the first to try and successfully employ eco-friendly methods in the Bandipur National Park. Most of our power is green. We treat our waste water using reed beds to reduce the effluents entering the ground water to the maximum and use a a bio-digester for the disposal of kitchenwaste and fresh produce from the garden is served whenever in season. We organise Safari to the Bandipur Tiger Reserve (camera fees have to be paid extra by the guests), nature walks, village safaris. We offer a jogging track, meditation area, indoor games and outgoor games as activities. Cooking demonstration and Yoga courses upon request.

Let’s start at the very beginning. Even though it was our first ever long drive, Dhole’s Den was quite easy to locate, meandering through the jungles of Bandipur. The experience starting from the very booking till check out had been very smooth, thanks to Karthick who chose the best suited bungalow for us friends. The bungalow stood aloof from the main building and gave us that feeling of isolation which we were seeking amidst the pandemic scare. The rooms and the bathroom were a treat - aesthetic, clean and peaceful. Though the rooms didn’t have any AC and April being not a cold month, the stand fans served their purpose well (we didn’t mind the slight discomfort considering the overall satisfaction). The flow of water in the bathroom was not enough though, hope the management looks into it. The balcony and beyond, visible from the bed, soothed our eyes every morning. April being quite a dry month the greens were bit less, but we could imagine the beauty the rains will bring. The food was quite light on our digestive system and tasted well too, a definite usp. But our hungry lot craved for more of the evening snacks. It was quite relaxing going around the property or sitting on the cafe roof or hopelessly fishing at the pond. A final positive would the fuel support available at Dhole’s Den, which becomes key when you’re running tight on that and have no petrol pump before gundlupet. And yes, the service provided by the courteous staff was quite professional.

difficult roads often leads to beautiful destinations. yes. just around 2km from the village near bandipur the drive will be tough to reach out this amazing homestay. But its worth being there. our day was really packed from the time we checked in. Soon after lunch we headed towards safari. It is organized by the forest department which they will accommodate. You can either take private safari by JLR or public by the department. Evening we had a good time around campfire with Mr. Karthik. peaceful night and morning we were accompanied by Mr.Girish, naturalist who had great knowledge on birds and the surrounding. We also visited their organic farm. No wonder why the food tasted so yummy. All veggies are grown in their farm. Karthik owns around 6 breaded dogs and not all are let out inside the premises. Zabu seems to be friendly...We did not get a chance to spend sometime in the pool which we wanted to, as the stay was only for a day. ..Very neatly maintained property and lot of displays are handmade/ hand crafted...Memorable stay... Thanks karthik and team

The resort was so serene and peaceful. Nicely built and supports eco system. You should must visit if you want to experience the hospitality as words cannot describe. A friendly host and staffs. The room was bigger and airier. It was clean and well maintained. Food is too. If you are lucky you can spot the Dholes as they venture around the property. Wake up to the sound of birds and it felt like u r among them. Just hustling wind and chirping birds.

The resort is good , but they have huge glass which are not Tuffend, my son ran into the glass and had a huge leg enjoury . I had paid Rs 3000/- when I had been to guldelput to put injection I met with a glass guy and gave his the entire size and mm of the glass . I even asked the owner shill u get it done . They told me max 2600/- including transport and fittings charges will be Rs 2600/- but the owner denied and said we will do it later . At the time of check out I paid Rs 3000/- extra 400/- so that they must not feel bad . But after few days the owner sends me bill of 2519/- glass and the fitting charges is are 3000/- I am really sorry. First of all if my son had an head injury it would have been serious. So request you to change all your big glasses into Tuffend so that your guest are safe . Because it’s a risk for life . Rest it’s your resort , but very very disappointed for 3000/- as fitting and the way the huge glass are put . Hope you don’t have a next incident.

Response from Karthik Davey, Owner at Dhole's Den

Dear Sir, thanks for your review which we sadly feel is exaggerated to say the least. We hope nevertheless that your stay was comfortable. Thus this reply has one function to bring to your notice that you have conveniently forgotten certain details among the numbers that are here. 1. We not only admistered first-aid but also sent my assistant to accompany you. 2. When you returned you mentioned that the cut wasn't deep and nor huge and we saw that there wasnt a stitch nor a new bandage other than our own on your child's leg. 3. We were handed over the details of the place where to purchase the glass. 4. We accepted INR 3000 as part payment and you agreed to come up for extra costs if any and we partned in good faith as it was already late when you returned. Now our experience of repair: 1. We connected with the same person to purchase the glass andas you see we got it cheaper than the amount mentioned. We havent even demanded the transport charges from you. The same person didnt have a carpenter to fit the glass in our aluminium doors and as we had guests the next day we had to get him from Mysore. We have a bill for all the repair work. To add here: 1. All our large shutters are autoglass and tuffened glass and only small sliding door to the foyer is normal glass. 2. We expect parents to take care of their children and not leave them un attended. If your child had run in to the autoglass he may have had a head injury. It goes without saying that what is broken by a guest at a facility needs to be paid for. We have always mentioned that the facilities at our homestay arent child friendly but we cannot refuse guests when they do arrive with their own kids. By not agreeing to come up for the cost and refusing to pay for the charges incurred by us and pushing the blame on us hosts is not a charming way to react and leaves behind not just an unpaid bill but a bad aftertaste. Have a Good Day! Karthik Davey
