Booked into the Traquair Arms Hotel for the night, arrived to find out we had booked one of the wee self service cottages out the back. Lovely space and great value with parking at the front of the cottage too. We stopped off in the hotel for dinner, the food was incredible. My friend and I went to a wedding function at nearby Neidpath Castle, upon returning to the hotel later that night the bar was busy and there was a private function on next door, seems to be the local hotspot. The following morning we ventured into the dining room for breakfast and again we couldn’t rate this any higher. Brilliant quality. Our overall experience was fantastic, everyone that greeted us or served us during our stay were wonderful. I’d highly recommend this place if you are heading in the direction of the borders for somewhere to stay over. Marvellous trip!

The staff were all amazingly helpful, both before and during our stay. We were unable to check-in during their allocated hours due to being at a wedding (the reason for our stay), yet the staff were super helpful when I phoned to enquire about this prior to booking. On arrival, the young man at reception got us checked in early, provided us with our room key, and even offered to call a taxi to take us to the wedding venue (and provided us with a couple of taxi numbers for our return journey after the wedding). We enjoyed a relaxing drink while we waited for our taxi, and the lady behind the bar was friendly and attentive. Our room was clean and comfortable (excellent bed; very comfy, and we both had a great night's sleep), and the breakfast was fresh, filling, and delicious. We had a wonderful stay, and look forward to returning the next time we're in the area. Thank you again! Also, for visitors in the area: Although we didn't manage to visit this time, we recommend a visit to Traquair House (Scotland's oldest inhabited house, dating back to 1107) for anyone visiting the area. As well as learning all about the amazing history of this remarkable home, the grounds are beautiful, and also house a maze (which you can wander through; it's not just for show).

Stayed here for 3 nights with family. Spacious, comfortable room room for 4 of us. Food was of a high standard although limited breakfast choice if you didn't want something cooked. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Overall an enjoyable stay and lots to do nearby.

If you want to lay in your bed listening to the guy in the room next door snore all night, then this is the place for you. We had a top floor room and the walls have virtually no soundproofing. It is a big negative. Positives: Staff are really friendly and helpful. Downstairs public areas really nice. Area is beautiful. Negatives Poor soundproofing between rooms. Pokey bathroom - Hard to swing a hamster, never mind a cat. Missing bedside table on my side - bizarre. Overall, lovely as the staff are, I wouldn't come again.
