We arrived in the dark, having caught the last ferry across and the last island bus, they stop at 6.10 pm, be warned. We found our way and what a relief to hear a friendly voice call out our name. This was the best accommodation during our month tour of Japan. The host and hostess cannot do enough to make... More

We had a very memorable 4days stay at Shikinoyado, located at 20mn by bus or car west of Anbo port and nestled in a luxuriant natural setting with great views to Mt. Mocchomu. The hostfamily warmly welcomed us, the owner speaks fluently English, which makes communication very easy. The well-appointed japanese style condo room with terrace was very large and cosy... More

We are a family of 3 and we visited Yakushima in end of June. We stayed 3 nights at Shikinoyado and absolutely loved our stay. Shikinoyado is about 40 minutes from the ferry and is located in the southern part of Yakushima, in the town of Onoaida. I am glad we stayed 3 nights as there were plenty to do... More

The rooms are spacious and clean and you get a real Japanese stay. We were lucky enough to enjoy a traditional barbecue with the island most famous flying fish, besides prawns, every sort of meat, rice and vegetables: everything vey good. The owner is really polite, speaks fluent English (do not take it for granted) and is willing to give... More

The hotel is located at a quite and beautiful right beside the main road. We booked a room with semi-outdoor bath for family of 2 adults 2 kids, but the nice owner Kentaro recommended us to stay at condo room which is much more spacious and my kids love that room. Great Japanese breakfast and dinner, one night we had... More

Me and my friend had made a road trip down from Osaka and took the car with us on a ferry to Yakushima. and after that, took the car back to Osaka and return it. It was very convenient to have a car in Yakushima since the bus was kinda expensive and the schedule were complicated. So, our plan was... More

Convenient location on a lovely island. Avoid the western style rooms though as they are cramped with very thin mattresses and itchy bedding. One night's stay was enough for us (we had paid for 3). Annoyingly, we later found out that our Specialist Travel company had booked us into the Japanese style accommodation which is said to be much better.... More

We want to go back and stay at Shiki no Yado we loved it so much. The meals were incredible, especially the dinners eaten outside. Room was very comfortable and we slept like logs on the futons. Do a day tour on your first day to get the lay of the land and arrange a rental car through your host,... More

The hotel was great. We had our own room (Western style) with an outdoor balcony, bath and shower with an amazing view. The staff was so helpful, proving us with a backpack and charger during our stay because we needed them, and also preparing our breakfast to go at 4:30am for our early hike. The food was amazing! Plenty of... More

Previous reviews have covered the ground comprehensively. Suffice to say that if you come to unspoilt Yakushima, stay at Shikinoyado. It is a lovely place with lovely, communicative hosts and superb Japanese food If, like me, you have to confess to having a sweet tooth, there is a delightful little bakery/patisserie 50 meters away. Their pains au chocolat can hold... More
