Kurokawa is an Onsen town located near to Mount Aso in Kumamoto prefecture. It takes around 1 to 2 hours drive from Kumamoto town Centre. Kurokawa So is a ryokan which provides ryokan stay plus Kaiseiki Dinner. What I like about the place is that the staff are very friendly and the host can speak good English. We were there... More

Beautiful resort with spacious tatami room. The premise is immaculately clean and the courteous staff with excellent service level from shuttle pick-up, through meal serving shows how much the Kurokawa So team take pride in their hospitality. I love the large outdoor onsen that is set amidst the boulders, facing a vertical cliff, relaxing in nature is truly an excellent... More

It wasn't my first choice as the one I wanted from viewing blogs were taken. But upon arriving at the town, I'm very pleased with this choice. It's indeed expensive but worth it. First there's ample parking space and you can walk to the village. If you're not used to driving tight corners, dont park in the village. I saw... More

Stayed one night here during a two week self-planned holiday to various Japanese cities. Service was flawless from the time of pick up to drop off at the Kurokawa bus stop. It was a 3 hour bus ride from Hakata Station but well worth the trip. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and could speak excellent English which really enhanced... More

Stayed on early January. It was pretty cheap (about $120/night) and yet the experience at this ryokan was awesome. I'm a Japanese man so I can tell what's good ryokan or not, but this one was outstanding. Kurokawa is kind of remote onsen. It is not easy to get to if you don't have a car. It takes a little... We just visited the onsen for the afternoon to use the baths, which was great value at 500 yen per person. The baths were spacious, super clean, and the water beautifully warmed by the volcano. The outdoor baths were a highlight though, steam rising from the cosy waters in the lush and leafy surrounds, with the sound of the river... More

We are doing back to back stays in different ryokans with onsen for a week. This is our third night and this was flawless. The onsen here is a pretty green with a dramatic cliff face which you can just see. Service was immaculate, dinner was 1.5hrs long and super tasty... We ate up everything!! And the room is very...
