I stayed at Kiya Ryokan with a group of eight other people, some Japanese, some American. Upon our arrival, we were given a fantastic tour in both English and Japanese. The history of the building is fascinating, and its transformation into a modern (yet still traditional) Ryokan is stunning. Many famous artists and writers have stayed and left their mark...

I recently spent a night in Misasa, in order to hike up Mitokusan the next day. Staying at Kiya Ryokan was a terrific experience. The owner came to pick me up at Kurayoshi Station (after a call from the friendly and helpful tourist information office staff) and was very welcoming; he was also good about trying to converse with me...

“The room I stayed in was very spacious, with a small stocked refrigerator, TV, safe, A/C, a small bathroom, and a separate (smoking) "patio" with another sink. Yukata, bath towel and washcloth were included.”
