It was a very interesting experience staying at the temple. We only stayed for one night and in the morning we walked around the area a bit. It was pretty painful to get there from Kyoto, it took us hours and 4 or 5 different trains, including a cable cart. It was also a weekend, so perhaps the train schedule...

I stayed at Henjoko-in for a night in June as part of a trip around Japan. Since I planned to visit both Nara and Hiroshima, Koya-san is not too complicated to visit between the two. Getting to it *does* require planning and setting aside most of a day, because you have to take a couple of trains, a ropeway and...

I stayed here for 1 night on 23 May 2012. The room was very nice, had my own toilet and it seemed to be a fairly new section (some of the temple is quite old). Was nice to have some elbow room after staying in small hotel rooms in Tokyo and Nara previously! The bedding wasn't the most comfortable -...

I stayed at this temple lodging for one night which was quite enjoyable. Our room was very large, in fact we had two tatami rooms (for myself and my partner) and a private toilet and basin. Unfortunately the bath/shower is comunal and there are bathing times for men and women, and if you miss that time (as we did) you...

We arrived at this lovely temple and were shown to our room with a nice view of the second garden. The monk that greated us spoke very good english and gave us some tea before talking us through meal times, prayer times, rules around where to wear slippers etc. We would definately recommend visiting tourist information on the way through...

This temple offers the traditional temple lodging expected in Koyasan. The monks made us feel very welcome and spoke very good English. We stayed in a traditional room with tatami mats and futon bed, which was assembled while we were having dinner. The room (No.5) had a gorgeous garden view. Dinner was served in a private dining room and consisted...

Stayed at the Henjoko In for 1 night whilst travelling around Japan, and it was a great experience. The room was very large, and hot green tea was provided as soon as we entered the temple building. The evening meal and breakfast of shojin ryori; a multi course vegetarian banquet was fantastic. The only issue I would have is that...
