An outstanding experience - one and only kind. Difficult to reach, expensive but then such great things don't and shouldn't be any easier. Pleasing, welcoming staff who provide an amazing level of service. They have a great traditional old world charm that is difficult to describe. Most enjoyable and will be cherished forever

Visited in December 2015. It is not the most convenient for a foreigner (regardless of whether you are heading from Tokyo or Osaka). Getting there from Shin-Osaka took us ~3-4 hours; shikansen to the electric rail to the shuttle bus. BUT, it was all worth it. Booked 1 night stay for my birthday. Drove 2 hrs fm Kawaguchiko after climbing up & down Mt Fuji. The thought of chilling out & soaking our sore muscles in the 6 onsens was very enticing.
