Everything and more than what I expected. After Tokyo it was so refreshing to just relax and embrace a price of Japanese culture. Although not much English was spoken everyone was so obliging and helpful, even to the point of waiting at the bus stop with us to make sure we didn't get lost. The food was first class even...

Is not a cheap hotel for sure & the classic ryokan could put off the most refined customer, so if you are looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not your place. I been reading in other reviews about smell in the room: tatami is a natural product like the sand mat & it has a smell, that can...

So this place was amazing. From the reception where you play rock paper scissors for been with the owner, to the food which is nothing short of spectacular in its multi course dining for breakfast and dinner, it was amazing. Bathing nightly in the hot spring is something I am asking myself how I will live without. There is also...

We really enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Uohan. We haven't been to any other Ryokans so can't compare it but for the most part it exceeded our expectations. First what we didn't like - the futons were not the most comfortable futons I've ever slept on, and we've slept on a number of them. The other disappointment may have simply...

My wife and daughter and I had two nights in Ryokan Uohan. We all over this wonderful family run ryokan. After booking I had some concern about getting a non-smoking room and was told that there were one but that our room would be thoroughly deodorised before our arrival. As it turned out it might have been a non-smoking room;...

Nice basic ryokan, good meals and they did an ok job with the vegetarian food. Rooms smelled quite smoky which was a minus for us. Baths were really nice, especially the outdoor baths on the upper floors.

My partner and I stayed here with another couple. What an experience!! The meal would have to be the highlight of our stay closely followed by our private outdoor Onsen. The meal was very elaborate, it just kept coming and coming. We are in our room, sitting on the floor. This was then cleared and our futons were laid out...

My boyfriend and I had trouble finding a place with a private onsen in Hakone, so we booked this onsen in Yugawara. We needed a private onsen as my boyfriend has a tattoo, and you are not allowed in public onsens if you have one on your body. The onsen was not too difficult to get to. We walked there...
