Very friendly staff and owner. Food was very good with a reasonably good choice of ales. Well worth stopping over for a couple of nights with your partner. This place has loads of character in a beautiful area. Lots of wood beams and wonky floors, which is the type of place I really enjoy. If you're looking for straight lines...

Stayed here for one night whilst on business in the area. Had room 3 which was very bright, roomy and with a good outlook. Bed was very comfy, tea/coffee tray was very well stocked. Bathroom was small but shower was good with plenty of hot water The room would be a tad tight for two people and could have benefited...

We had booked a wine dinner at Waddesdon Manor and booked an overnight stay at The Hundred of Ashendon. We arrived around lunch time and had a light snack at the bar. The sandwiches were generous and good flavoured ingredients; the fries were well seasoned and the alioli very garlicy. After lunch we asked the team member if they could...

We were looking forward to a recent meal at this establishment but which ended up proving rather disappointing. The menu was rather limited and from what we gathered from other comments, the menus were almost unchanged from previous visits of a long time back. We found the food rather pricey, when you consider having to pay extra for everything else...

OK, so I get turning a pub that's out in the sticks into an eatery with rooms. So far so good. The young staff are friendly and helpful and I was made welcome on arrival. However, on coming down for breakfast at 8.45 (does it matter if it was 8.40 or even 8.50am, it was well before 9.00am, I was...

Thank you for your kind words about our staff, and I’m sorry that you were left with such a bad taste in your mouth after your conversation with our chef over check-out. However, your vitriolic account of it is not entirely as he remembers, so I feel that for the benefit of him, myself and all our hardworking staff, I...

Easy to book, helpful staff. Perhaps avoid the single room due to very small bathroom; all other rooms are a good size, well presented and nice and clean. Don't miss out on the great breakfast in the morning.

A family lunch but we were the only ones present except for noisy and uncontrolled children. Interesting menu, the partridge pie was excellent.Shrimp with celeriac very heavy on celeriac, so shrimp flavour weak. The microwaved dessert satisfactory. Wine list appropriate, but not inexpensive. Service good, but as sole diners this is not difficult. Probably better in evening,

First impression are good. Attentive staff and a good pint of beer. The menu looked interesting. I was the only one to try the starter of brown shrimps and celeriac. This consisted of about 6 brown shrimps on a bed of shredded celeriac. Just tasted of vinegar. The additional ingredient being a long strand of ginger hair. Very disappointing even...
