I stayed here in January of 2020. The hotel staff felt like family by the end of our stay. Free, homemade toiletries bag is given to each guest at the beginning of the stay. Walking distance to the local shops and restaurants, though far enough away to not get any noise during the night. The hotel is located at the top of a large, steep hill. I would advise guests that have large amounts of luggage or who cannot walk long, steep distances to organise transport to the hotel.
The staff and service is superb. Naomi and Jonas were excellent. The Japanese lady manager was super accommodating. Naomi was able to check us an hour earlier than expected, we arrived at 12pm. The rooms are clean and the bathroom was relatively big. We went to the onsen at about 1230pm and it had a beautiful view of the slopes. There was also nobody in the onsen at this time. The men’s are located on the 2nd floor and the women’s are on the 1st floor. The next day we woke up late and went to the onsen around 8am. And it was packed. We barely made it to breakfast at 850am (closes are 9am). The Japanese lady manager allowed us to enter the dining room and the staff brought back out the food for us.
On arrival at the hotel we found out that our travel agent had booked the incorrect dates for our stay. As the village was fully booked we were very concerned about the situation. The staff then kindly introduced us to Peter the hotel manager who worked quickly with his team to solve our whole situation. I cannot speak more highly of the team at the hotel. I have travelled extensively and the standard of service at this property matched anything I have experienced. The hotel is in a great location near the double chair and close to the main village centre. The Onsen on site is very large with a great view. I highly recommend it and we will definitely return!
This hotel is one of the best in town, the staff are lovely, it’s got easy access to the town and the mountain... but its greatest feature is the onsen. The view from the onsen across the valley is amazing. You could sit there all day and enjoy it. The hotel itself is a little dated, but that shouldn’t stop you from staying here, it’s warm, friendly and has everything you need.
I would definitely stay here again - the location is amazing and the people who work here are lovely and incredibly helpful. We got a western room with our own bathroom, which was great. We also used the Onsen regularly - it’s a bit older but absolutely fine. The fact it is located a short walk from the chair lift to the Hikegi area is great - and thanks to another reviewers’ recommendation of getting a ski pass and ski rental from places right at the top of this lose, we got those things done super easily. I would definitely recommend the rental place that is right by Hahnenkamm Lodge.
This is an extremely good hotel which only didn’t get five stars because it’s slightly old. We love the Onsen as it’s located with a beautiful view. The hotel is a slight hike from the village so I wouldn’t recommend it for family with children in prams. We have stayed here two years in a row! The breakfast spread is good with local and western selection to suit all taste bud. Because of the slightly higher location of the hotel, most rooms have lovely views of the mountains. To get here from Iiyama, take the local bus and not the Onsen liner as the local bus goes right in front of Shimataya.
Nozawa View Hotel is a good choice for a hotel with a view in Nozawa Onsen. The property is a bit dated, but we thought that only added to its charm. The men's onsen has a great view and is spacious. The women's is smaller without a view - more typical of hotel onsen. Service from the Japanese staff was excellent, but the European guys that work there are not as nice. Rooms are generally pretty large and very comfortable. All rooms have a toilet, but some don't have a shower/tub. The onsen is where you want to bathe anyways. Location is fine. There is no perfect location in Nozawa Onsen, but there are worse ones than this. All in all we would be happy to come back and stay here again.
The hotel is a proper Ryokan with futon beds, rice pillow, extreme hot duvet (usual Japanese style :P) and a insuite toilet (great highlight, most of ryokans in nozawa have shared bathroom and restrooms, so have a private one in your room is a luxury). Breakfast is Japanese style. However the ladies onsen was a bit disappointing, walls were covered in mold/dirt, first time that I saw anything like it in Nozawa or Japan, and I've been there 5 times in different hotels. Kind of environment that make you think if you are washing yourself in the proper place or if you would get dirtier from there. Still a good option in the city, close to the main St as well as the slopes, there is a hidden shortcut/lift to access the mountain, ask the hotel about it, so you avoid the escalator to the base.…
Half way through a ski trip in Nozawa and have determined that this is the perfect location. As it is very close to the Main Street but more important less than 100 metres flat to a small chairlift that takes you directly to a small and much less busy lift ticket office and great almost half price ski rental place run by one guy with not a lot of English but good service Then you simply ski down to the gondola and away you go In addition great onsens and free laundry at the hotel and the staff are very friendly Only reason I didn’t give it five stars is there was a mix up with the rooms initially but fixed eventually
A nice, rustic, comfortable place to stay. We caught the bus from Iiyama station, 600 yen per person which drops you in the town and it’s a short walk up the hill to the hotel. There was a misunderstanding about our room, 5 adults in one room but it was resolved and we had to pay extra which was reasonable. The hotel is comfortable and they have maintained it but also allowed it to age with grace, gives it character and authenticity. The rooms are nice, very nice tatami mats and the beds comfortable - traditional beds. They gift you an onsen bag for onsens outside the hotel which is nice. The onsen in the hotel is good and very welcome after a days skiing. Excellent breakfast and overall we all enjoyed our stay and we all agreed we would come back.
