If you're looking for a tranquil, cultural experience in Hakuba this is the perfect place to stay. Toshi and his family welcomed us into the inn which is also their beautiful family home with their big smiles and warm hearts. The home-cooked breakfasts (& dinners if you want) prepared by the mother were sensational and gave us a chance to...

Everything was just perfect. Food is fantasitc, we have dinners at the ryokan everyday. Futons are so comfy and warm, every inch of the hotel is perfectly clean, nice, and tidy. Staffs are excellent. They are friendly and helpful in everyway. Our kids love this place so much and will be back again.

Stayed 7 x nights at this traditional Onsen Ryoken. Family run (Toshi) made us feel at home and offered a wonderful professional stay. Food was first class (Toshi Mum). Location is spot on and February was a great time to visit to enjoy some great snow. Thanks guys.

Sadly my son broke his leg on first day 🙄 and hotel were fantastic taking him to the clinic and generally giving us lifts around the resort. The onsen is great but Japanese style male / female so no swimmies. Easy access to the...

Celebrated a friend's birthday with a wonderful traditional meal and kind hospitality at Shiroumasou. They provided beautiful kimono tops to wear on top of our clothes. Everything was delicious especially the rainbow trout and tempura! Thank you for the experience.

Stayed here for 1 night only before moving into rental house for family holiday. This place is very traditional and exactly what we were looking for. The onsen is great and the breakfast in the morning even better. Service from staff was excellent too. Certainly recommend this place and would stay here again.

Hard to top what has already been said . Before I speak about the Ryokan itself , the host family are simply incredible.. Hardly any wonder that Toshi-san won a manager of the year award last year , not only locally but globally. He is the manager but his whole family is involved - sister co - manages and mother...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Resting at the base of Hakuba Happo-one ski area, Shirouma-so is a modern Japanese ryokan (inn) combining both traditional wood and modern Japanese "Wa" architectural styles, resulting in a creative and beautiful design. From the entrance featuring wooden pillars and beams preserved from the building's agricultural beginnings in the Edo period, to rooms with large windows and views of the northern Alps, you can relax, place yourself in the hands of Nature, and refresh yourself in the warmth of this historical ryokan. Shiroumaso is appreciated by many guests as a convenient base for skiing, snowboarding, or the numerous outdoor activities of the summer months, as well as a hub for touring Shinshu, Azumino, and other regions within Nagano. ... more   less
