The ryokan was an older building, but kept up well with a traditional feel. The owners were really nice and gave us a delicious Japanese breakfast. They don't know English, but we communicated quite well with hand gesturing and a translating app in the phone. They offered a free ride to the monkey park or to/from the train station if we... More

It was our first ryokan and definitely the best. The family who runs the place is a most welcoming one: they gave my son a couple of fresh corn cob upon our arrival. I really loved our room, it was spacious and airy and full of light and there was a lovely veranda and a temple just in front of... More

I visited off-season, but far from being a disappointment I was pleasantly surprised to have the whole property almost exclusively to myself. The owners are truly delightful and friendly people and were genuinely interested in making me feel at home. The room is proper ryokan-style with a private view of the garden from the sitting room. The whole property has... More

The owners (an elderly couple & their adult son) were wonderfully warm & hospitable, despite language barriers. They picked us up from the station, took our luggage & insisted on dropping us off at a local street festival (which was fantastic!) Breakfast is a must (veg & vegan catered for). I had a note in Japanese explaining dietary restrictions which... More

This was by far the best place that I stayed while I was in Japan, it is quaint, quite and simply beautiful. Waking up with the snow falling over the small garden area is a memory that I will never forget. One of my favourite parts of this place is the family, they are the warmest, most helpful and friendly... More

Lovely hosts, they took me to the jikogudani park and delivered my luggage to the yudanaka station for free. Traditional and spacious room with heater. Hot onsen included. If you are not looking for luxurious hotel, this is the ryokan to stay.

This is a very old ryokan run by a Japanese family, papa, mama and their son, I believe - they are very warm and kind people, I believe you will love it once you see them yourself. as we arrived, grandpa slowly took out a "world map" and asked to confirm ´the city and country we came from and very... The lovely old couple running this onsen are truely treasures. This ryokan would be underwhelming if it was not for them. They are so hospitable and their son is very helpful too. The ryokan must have been a really special place in its day but sadly it is now somewhat run down. It is truly a piece of Japanese history... More

Wonderful option in the overpriced world of Japanese spa towns. You could not be any more comfortable here than in one of the many 300 dollar a night hotels. The family that run it are unbelievably warm and friendly and although their place could do with a lick of paint, you won't feel anything other than at home. It was... More

Friendly owners, comfortable rooms, hot onsen, beautiful old house and area and they were so nice to us helping us get to and from the station and the snow monkeys. Highly recommended for a relaxing break particularly for a couple. We didn't want to leave after our one night here!
