I would give our experience 6 out of 5 if I could. Difficult to express how much we loved the full experience of our stay. Firstly, if you are planning to see the snow monkeys this place is the only one in the area to consider - a short stroll to the park entry and then when you have seen enough of the monkeys you can quickly get back to this heavenly, quiet, getaway. The public onsen is beautiful. We also had a private onsen in our room that gave us options. The rooms are traditionally appointed with a lot of additional comforts; immaculate. Breakfast and dinner are provided - we stayed three days and could not get enough of the amazing and varied food. Soooo delicious! The service was magnificent - Ayaka and her team provided over the top service. We are hard pressed to recall such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Thank you Ayaka.

We enjoyed every relaxing and tranquil minute of our time at the onsen. A private bath was a definite highlight . The meals were made all the more delicious not only by their careful preparation but by the time our host took to explain the food to us. Each meal was beautiful to look at and eat. Sadly no snow monkeys but the comfort and pleasure of the onsen more than made up for their absence and the walk up to the park was stunning and the path easy. The lady looking after us made each aspect of staying at these wonderful places more enjoyable by explaining to us so carefully how to make the most of our time there. I would happily go back!

Heavenly place with amazing food for breakfast and dinner. Service is exceptional and so friendly. This is the most relaxing place I have ever stayed. If you are going to see the snow monkeys you cannot stay in a better place. Take the opportunity to walk to the old Onsen district to view lovely old buildings, shrines and public foot baths.

Jinpyokaku Honten is beautiful in every way and I can’t recommend it more highly. If you stay here, you will be very fortunate. From the warmth of Michiko’s welcome to the exquisite, peaceful and very comfortable interiors, to the delicious and beautiful food (presentation and taste something else, even by Japan standards) to the onsen (Heaven). The quiet forest surrounds make for lovely walks. We met the lady owner at the end and she was beautiful, elegant and full of love. I can’t help feeling the whole of Jinpyokaku Honten has been blessed by her touch.

Had such a great stay here at this little gem. The service was excellent, the food was amazing, and the location can't be beat for the snow monkey park. And the onsen, it was marvellous. Don't get many mixed onsen nowadays and it was nice to finally be able to soak with my partner and friends (a robe is provided to enter the water for decency so dun worry).

Highly recommended and worth the detour from Hakuba/tokyo.

Upon arrival to yudanka station, we were picked up by them and were greeted at the front entrance of the ryokan.
Ive never experienced such top quality customer service before, i was definitely amazed by their kindness and overflowing politeness
I would definitely recommend ! Very close to the monkey park and the onsen is beautiful
The dinner and breakfast made me speechless, dinner was a half board and breakfast was a mix of western and of japanese style
The room was a cosy traditional japanese styled room
They even provided boots for our trip to the snow monkey park as it was snowing (which was very useful or my sneakers would have gotten muddy) and they made sure our experience was a great memorable one
Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a full japanese cultural experience !!

Our stay at Jinpyokaku Ryokan was truly an incredible experience
We were extremely impressed by the kindness of the staff, by the gracious owner who is also a wonderful chef and the premisses which can rival any 5 stars hotels. We would recommend without hesitation to whoever is looking for a place to relaxed, be pampered and wash away any stress
Location : located near Snow monkey park, in a very quiet street at walking distance from Shibu Onsen village. Easy access to Shiga Kogen for wonderful hiking experience during the fall or skiing activities during winter.
Premisses and Facilities :
Our room was spacious, so relaxing, with traditional elegant decoration yet simple, with all the modern confort (Free Wifi, strong signal, air con, fridge etc...). It comes with a private stone onsen and Jacuzzi and sitting areas so we can enjoy the view while sipping our tea
The public onsen (with mixed gender area) is well landscaped and appointed with all the amenities you would need
Food :
Diners and Breakfast were simply out of this world. Kaseiki dinners consist of 10-14 dishes, sourced with fresh local products. Starting with appetisers with traditional sake (the one brewed in the shabu village) then a piece of Sashimi, then some small dishes, pickles, various dishes with sauces, soup to rince the palate, grilled fishes, shinshu beef and rice etc...the quality of the products, the beautiful presentation, the graciousness of the service were truly overwhelming. We stayed 5 days, and during this period, none of the dishes were identical, which is truly amazing.
Staff : the staff is the most lovely and eager to make everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The chef is a dynamic gracious lady who draw herself the daily menu and cooked marvellous dishes.

Overall this is truly a amazing stay, that worths every penny. We are coming back for winter activities and Jinpyokaku ryokan is our home away from home base.

A quiet 6 room traditional Japanese Ryokan that provides for an authentic and fairly luxurious experience. We stayed in a superior suite that was roomy and comfortable with its own private Onsen. The shared Onsen had a mixed sex area out among the rocks with very warm water and a mildly sulfurous odor. After the bath we had a delicious home cooked banquet in a private, esthetic dining room.
Only a 30 minutes walk to the snow monkey pool, this Ryokan was a lovely overnight stay to experience the attraction.

We stayed two nights at this ryokan.. Arriving on a bitterly cold afternoon with occasional snow flurries. We stayed in a different room each night (at my request) as the room I had been most intrigued by was only available one night. Both traditional Japanese rooms were beautiful but what made this the most wonderful stay were the charming and helpful staff, the fabulous food cooked by the owner and the attention to detail and small touches that made us feel happy and at home (which included putting ceramic hot water bottles in our beds to warm them up!) The kaiseki meals were the best we had on our three week holiday, local ingredients - juice from the regions tasty apples, gorgeously delicate home made soups, the beef shabu-shabu was to die for.

The onsen was lovely too, we got up early for pre- breakfast bathing and had it to ourselves both mornings. Bathing in the hot pool with snowflakes gently cooling my face is an experience I will never forget.

We stayed here to visit the famous snow monkeys nearby, touristy but fun. It is worth staying for the ryokan alone.. The monkeys are an interesting bonus!

I hesitated a lot when I was booking the hotel, because two night at this ryokan cost more than 5 other nights in Airbnbs during the rest of our trip. But I am so glad I did, because it was such an amazing experience! First of all, the ryokan looks magical in the winter, with soft, powdery snowfall. Even though it has been around for 100+ years, the room and facilities are extremely well-kept. The bathroom is so spacious and beautiful with an in-room onsen, and quality skincare products. Futons were very comfortable, and I had one of the best sleeps in my life. Outdoor onsen was the highlight of the stay for me. It's beautiful, and I never realised what an experience it is to soak in an onsen!

As cold as the weather was when we visited, we experienced such warm hospitality from the staff when we visited. Service was really impeccable, but also sincere. We had such great conversations during meals, and we learnt a lot about the Japanese culture through them. Oh, and the food? Mind-blowing! The owner is an excellent cook. We had 4 meals, and tried so many local ingredients cooked to perfection.

Location is excellent too. It is walking distance to the monkey park (worth a visit for sure), and a 20 mins bus ride to Shiga Kogen Ski Park.

Would definitely recommend you to book a stay here if you are visiting Nagano! My boyfriend and I are half-serious about booking a trip to Japan every year just to stay at this ryokan...

This ryokan is not located in Shibu Onsen area although you can go there about 5 minutes ride by taxi from this ryokan. Keys to the 9 public baths are offered only to who stays in Shibu Onsen area, so you can not have the keys if you stays at this ryokan. But anyone have a key to the biggest public bath (named O-YU) from 10:00 to 16:00 by paying 500 yen at Shibu Onsen information center. If you want to experience traditional Japanese onsen culture and feel atmosphere in old Japanese onsen town, Irecommend you to once go there,

You are taken to a special room of your own for food service. It was quite amazing. The highlight of our culinary experience in Japan. I think you agree on a time for dinner.

It was outdoors, but like a built in patio with wooden slats for privacy and a door that went into a room with a hand basin and that room had a door that linked to the toilet and a corridor on to other rooms of the accommodation. I would describe were we stayed as more of an apartment, than a room and the apartment was only for us, not shared facilities.

konnitiwa. Monkeys are descending from the mountain almost every day. January February has many snow and cold so monkeys often enter hot springs. Arigatou gozaimasu. From Jinpyokaku
