One of the most special places I've ever stayed. Lovely ryokan with very friendly staff who pay attention to the smallest details - for example my husband is very tall so they immediately supplied him with the right sized slippers and kimono, and in the evening when they laid out our futons his was a special extra long one. Definitely...

Extremely nice place in Shibu Onsen. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. The Onsens in the Ryokan were a great way to relax after walking around all day in the cold or after skiing. The hotel will provide complimentary transport to and from Yudanaka station based on your schedule.

Stayed here for two nights and it was amazing! We got a room with private outdoor onsen bath on the balcony. Could've just stayed in there all day! Would highly recommend getting any of the rooms with your own onsen bath. Even without a private onsen there are many baths within the ryokan that you can use, all with different...

We went to the Snow Monkey Park and wanted to stay in an onsen hotel nearby. Instead of going to the better known onsen town Yudanaka, we chose Shibu Onsen because it seems to be more compact and has nine public bath houses that come from different sources and with different medical effects. And the street is well-lit even at...

My partner and I stayed at Kokuya in late November and we were blown away with the whole experience! The food, service, onsens, accommodation, everything! We loved our stay here. We booked a room with a private onsen, where we were upgraded to a room with a private onsen and a Japanese garden. The room was absolutely beautiful. All the...

Japan was incredibly welcoming, but even this was eclipsed by the welcome we received at Kokuya. We were met at the train station and ferried to the hotel in their minibus. On arrival, we were made to feel very welcome by Erico (her husband is the 16th generation owner of the ryokan which has been there for 400 years!). She...

We were blown away by the hospitality, food, accommodation, everything here. It was 2 days of bliss as we were pampered by the attentive but unobtrusive staff. The baths were clean and maintained well. The food was incredible and way more than could possibly be eaten (though we tried) of the "Kaiseki Ryori" type. The price seemed much more reasonable...

The hotel is excellent. The staff goes over the top to make the visit pleasant and smooth. And the food is simply amazing. The diner was an eleven course, Japanese style of course. And the one better than the other. The breakfast was awesome. Another chapter is the bathing experience. Please come and check it yourself. You won't regrets the...

Helpful and friendly the staff from checkin, through dinner, breakfast and check out. Cannot say thank you enough for how special they made us feel. Rooms (not an expert on Japanese ryokan) nicely set out with loads of space. Food amazing if you stay for the dinners and the breakfasts both Japanese and western. Highly recommended as a place to...

The hosts of this property are trying hard with explaining all things Japanese when staying at this ryokan. Particularly impressive was the daily menu written in English as eating a multi course dinner at a ryokan is a feature of the stay. Choose the Japanese selection for both dinner and breakfast for a treat of local produce. There are many...
