I stayed at the Flame of the Forest with a bunch of friends, and all of us absolutely loved our stay here. The first thing one notices about the resort is the location. Breathtakingly perched on one of the banks of Banjar River, the resort is remote and far from the crowd at the Khatia Gate. The campus is studded with several indigenous plants, and as a result is an abode for many bird species. Karan, the owner, was a gracious host and was always present at the reception area when we came back from the safaris or came for drinks and dinner in the evening, to check on our comfort. He hosted most of the meals while we stayed, and always had interesting stories and anecdotes from the forest and the area to share. Amit, the naturalist at the lodge, was also always up for a lively discussion about the wildlife of Kanha, enriching our experience at Kanha, and the lodge. The rest of the staff also had a warm smile always, and cared about our minutest of needs. The food at the lodge was also amazing. Locally sourced vegetables prepared in delectable dishes would surely leave you craving for more. The Khatia entry gate of Kanha (which one would almost always use for the safaris while staying at the Flame of the Forest) is about 10 km drive from the resort, but most of the road is concrete and a very comfortable drive. As for the transport to and from the lodge - we had travelled to and from Nagpur airport, a five hours drive with super comfortable roads throughout. One thing I can say about the lodge to sum up the review, when you are leaving from Flame of the Forest, you will surely leave with a lot of fond memories and zero regrets.

My two sons and I spent a very memorable four days at Flame, and we have to thank Flame's hospitality and especially Amit for his warm company and for sharing his rich knowledge and experience as our naturalist. His passion and enthusiasm of the outdoors is contagious. We have done our fair share of safaris within and outside India, but as I have always said, nothing beats the excitement and yet peace in the Indian forest. Kanha and "Flame of the forest" reinforced this. Having been to Kanha five years ago, we were very clear we didn't want the typical safari lodge experience, despite the comforts most reputed lodges offer. The exclusivity of four cottages offering all the comforts, location of each with a stunning river view, and the overall 'homely' experience only like-minded guests would respect and enjoy, assured us of making the right choice by choosing to stay at Flame. The gorgeous view of the Banjar river also from the open dining and reception area, warm hot chocolate, coffee or masala chai after an evening safari or delicious lemonade after a morning safari, hot snacks & soup around a bonfire every evening, and being pampered by absolutely delicious 'homely' dinners and lunches, where Deepak the fabulous chef outdid himelf ...and not to forget a chocolate cake he so sweetly baked for my boys, all in all was an experience that left us feeling very warm, enriched and humbled. We look forward to returning to enjoy the flowering of the flame of the forest and Mahua trees while enjoying a cuppa overlooking the Banjar river! Oh and by way, we not only enjoyed two fantastic tiger sightings a few meters from our jeep on 2 safaris out of 5, besides a nature walk, we learned so much more about the bird species, ungulates, insects and trees thanks to Amit. A splendid and very memorable experience! Thank you Flame, and a special thank you to Amit, Deepak, the Dharam & Chainsingh duo, Rohit and all the rest of the Flame family! God bless you all, and may you continue to thrive and share your warmth. We missed meeting you Karan! Next time.

Karan, Rohith, Amit, Dharam, Dhansingh and everyone else at @flame.safari possess the grace which comes with living amidst pristine nature. They also have the good fortune of sharing it with visitors to their place. Visitors who become friends by the time they leave. If you want to be with nature, don’t look beyond this piece of paradise which is inhabited by kind hearted beings. A visit is bound to open up new portals - such as my son’ new found love for photography or my spouse’ interest in birding. Safe travels.

We’ve been visiting FOTF for a couple years and it truly has been an amazing experience each visit. Literally home away from home. We were recently there couple weeks ago. The 20 acre property, owned and run by Isa and karan (who have now become family) have 4 massive luxurious cottages by the river, each built with eco/ sustainable material, with a large patio + a day bed to soak in the sun and stunning views of the river. The staff (from the local village) are humble, friendly, always smiling and go out of their way to pamper you. Food is divine, they serve a wide range of cuisines.. All freshly made with local produce, some of it grows in their property. Big up to the chef! They’ve got amazing naturalists Dhan Singh, Amit and Rohit. Passionate guys! They’ve got brillant skills and knowledge about the forest and ecosystem. We did a couple nature walks with them and saw heaps of different species of birds in and around the lodge. If you’re not into safaris, It still is a perfect place for solitude. they host yoga retreats and wellness retreats as well, all by the river! All in all a fabulous space, can’t wait to be back!

We visited Kanha and stayed in Flame of the Forest(FOTF) in November, 2021. This was our infant’s first trip. The stay at FOTF made the trip worth remembering. The staff assisted us every step of the way with making the food separately suitable for her and also helped us with other little little additional things required for her. The place, is a perfect example of luxury in nature. The lack of phone network, tv and landlines in the room - ‘forces’ people to spend time with their loved ones. Evening bonfires helped us meet new and amazing people during our stay there. The open shower, balcony facing the Banjar river, personal machan in every room and the overall aesthetics of the room are very beautifully done. The naturalist - Mr. Amit is extremely passionate about his job and that benefits people like us. He shared a lot of knowledge with us during the safaris. It was such a pleasure to have his acquaintance. The owner of the place, although not around during our stay, was extremely generous with complimentary acts all through our stay. TL;DR version - you shouldn’t look for any other place to stay when in Kanha. Flame of the forest is it!

Our stay at the Flame of the Forest ( an apt name for the safari lodge ) was absolutely fantastic. We were two couples... stayed for a week...(clearly NOT ENOUGH)... just returned last night. What fascinated me was that only natural materials & elements were used in the decor & detail of the entire lodge. Nestled between the forest & a river bank, this place is a paradise for a Nature Lover... the rooms are cosy & comfortable...very unusual shower areas...made of wooden logs & stones. The evening campfire with yummy starters & drinks was something we loved. The owners Karan & Isa, naturalist Mohan & the entire staff are a fantastic team...I learnt so much about animals, birds, insects, plants & trees. Now I’m seeing everything around me in a different light. The Safari was very interesting & the tiger sighting was a phenomenal experience... nothing else compares to the thrill of seeing a wild tiger in its natural habitat. The food here was like eating at home...simple & tasty. I’m waiting to return here with my kids ( my son & his wife ) & let them experience what we enjoyed doing. Thank you team of Flame of the Forest...you guys are the BEST !!! ( Missing Chaitram aka Chatram & his hilarious quips & Dharam’s laughter 😄)

Flame of the Forest Lodge in Kanha was our first outing since December of 2019 for my family - Wife and 2 kids (9 and 7 yr olds). The lodge has only 4 cottages (by design, I must say) and we stayed in Cottage 2. We stayed at the Lodge from Dec 21st to Dec 25th. There were only 3 other travelers at the Lodge at that time. We couldnt have picked a better place during COVID-19 times. The Cottage was spacious with large bathroom, an outdoor shower, an outdoor machan and multiple sitting areas to enjoy the river view, bird life and the nature. The staff are excellent, well trained and on-time with all the activities (be it 5:30 AM wake-up call, breakfast, lunch or dinner). We had Lunch / Dinner at 4 different locations on the property (See the photos). Meals were great and local without heavy usage of cream, adding to the homestay experience. Naturalists, Mohan and Arka, were great. We went to village walk, River walk and Kanha Nature Trail Walk with one or both of them. We did 4 safaris in Kanha National Park (1 in Mukki, 3 in Kanha zones) with Arka. He was great, explaining the forest, animal behaviors, photograph tips and more. Most of all being patient with the kids. We enjoyed the fireside chats, the warm conversations and wonderful (but cold) weather with the fellow travelers, Karan (owner), Arka and Mohan. Highly recommend it. Will visit again.... Highly recommend the place.

Flame of the Forest is located in a stunning spot on a bend in the river, and the main building and the guest cottages are beautifully designed in keeping with the setting. The cottages are very comfortable and well equipped, with thoughtful touches such as a variety of outdoor sitting and lounging areas and both an outdoor and indoor shower. The atmosphere at the lodge is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. There is a real family feel, with many of the guests having visited numerous times. In the evening the owner Karam and his wife Isa, together with the naturalists, join the guests for pre-dinner drinks and snacks around a campfire and afterwards for dinner around one large table. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the lodge and the people involved with it, as well as to discuss the day’s activities and sightings. The naturalists are superb. We spent all four days of our trip with Arko who is incredibly knowledgable and enthusiastic and a very talented tracker, as well as being very good company. Our sightings of tigers were extraordinary and unforgettable, and we were also luck enough to see wild dogs as well as many other species of mammal and bird. We could completely understand why Flame of the Forest attracts so many repeat visits. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Flame of the Forest is in a beautiful riverside location. The staff are great, making us feel really welcome, the food was good and the guides brilliant. Apart from the safaris in Kanha it was so interesting going on local walks in the grounds, the nearby village and in the river itself. We'd thoroughly recommend it and wish we could have stayed longer.
