Had a picture perfect escapade at Camp Dev Vilas. Thumbs up for the warm hospitality, friendly staff and delicious food. The cottages are spacious and comfortable. A swing beneath the huge Mahua tree was my cozy spot at the property. A little more landscaping can add that wow factor to the whole experience.
Camp Dev Vilas is a beautiful jungle camp nestled in Kareli village near the Mukki Gate. The gorgeous property houses about ten cottages sprawled over it's fields and camouflaged by wild lemongrass the height of trees! At night, with the lights off you can spot fireflies this time of the year. The cottages with the faux tent roofs and an extra powder room are quaintly colonial and very very comfortable. The property is ably managed by it's manager Saily, who is one of the few women in the business. Saily knows her property line she fits the jungles - which is very very well. The forests of Kanha are magical and captivating but team Dev Vilas (Saily and our driver Irfan) ensured each safari was comfortable and memorable. We forged friendships with Saily and our other guests and spent memorable evenings swapping stories of the forest! Unlike a hotel stay, at Dev Vilas we were able to soak up the culture of the place and get a better understanding of the forest around us. The property did not have Airtel network connectivity, but benefits immensely from a nearby jio tower. Service is fantastic and our hosts ensured we have everything we needed including a jio dongle. And we were able to Instagram the tigers we were fortunate enough to spot (not that social media is a priority at all!). We particularly enjoyed trips with our hosts to the neighbouring village savouring chat and samosas - the local delicacies. The tasty food at Camp Dev Vilas is worth a mention. Some of their produce is farm to table. While there, you must have a dinner under the jackfruit tree next to a bon fire warming you in the biting cold of January for an experience to remember. If you love wildlife, Camp Dev Vilas is an excellent base to experience it to the fullest. …
