We (me and wife) stayed 3 nights at Baghira Log Huts in the last week of May 2011. Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience. However, there are very specific reasons why Baghira may or may not be the right choice for you. You may want to consider the following:

1. Location : Baghira is located inside the Kisli gate at Kanha. Now, this is both good and bad. The good --- 1) We get to live inside the jungle... surrounded by a variety of wild animals including wild dogs, sambar dears and bisons (especially so during the summer - see attached pics). 2) Moreover, we save on safari costs because we don't have to pay an entry fee every time we enter the jungle. We saved about Rs. 600/- (~US$14) everyday because of this advantage.

The not-so-good --- 1) There is not much to do there when you are not out on a safari. But rest assured, if you get busy with two safaris a day, this will not be a problem. 2) Also, the Baghira guys tend to use location as an excuse for just about any sloppiness in service... be it tardy housekeeping or longish power cuts. We were checked into a messy room and it took some effort and time to get the room cleaned (this problem did not repeat though).

2. Language: while the staff is usually very helpful, knowing Hindi (the local language) makes life easier! The front office guys are very fluent with English and they manage the show well -- but the rest of the support staff will tune out pretty much any information supplied in English. If you can, speak the local language, treat the boys with due courtesy and appreciation for their 'hard' work... and you'll be assured of superlative service! :)

3. Food: the cuisine is very typically North/Central Indian. During our stay, buffet meals hardly had any continental options (not too sure if a la carte would be any better). A buffet meal, for example, would include freshly made 'chapatis' (flat, round bread made of wheat flour), white rice or 'pulao' (aromatic rice cooked with vegetables), 'matar-paneer' (green peas+cottage cheese), dal/chhole/rajma (lentils/white grams/kidney beans), seasonal vegetables, green salad, 'papad' (a roasted/fried snack made of beaten gram and spices), and a dessert such as ice cream, 'kheer' (sweetened rice long-boiled with milk), 'gulab jamun' (sugary sweet balls) etc. Sandwiches were a regular in breakfasts. While we loved the food throughout our stay... you'll likely be disappointed if you want a good continental spread (or even basic South Indian food!).

4. Power Supply: there were scheduled power cuts during the day (somewhere between 11a.m. and 4p.m.) while we were at Baghira. This appears to be a regular feature. Baghira has a power generator that usually supports fans and lights but not airconditioning. If you decide to stay in rather than do a safari during those hours, the summer heat can be kind of annoying.

My personal opinion...
Baghira seems to be worth the trouble despite all its imperfections. It does not score very high on the 'value-for-money' criterion (the rooms/amenities are fairly basic for the price charged), but then nobody else in Kanha can offer you the experience of living so close to the wilderness. If you go prepared with the knowledge of what to expect and can live with a few little annoyances here and there, Baghira can be a really memorable stay!

1. We chose the hot summer month of Apr 2015 for a visit to the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
2. We stayed at “BAGHIRA LOG HUTS” which is operated by MP Tourism
3. Baghira Log Huts is located inside forest about 5 Kms from the Kisli gate (entry point to Kanha Zone, Kisli Zone and Sarhi Zone). THE LOCATION IS SUPERB.
4. The rooms are fitted with queen size beds and are comfortable.
5. There is no television in the rooms.
6. All the 16 rooms at the resort are fitted with air conditioners.
7. The food is really simple but tasty.
8. The resort packs breakfast (Poha, Bread & Omlette). Breakfast can be eaten at the Kanha Centre Point (where a Museum can be visited. Also toilets are available at the Centre Point)
9. Alcohol is also served at the resort and basic stuff is available.
10. The resort has Generators to support in case of electricity failure. Only the lights & fans can be operated with the Generator.
11. The toilets are neat and clean. A western toilet, shower and wash basin are the highlights of the bathroom cum toilet.
12. For the winter months, they have ear marked an area for bon fire.
13. Even though it is a government owned resort, the hotel staff is very courteous and make sure the tourists have a good time. After every safari, they show their concern by asking whether we have seen the tiger.
14. KUDOS TO THE HOTEL MANAGER (Mr. Nayak) for taking care of the tourists.
15. The resort arranges for the jeep for the safari (it is better to make a online booking for the jeep safari entry charges)
16. Langur, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer can be seen at the resort itself. We also saw a herd of Indian Gaur walk through the resort in the late evening. On 19th Apr 2015 evening, a Leopard was seen from room number 1 (not seen by us as we were doing a jeep safari !!!!!)
17. OVERALL A VERY COMFORTABLE STAY AT THE RESORT.

Kanha, the land of Barasingha , only place in this globe where Barasingha’s are found. After 4:30 hrs of journey from Nagpur we reached Kanha. The roads are very good.

Kanha is divided in Core Zone and Buffer Zone.

Local people are staying in buffer zone and even all the hotels are lying in Buffer Zone only.

Entry to core zone is restricted and allowed only and when entry ticket is purchased from forest department. One need to enter core area to visit this park. Core Area is divided in three Ranges Kisli (Kanha), Mukki & Sarahi, all these three ranges together forms Kanha Nahtional Park. There is only one hotel which is lying inside the forest (Core Area) i.e. Baghira log huts which belongs to MP Tourism.

I have travelled in the month of June 2011, to my surprise the forest is lush green even in this summer. However we are lucky enough rain god shown his mercy and it was raining like cats and dogs. This rain forced mercury to dip from 36 degree Celsius to 26 degree Celsius .

This resort has 16 room in 2 blocks each block is having 8 rooms and the distance between these two blocks is 200 meter

Room no 1-8 are very close to Restaurant some 25 mtrs which is again separated from room block

Room No 9-16 are in second block and little far from restaurant, one need to walk down 150 mtrs to reach restaurant to have food, and at night its really scary. Deers can be seen from this stretch hence fear of tiger always there in one corner of your mind. But that’s the adventure of jungle stay and the reason why I choose this place to stay.

This hotel is not luxurious, but sufficiently clean , with a hot water supply. The beds are comfortable and Air conditioning system made my sleep comfortable.

The hotel offers Stay along with breakfast, lunch , evening tea and dinner which is necessary as well since there is no other place to have food. The hotels provides very good food well feels like cooked at home. Lunch includes 2 Veg, 1 Non Veg, Indian Bread, Rice , Pulses along with salad. This food is not luxurious but serves the need rather i would say food is very good.

The staffs are very good they can arrange every thing which is required to enter Park, which includes Park entry fee, Guide Fee and Gypsy hiring charges.

The Park opens in 2 phases Morning and evening . Morning Shift starts at 5:00 AM and ends at 11:00 AM and evening one starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 7:00 PM

The hotel staff is courteous enough and Provides Morning Tea and packs the breakfast by 5 AM so that you can start off your Park Visit.

Overall I can say this resort is worth opting and the best place to stay in Kanha, provided you want to have feel of the forest. I was able to see Deer from my room window, you can imagine the beauty of location.

Remember : Kanha remains closed from 1st July to 15th October.

arrived log huts(pre-booked)after a long drive from bandavgarh. though the roads in MP are mostly excellent the long trip took its toll.was disappointed to see the accommodation-may appeal to some as rustic, situated in core jungle area, but not me especially after stay at bandavgarh.rooms are small, sparsely furnished,no full size cabinet to hang clothes, large spiders and other insects happily residing in the room had to be evicted.the view is very good from the room-one can see deers, sambhars and langoors roaming around the accommodation. toilet/bathroom average with smelly towels(it is washed locally), only one set of soap or toiletries for two people even face towel was only one.room 9-16( stayed in room 10) is situated away from the main area which is about 200 mtrs and is reached after walk through jungle. of course management was kind enough to provide jeep during the night.although we had booked in feb. we did not get room in the main area but in let us say annexe.why i do not know.the staff initially not very helpful but later became more responsive.no tea or coffee service in room.buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner but quality of food did not compare with those of white tiger forest lodge and items too were limited.if one goes for safari in morning breakfast is packed and given to carry. one thing i have to admit if you wanted morning tea at 5 am you get it at 5 am.
the safari, main reason to visit kanha,is mostly outsourced.the jeep comes from outside.since entry to the area opens at the time entry to the jungle starts, one looses time as the jeep comes in takes you to the gate, paperwork (done by the drivers at bandavgarh) verified, passengers identified and then the jeep drives back for jungle entry. time lost easily 30-45 minutes.though we booked in feb but did not get MP tourism jeep( as in Bandavgarh), while others were lucky enough to be assigned MP tourism jeep.fishy.some drivers are surly eager to finish their round while some were good and friendly. did not see any big cat during three trips to the different zones of the jungle. luck??or poor guidance.the zones you book through MP tourism you are not assigned.

We stayed at Baghira Log Huts for 3 days in April 2015. Location was Awasome. It is located 3 km inside the forest @ Kisli zone. We stayed in the room no 9,10 & 11. Those rooms are little far from the restaurant. But Night walk for Dinner was very exciting. Every day we found a group Indian Gour, wild Bore & deers on the side of the walk way, some time in the pathway as well. Room no. 1-8 is closer to restaurant. We had 24 hour visits by deers, langurs and Indian Gour (Bison) & jackals in the premises of the resort. Rooms are very good bigger in size. Toilets are clean with geyser. Restaurant was good. Only we found less variety of food in compare to other MP Forest Resorts. Enjoy life without a TV and mobile connectivity for a few days and i am sure you will not be thinking about this because the thrill of sighting wildlife and tigers is so great.

This MP Tourism hotel is located inside the forest and is a very different experience from a normal resort and is unique in many ways. It is almost 8km inside the core area and the jungle is around you. There are no other outdoor activities but there is wildlife and nature to observe from upclose which is the main purpose of going to Kanha. Food and service is good.

EXCELLENT..... U will not require anything more than this. One of its kind hotel in the middle of the forest in the core area. All the other hotels are outside the forest and this is the one inside the forest. On top of it the hotel has no fencing so the animals can be seen and also can hear the sounds in the forest area by sitting in the balcony of the room. The place is very safe for adults as well as kids. Food is awesome and the staff is very cooperative. Hotel staff has a very good idea as to where the tiger can be spotted and we were able to spot the biggest tiger of kanha forest because of them. 3 days went very fast and we wanted to stay more. Overall a best place to stay.

I visited this place last year and was there for two nights. it lies in the core area in Kanha National park and you can see deers, buffaloes, Jackal running past you. A very well maintained place with good service. The staff is very courteous and they take care of their guests really well. The only drawback is that their rooms are very small so if you are planning to stay 3 people in one room then it might become very cramped. But other than that once you check-in to this resort you are in safe hands. they will take care from waking you up in the morning with hot Tea/Coffee to night dinner.
Definitely gonna come back here again and again!!!

Traveling with our young son and my mom-in-law to Kanha, we were looking for a place that wasn't roughing it, had decent location and food, and was right for our budget. Someone recommended Baghira Log huts at Kisli - we were quite skeptical about government run places, but opted for this one and the experience ws totally worth it..! From Mumbai one has to take a flight to Nagpur, and thereon by car (5-6 hrs) to Kisli. If possible, do not opt for the tour operators recommended by MP tourism (their cars are not very well maintained) - instead try to find a local operator with a good fleet. At Kisli, Baghira Log Huts is the only accommodation located inside the gates. The location is truly great - surrounded by the Sal forest with a waterhole and visiting wild animals that can be viewed from your porch if you've opted for an AC room. Not all mobiles work as the signal is weak. At night it gets really dark and you can hear wild animals, so you must not venture into the meadow unless you want to be game! The rooms are clean with hot water and clean sheets changed every day. Room size is good and can accommodate an extra bed. The dining area is close to the AC rooms. Food is good - but if you are a vegetarian, there aren't many choices if you are packing b'fast for early morning safaris. The staff is helpful and courteous and will help you with what you need. Bear in mind that this isn't a 5-star resort, so if you are expecting luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you like adventure and want a great location with decent accommodation and food , this is absolutely the place to be.

What we liked best : location of Baghira Log Huts.
What we liked least : breakfast on safaris and the unnatural 'Tiger show' - its more exciting to see the tiger in its natural territory doing what it does best !

Everyone raves about this being the only accomodation actually inside Kanha national park. Yes, this is true, but it is government run, poorly designed and has not very good service.

Firstly, these are NOT log huts - they are buildings made of concrete bricks half-heartedly covered with fake logs on the outside. The rooms are not spacious and the cleanliness of the bathrooms is as you would expect form government accomodation - not very clean. The roof, far from being grass thatched and natural is made of green coloured corrugated plastic. The poor design mean the hut gets very hot and you have to run a loud clattering air conditioner - so forget hearing the natural sounds and the animal calls of the jungle at night.

It is nice to be inside the park - we saw bison at night and monkeys and deer nearby. It just feels a shame that such a fantastic location has been squandered on a poorly designed accomodation.

If they gave me the same location I would build natural wooden huts with verandahs on all sides equipped with rocking chairs facing the green jungle. The verandah would provide shade to the walls and a natural insulated roof would keep the place cool, eliminating the need for air-conditioning. Mosquito nets on all the windows would mean you could leave them open and sleep to the natural sounds of the jungle.

No such luck here - small unclean hot rooms with tin roves, windows looking at other accommodation in instead of the jungle, and a loud energy wasting air conditioner !
