Called in on the offchance after a long journey, most welcoming staff, a roaring log fire in the lounge, we relaxed with a light lunch. So impressed we returned later in the week for dinner, fantastic food, beautifully served.

Old fashioned house turned into hotel , large fire in main hall, small bar, restaurant Really underated, food alone worth a visit, it is marginally expensive, but you Cannot buy old style class and sophistication. Staff cannot do enough for Guests and diners.

We chose this hotel as part of our son's 18th birthday celebrations and it was an excellent choice. The beautiful panelled walls just ooze history and yet there is a feeling of homeliness. This is also generated by the friendly staff, who happily attend to your every need. We dined here too and the food was great even when an...

We staid here on 25th February. Staff fantastic. Our room was at the front with views over the town. Food in the restaurant was excellent with huge portions so watch how many courses you order. The whole setting is great with the main hall the focus . Definitely on our ' go back to ' list

We had afternoon tea and it was delicious. The surroundings are gorgeous and we got to view some rooms and I will definitely be staying at some point. Log fires and the Victorian settings of all rooms was simply stunning.

A lovely large old hotel. The previous comments made on here are accurate. The lounge area is cosy due to the large open fire. There is a beautiful staircase and oak panelled walls. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Although we just utilised the restaurant, it would have been lovely to stay at this hotel. The decor is...

We just returned from a 2 night stay and had the most wonderful service from every member of staff. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed and furnished in a country house style. The food was exceptionally good, including the best porridge we have eaten. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. As another reviewer has already mentioned,...

We loved everything about our December wedding. The main room with its beautiful Christmas tree was spectacular, the rooms were gorgeous, the food was hearty and we felt completely at home. Xhosa was extremely helpful during the lead up to the wedding and her calming presence on the day was very reassuring. We partied till the early hours and Xhosa's...

The building is a very impressive gothic house- the roaring fire in the central room is very atmospheric and the dining rooms are very beautifully decorated. However the very best thing about this place is the service - when we asked when breakfast was served, we were told "whenever you want", which is an absolute luxury when you want to...
