Thanks to the team for a lovely overnight stay. Dinner, bed and breakfast well worth the value. We had the taster menu and it didn't fail to deliver on tantalising tastes. The observatory was amazing with a beautiful clear night to see Orions belt and the milky way. We love the log cabins and the recycling of natural products. We...

On arrival at the hotel we were warmley greeted by a member of staff and shown to our room which was quite dated and in need of refurbishing. The exterior of the hotel is a building site but it is difficult to carry out building work without some disruption and access to the car park was not restricted nor was access...

We booked this via Travel Zoo as a weekend break with taster menu included. On arrival we were greeted to what look like a building site. The car park is tricky to access but sat in the car and decided not to let this first impression spoil the experience. On entering the property the receptionist was on hand to greet...

Atmosphere super, cosy pubby, staff very efficient, knowledgeable, friendly and good fun. Rooms comfortable and well appointed. The food was something else, each course tantalised the tastebuds, absolutely fabulous! Thanks to the girls from the Czech Republic who worked so hard to make it enjoyable. The garden is a haven for birds, the 'green' policy is amazing and the huge...

As two couples, we booked their Taster Menu 2 nighter weekend via TravelZoo. We also included (as a cost extra) a session in the Observatory, 100 metres behind the hotel. The rooms we were allocated were a little cramped, but you have to expect that when you pack king size beds into rooms that were adequate in size 100 years...

Booked a 3 night weekend stay through Secret Escapes but never having used them before, we weren't sure what to expect, and when on arrival saw the extension work going on, we thought the worse. Just shows how first impressions can be so wrong. Things change as soon as you go through the front door, the hotel has been tastefully...

We went to Battlesteads on a "deal" and were not disappointed. The room (No 8), did face the main road but traffic noise was not a problem until around about 7am. We had chosen the 8 course taster menu and all courses were presented with an explanation and were exceptional. Obviously a little drop of wine also had to be...

early Christmas present and did not disappoint. Overall really good. Staff friendly, rooms clean and comfortable, observatory good although cloudy night unfortunately. Garden and conservatory fantastic. Breakfast amazing. Did not really enjoy the 8 course meal as too long and some of the dishes not to my taste. Will visit again.

Lots of good things about this hotel but it scores low if you're vegetarian. Our package included the 8 course taster menu. I naively thought that a menu was something from which you selected, but no, this is totally fixed and included two very meaty courses, a fish course, and as luck would have it, beetroot and goat's cheese, both...
