Came here for Sunday lunch with friends on the weekend just gone. We had great service from a lovely lady, who seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a nice time. She looked after us really well. We were a party of 5 yet still got given our own private room which was really good. In some places this...

We stayed in a triple room, it was very clean and neat. Our decision to go was all about the food not the rooms. We were not disappointed the food was really good. The bar and lounge area were so warm and welcoming with all the wood burners. I think there were four. Pia and Sharon were friendly, kind and...

Visited with friends last Friday and the meal and service were excellent. Not a great fan of fish and chips but was really glad I decided to try it - I don't think I have ever seen such a large portion of fish on a plate!! Will look forward to returning again soon.

The prawn cocktail was not the greatest but the mains were made up for this they are very good, I would have scored them a 4 or 5 but the cheese and biscuits...

I visited this pub on Saturday 13th January 2017. This is a lovely country pub which serves a good range of fine food. The staff are amazingly friendly and it's a pub well worth a visit. 4 stars fro me....highly recommended.

Wow, what an amazing friendly atmosphere and fantastic food. I can't write any more highly about my experience. My mum, dad and myself had a lovely meal together (which we don't get chance to do very often) which was most enjoyable. We will most definitely be returning and hope my review entices more to try this place out. Thankyou again...

The staff were at the core of our lovely weekend break. Everyone was so welcoming. We had a similar deal al Marco Pierre White Rudloe and the food at the Bear was far superior. On the first night we were disappointed as the steaks had run out so we had to have the lamb and the hake. So glad we...

Stayed here on a travelzoo deal for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed. Very comfy bed, clean room, good food. Would definitely stay here again. There were some areas that were quite cold like the corridors, but this wasn't an issue for us.

The Bear is a classic country Inn with rooms, nestled in the historic Shropshire countryside. Recently taken over in January 2013 by Greg Williams and Alyn Jones, both current and previous winners of the Good Pub Guide's 'Dining Pub of the Year'. Our aim is to offer an unbeatable combination of amazing home-made fresh food, cracking hand-pulled cask ales, wine that compliments the dishes perfectly and exceptional, friendly service. As well as being a traditional pub boasting 4 well-chosen cask ales, we serve exceptional food with a seasonal menu that sources all its produce locally and everything is home-made.The building is renowned for its many enchanting secrets such as the former Bear Pit located under Wilfred's retreat in the pub, and has many secret passageways leading to the village and Hodnet Hall. There is also 7 newly re-furbished bedrooms, 2 annexes next door and a strikingly grand 16th century hall located on the 2nd floor, suitable for any occasion. ... more   less
