Interlaken is an international holiday resort famous for its glamour and social character. The Central Continental Hotel, located in a unique setting on the bank of the Aare River, a mere hundred yards from the Interlaken-West train station and the boat landing station, is also very elegant and of a high standard, and is situated within easy reach of all neighbouring mountain track and cable railways.

Perfectly central lovely hotel. 1950's style. Nice room at an attractive rate with a good breakfast and parking under the hotel. Room has a nice old feel to it. What should be updated has been without affecting the older ambience of the room. Nice little balcony. Right by and overlooking the water. Importantly, the sleep quality was great. recommend this hotel.

The hotel was clean and the room wide with nice view. Location is good because it's only two minutes from the station. The staff is friendly. Breakfast was included, wide choice of food and the staff always refills the buffet.

Do not be cheated by the pictures of the hotel. It is not true. One of the most dirtiest, old, smelly, disgusting hotels I have seen. I was shocked coming to the room with fallen paint on the walls, broken doors on the wardrobes and dirty smelly bed linens and towels. I had to complain and got another room which is the same. When I did show the photos from the reservation, receptionist with angry tone told me that they have only one room like that and it is taken on 5th floor. It is a lie. Elevator do not go to the 5th floor!!! Parking is very small, had to park on the street. Breakfast is disgusting.

I chose this hotel for it's proximity to the railway station, the view and, more importantly, the pictures of the hotel which made it appear to be a lovely old building containing a grand hotel. How wrong can a person be ?! Yes, it is an old building but unfortunately it is now far from lovely and no, it does NOT contain a grand hotel! The poor building is so very neglected and un-cared for; the exterior needs a total refurb as does the whole of the inside. The reception staff are curt and unhelpful to the point of being rude; the breakfast is hardly worth getting up for there being virtually no fresh fruit, no real meat and no real cheese; the bread was processed and not good. The rooms are so old fashioned and uncomfortable; the hair drier was rubbish; the towels like having a rub down with a piece of sand paper; we had a kettle but no cups, no tea, no coffee, no nothing! The corridors upstairs were cluttered with spare cots, mattresses, furniture, vacuum cleaners, linen, laundry; a bit like a car boot sale I suppose - full of stuff nobody wants! Two good points; stunning view and minutes from the railway station. That's it! Plenty of other accommodation in the area so take my advice and don't stay in the Central Continental!

The Hotel Central Continental was disgusting. About the only nice thing to say is that it has a grand old look from the outside and is in stunning surroundings, BUT... the hotel was flat out disgusting. I do not use that word lightly. The main entrance has approximately 10 steps, which can be a challenge for those transporting heavy luggage. The hallways were strewn with spare mattresses, sheets and shopping carts taken from local stores (see picture). The room had old furniture, like that from a garage sale. The restroom was clean but dark and the TV had a good selection of channels. The hotel still uses physical keys with heavy keychains, not fun to carry if you’re walking around town. It also means if you want to leave the room, the other person has no way to lock the door. The hallway lights use motion sensors, if you’re at the end of the hall, you might have to stumble by the aforementioned clutter before a light comes on (the picture only has light because of my camera flash). Breakfast was crowded, and it took a while for items to be replenished. What really got me was seeing spoiled pineapple in the fridge (see picture). I’ve never seen pineapple that rotten before. Being on an island in the middle of a river, there were stunning views on both sides but this does not make up for the terrible conditions.
