THE GPS with an entry for Truro could not find it
We had dinner in another town and phoned for location
We liked the clean large room and the friendliness of Ann and Larry
It was raining so did not venture into the garden
The breakfast was copious - my husband enjoyed the "surprise" of Eggs Benedict, but my pancakes seemed tough {?}
I stayed in the Mississauga Room. I was disappointed in the room ambiance which seemed very dated. The walls were a powder blue and wall hangings brown and orange. The TV was the size and thickness of computer monitors in the 80s. There was a well thumbed copy of a 2006 magazine in the room and it just seemed like little effort had been made to update things in years.
Unfortunately the temperature adjustment for the room was in another guest suite so I had to ask my hosts to adjust the temperature for me. This was embarrassing because although they were very nice about it, it took 3 tries before I was comfortable and I felt very awkward having to disturb them each time rather than just adjust it myself.
These concerns may not be problems to others travellers but I wanted to share my experience.
Some folks, when told we were headed to Truro for 3 nights, questioned our choice of Truro. We wanted a base to walk and hike the Bay of Fundy area and Truro seemed to fit the bill and Trip Advisor Reviews made Tulips and Thistle look like a great spot for that. Five Islands and Economy Mountain provided some great hikes and another daytrip north to the Pictou/Caribou area was worth the drive and walks.
Ann and Larry welcome you with a request that guests make themselves at home -- and they really mean it. The house is most charming, the breakfasts wonderful, and the hospitality simply outstanding! Ann and Larry treat you like long lost friends. They do evertything at the B&B themselves and they do it sooo well. Immaculate rooms, comfy common areas and an overall warm feeling await travellers
Larry is a native of the area and can lead you to hidden gems for walks/hikes or just sightseeing.
Located 45 minutes from Halifax Airport, it's a great jumping off point to Prince Edward Island or Cape Breton as some of the guests were doing. But we enjoyed it where it was and for what it was, simply as fine a B&B as you can hope to visit!
We will be back!
Now.. this is how a B&B/inn should be run. Even though this is her home.. you are welcomed into it fully with no pretentiousness and no "take off your shoes" attitude.
Ann is there to greet you and welcome you to her home... the common areas were wonderfully decorated and encouraged you to sit and relax. Ann offered suggestions on where to eat only after you reviewed the stack of menus and narrowed down your choices (so as not to direct you without your input!). Our dinner choice was wonderful and we were so happy.
Breakfast is at a communal table and is a great way to meet the other travellers.. we had a long journey ahead of us and had to get up early so we ate alone.. but what a wondeful meal. Eggs, fruit, toaste.. etc all made fresh.
Upon leaving, ann offered suggestions on where to eat and what to see along our next leg of the trip... and wished us well on our way.
It was like night and day from our last experiance and the cost was much much less too..
Do not hesitate to stay at this wonderful place... we couln't have been happier and look forward to staying there again - and perhaps for a longer time!
Great breakfasts and wonderful nice people....E.S., Florida
