My husband and I have just had the most delicious meal at The Chequers Inn in Charney Bassett. Michael had the steak and he said it was the nicest he has ever had (he has had a lot). I had the Lamb, I have to say without exaggerating, it was superb, the veg was perfect and the taste was something...

We ate a very delicious Sunday lunch here today. Service was excellent and very attentive. Superb locally sourced beef and lots of lovely trimmings - including a highly calorific dish of cheesy leeks! The lemon posset was suitably lemony and the winterberry meringue was beautifully presented. Very reasonably priced for a pretty little village pub in the heart of rural...

Set in the heart of Charney Bassett village in Oxfordshire the pub has a welcoming feel about it; you don't feel as though you've got two heads when you walk in unlike some places where a deathly hush descends as you open the door. Good selection of wines and beers and the food is brilliant. Everything is cooked fresh: the...

We were traveling from Trowbridge to Aylesbury on a Sunday lunchtime and followed the 'brown sign' off the main road. When we arrived the pub was heaving, but far from being turned away we were welcomed and a table found. Service was excellent and the food (Sunday roasts), even better! The only downside was that I was so full I...

We went for my husbands birthday as heard good things about the food. When we got there we were welcomed by many and made to feel at home. Prices were a little more than we would normally pay for food admittedly but we could not fault one thing. My steak was absolutely beautiful and had the smoothest, tastiest peppercorn sauce...

Visited for an overnight stay last night. Fell in love with the place. Such a warm welcome from the owner. Shown room then straight back for dinner. Food was fantastic. Service was prompt and not in your face. Drinks always kept topped up. Decor is quaint and quirky which i loved. Right down to the low ceilings and numerous items...

The Chequers is one of a growing breed of village pubs where the food served is of a very high order. They have an extensive menu, and we have yet to find fault with any aspect. The greeting from Ian and Jacky is always warm, and the attention is always prompt.
