Everything about this hotel was fantastic, from the luxurious bath products in the bathroom to the private balconies with gorgeous views. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, the pool is beautiful and the views are breathtaking.
The Thaulle resort is a little paradise in the middle of nature. I don’t know how many hours I spent with just observing different kinds of birds and diverse animals that surround this beautiful little oasis in a beautifuly maintained garden. With the calming view of the lake you can lay back here, enjoy colourful sunsets and let everything have an effect on your soul and body. The staff is always helpful and friendly. They try to make every wish come true and offer professional help if needed – in addition, they are always available for a little chat or a smile. The rooms are tastefully furnished and cozy and the view of the lake is guaranteed from every room. The bathroom is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I had the privilege to spend one whole month at Thaulle and enjoy an ayurvedic panchakarma cure. From the first day on I knew I was in good hands with the authentic Dr. Upul as well as with the very professional and lovely masseuses and stuff from the Ayurvedic center. We were spoiled with fantastic Ayurvedic cuisine and could on top of that also learn some of the secret recipes from the talented chef himself. Besides all that I got the opportunity to book some little trips close to Tissa, like a drive to the Yala or the Bundala National Park, or a visit to a Temple or Spice Factory and more. With a 15-minute ride on a Tuktuk you reach the Kirinda Beach and get the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing time at the ocean including a private pool in absolute peace. Even if Sri Lanka is going through a very hard and challenging time I couldn’t really feel that as it had no effect on the quality of my stay. The whole stuff handled it all very professionally. I am highly impressed by that! But what made this place very special to me was the family atmosphere I got with every day longer I stayed there. All these very kindhearted people who work at Thaulle (such as the receptionist, waiters, yoga teacher, cook and kitchen stuff, masseuses, housekeeping, gardeners and all the others.) Dear Thaulle you grew on me like a little family and when I had to finally say goodbye I was a bit broken hearted. Overall, I warmly recommend this Hotel for everyone looking for rest, relaxation and a place to be in good hands. Sooner or later I will come back I am sure of that. It was an absolute blast. All the best and see you soon!…
Nice location for travelers looking for calm and relaxation / great ayurveda experience / amazing yoga teacher (thanks Don!). Great Cook! Super service (thanks all!). Top reception (thanks Shawn!) - we are traveling a lot and we usually have high standards, but the Thaule team did so well that we will most probably come back! keep the great work all & thanks again
On our tour of Sri Lanka we only stayed one night unfortunately so didn't have the time to experience all it had to offer. A beautiful hotel with stunning decoration and we were very lucky to be upgraded to a junior suite 😊 A very large room and balcony, which was gorgeous with a very comfortable bed, beautiful furniture and an amazing, luxurious bathroom (I loved the tiles) 🙂 Dinner was on the lawn and we opted for Sri lankan rice and curry which was lovely but best of all was the two ice creams, turmeric (unusual but delicious) and coconut. Waking early the next morning we were fortunate to enjoy the fisherman out on the Lagoon using their traditional methods to entice the fish into the nets and of course the variety of birds and buffaloes. The pool looked very enticing and clean and the gardens were beautifully kept. The manager (Shaun) was very attentive and I have to say, we enjoyed your company.…
Wonderful resort, overlooking a fabulous lake full of water birds. If you like birds just get a guide to take you around the Tissa lakes. Good base for Bundala and Yala too. Large comfortable rooms with the most beautiful shower room I have seen. Friendly and professional staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is lovely, a lot of fruit and veg is organic straight from the hotel garden. If there’s nothing for you on the menu, the chef will make it. Great drinks menu and excellent coffee. It’s already a five star for me but the environmental factors, the commitment to reducing plastic(glass used for water jars for shower stuff), clearing the lake of rubbish makes it easily the best hotel in Sri Lanka.
We communicated with the manager Sean before booking and we were able to clarify many things with him, including his making a booking for our Yala Safari. When we arrived, our room was upgraded and we had a bigger room with nice lake view. The place is full of antiques and very tastefully decorated, yet the bathroom is completely modern and functional. The room has a nice table and chairs both in the room and on the balcony. Aircon and ceiling fan both worked perfectly. The place is so quiet and you can watch the scenery for hours. During the hot day, you can use the pool. They also have new pool built outside down the road a bit , but we were too relaxed already to take a tuk tuk there. The pool in the hotel is good enough to cool off in. Breakfast and lunch are served on the second floor restaurant and dinner is served in the garden. The restaurant staff is very kind and responded all of our requests perfectly. The food is made to order, so it may take time. I highly recommend their Sri Lankan food. You can tell them what time you want to eat and select the food in advance, if you want to shorten the waiting time. (I find that preparation of food takes time in Sri Lanka in general.) If you leave early morning for the safari (5 am in our case), they will prepare food to take with you. We were not partaking in any of the Ayurvedic activities that they offer there, but If you have any questions or requests, just ask Sean. He is a great manager. In short, we very much enjoyed our time at the Thaulle Resort, and it is an ideal location from which to explore the Yala National Park and the nearby Bundalla Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary (which was even a more interesting wildlife-sighting experience than Yala for us, though both are worth doing).…
WE stayed here for two nights during our recent tour of Sri Lanka. The rooms were huge with an extended balcony to the side of our room, great for sitting and idling the time away. Very relaxed and calm atmosphere. Staff really friendly and helpful, covid precautions were obviously in place down to sanitised pens. Didn't have the time for any treatments but found the opportunity for a swim in the great pool. Traditional Sri Lanka food was cooked and presented really well, especially the egg hoppers for breakfast. However the "western" food not prepared so well, hence only 4* not 5*. A plate of coconut slices for a starter is rather bizarre, as was overdone thin chicken breasts with cocktail sauce. Stick to the traditional food and you will be delighted. Evening meal served outside in the grounds by the pool which was really nice…
It was my first Ayurveda trip together with a dear friend and an absolute hit. From the communication during the initiation to the end, everything was just right and exactly as described in their YouTube video which finally persuaded us to book the Thaulle Resort. Doctor Upul took care of us individually & competently and is literally available around the clock. He and his team of therapists do a great job and you don't just feel like a guest, but a friend.
The Thaulle Resort is absolutely recommendable, even without Ayurveda cure. But this is also highly recommended. We spent there two weeks The Thaulle offers a really excellent and always very friendly service. The meals are delicious in organic quality. The view from every room is beautiful. Numerous water birds, sea eagles, water buffalos and now and then a crocodile can be observed directly. Palm tree squirrels and other small animals run around in the garden and peacocks are everywhere. The Ayurveda treatments were also very good. We enjoyed the daily five treatments and after that enjoyed an hour on the deck chair in the garden with very good herbal teas.
What an amazing experience. I had been fortunate to travel a bit of the world- and here and there being able to stay in 5 stars hotels with great services. Thaulle ranks to the list of lifetime memories and are on eye level with highest expectations surmounted. From the reception, to the doctor, to the therapist, to the kitchen, splendid, amazingly well organizes and in communication with each other, the standard is five star worthy. The general manager is evening helping in the kitchen. All humble, kind, joyful. Around 70 treatments in 14 days is amazing. All were in the spirit of lightness, support. Not one time the intense work felt as a burden for each of one. Great consistency. Food and treatments are individual. Could rented bike be a bit newer, yes. Do you hear and there dogs barking? Yes. Sometimes someone cutting a tree. Yes. Sometimes a car passing by with a sound of music? Yes. If you hear all of that as part of the nature and environment, it does not bother at all. I 100% recommend Thaulle. A lifetime experience and joy. I will not spoil the surprises here. There are many. Thank you all Gerald…
